CHERYL HOLT dazzles readers once again with another tale of soaring romance and breathtaking drama as she delivers the second novel in her critically-acclaimed ‘Lord Trent’ trilogy.
Helen Stewart never understood why—as a tiny girl—she and her twin sister Harriet were sent away to boarding school and never allowed home for holidays. At age sixteen, they were shocked to discover that they are the illegitimate daughters of the notorious rogue, Charles Sinclair. Cast out by their relatives, they moved to London, and Helen has made a life for herself as a lady’s companion. In her line of employment, she must maintain a stellar reputation, but she’s exhausted by the fussy whims of the debutantes she’s forced to chaperone. She’d give anything to change her fate.
James Harcourt, Earl of Westwood, is in a bind. After his father died, he learned that his estates were bankrupt. He gambles to replenish his coffers so he’s living a dissolute bachelor’s life. When his female ward arrives unexpectedly for an extended visit, he must protect her from scandal by hiring a lady’s companion. When pretty, alluring Helen interviews for the position, he’s instantly smitten. She possesses the qualifications to fill a much more intimate role.
He shocks her by suggesting she become his mistress, and when his offer is rebuffed, he begins a cunning seduction, aimed at wearing her down. Helen can’t resist the temptation he offers, but she doesn’t have the sophistication to survive in his world. And as James immerses them in a dangerous spiral of pleasure and excitement, he proves that he is determined to have her at any cost…

Very good romance that involves twin sisters and two brothers. They each meet in different circumstances, knowing nothing about each other, but there's an instant connection.
Neither brother or sister has a clue that they are both falling in love. Great reading for all who love a good mystery and love story.
The two heroes were just awful. One of them leaves the heroine without a backward glance to go off with his fiancee that he lied about not having and the other one thought nothing about making the sister his mistress in exchange for the help she desperately needed but then he didn't provide it anyways. both heroes also recieve a TSTL award for believing the evil OW... even though one of them had been warned and knew that she hated the heroine!!
So what does it take these desperately TSTL women to forgive the many (in my opinion unforgiveable) transgressions from their worthless men? Marriage proposals!
And why didn't the solicitor even try to find the girls to tell them about their inheritance? surely if he was as good as everyone said then he would've seen through the uncle's plan to get his hands on their money.
*insert another outraged shriek here*

I couldn't finish this book. The heroes were complete jerks and the heroines silly and too ready to believe in anything the villains told them. The hero too, for that matter. There was no real romance and friendship and trust between the H/h. There were no real redemption after the heroes treated the heroines in a awful way. It was my first book from this author and she was recommended for the hot scenes and romance but it was terrible. Hot scenes complete bland and nothing of romance...
Better than the first book although still a bit predictable. Again I didn't mind that as the ride along with such great characters was quite amusing. The characters are great. Well worth a read if you like historical romance. I've now started the last book in the series.
Fun! It's far from deep, but it is entertaining to read. The betrayals, the miscommunications, the siblings, the scandals... It's a nice, light read with a bit of flair that leaves you smiling.
