Anna Devlin, a recently jilted bounty hunter is a modern woman from the twenty-first century. She is anxious for the hearing that will reinstate her law enforcement career, but an encounter with a strange Native American woman sends Anna back in time to the year 1870. Federal Marshal Wesley Shannon of Denton, Kansas, has no idea where this woman with the strange clothing and way of speaking came from. Since he fights his own inner demons, the last thing he needs is an attraction to a woman who has given him no clear idea who she is. But when danger arrives in the form of stagecoach hold ups where drivers and passengers are being killed, Anna torments Wes with plans to help him bring in the outlaws. Will Wes be able to keep Anna out of harm's way, or will his attraction to her distract him enough that they are both in danger?

Hi Romance Fans,

My historical romances are full of heat, humor, and quirky characters. I’ve always loved history, which was my college major. Things of the past fascinate me. Not those boring history classes in high school, but the history of people. How they lived their lives, what they ate, what they wore, the challenges they faced, what they worried about.

I have recently delved into Historical Cozy Mysteries. My very first one, For the Love of the Baron, a Historical Romantic Suspense novella, spurred me to try a full length, non-romance focused cozy mystery. A Study in Murder released last year from Crooked Lane Publishing, and the reviews have been excellent. The second book, The Sign of Death, released this year and the next book, The Mystery of Albert E. Finch will release in January of 2022.

I've also been busy keeping up with my Regency/Victorian romances. Check out my latest series, The Rose Room Rogues. Four brothers who own a gambling club and find themselves caught in the net of love.

Watch for my new Highlander series, The Sutherlands of Dornoch. The first book in that series, To Deceive a Highlander, will release March 30th.

Take a look around my website and check out some of the books I write, and their lovely covers. www.calliehutton.com

If you like time travel, the old west full of new ideas, humor and surprises with a growing romance you are going to love this book. I started reading it and couldn't put it down. The story takes you on a trip from this 2013 back in time to 1870 when the women sewed and took care of the home and children, not go out chasing bad guys, not defending herself by throwing a man twice her size upside down who was getting fresh with her. This woman, Anna, was very different for the 19th century and the Marshall just couldn't put his finger on why. His heart new why as everytime he saw her it jumped out of his chest. The story is a page turner and has humor and alot of excitement that makes you feel like you are right there watching all the turn of events. The last half will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I highly recommend this wonderful story of Anna and Wes and their unusual romance.

A Tumble Through Time engaged and captivated me from the opening scene.

I so wanted to clobber Anna’s fiance and roommate! I felt an almost instant connection to Anna, thanks to Ms. Hutton’s superb skill in writing Anna’s internal dialogue. More than once, I found myself grinning at Anna’s thoughts.

Both Anna and Wes were authentic, believable characters, and I fell in love with them. Their flaws made them all the more endearing, though there was a time or two I wanted to give them each a firm shake! The sexual tension between Anna and Wes is present from the moment they meet, and as it builds, their budding romance also takes some interesting turns.

Ms. Hutton skillfully weaves Anna’s awkward experiences as she adjusts to life a hundred plus years before she’s born. I chuckled out loud when Wes asked her what the tampon was and half expected him to ask her for her “headache pills” aka birth control pills, when he was sick with the flu.

For a non-domestic woman like Anna, survival in the old west was truly challenging, but she endured it with fortitude and an admirable attitude. To Wes’s credit, he didn’t lock her up for her scanty attire when he first meets her or, more importantly, after she reveals she’s from the future. For a man ingrained with the traditional roles of men and women of his time, Wes was rather forward thinking.

I liked Anna’s fiery independence and yet she is a very likable character; one I’d want as a friend. Wes is just scrumptious; strong, vulnerable, sexy, and he accepts Anna’s shortfalls with a perpetual grin.

The pacing of the story was good. The only place it slowed a bit for me was when Wes and Anna took off in pursuit of the stage robbers. There were a couple of places I had to reread a couple of times too because I was confused. For instance, the stage coach robbers are a father and three sons, yet at one point, mention is made of four sons. Still, that didn’t detract from the fun, sensuality, or intrigue of the story.

I giggled, cried, and cheered Wes and Anna on to their hard fought and well deserved happily ever after.

I received a copy of A Tumble Through Time for an honest review.

I’d put off reading this for a while as I didn’t like the cover (it made sense to me at the time!) but I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters of Anna and Wes. It just goes to show that I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover!

A Tumble Through Time is a wonderful frolic in the Wild West. When everything is going wrong for Anna, she suddenly finds herself in Kansas, 1870. A slow burning love for the town Marshal, Wes, develops and before you know it, it's love, but for how long?

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review, and I'm pretty certain Callie Hutton is going to be pretty pleased with it! But firstly, I must thank her for offering me this book to read as it was an absolute delight from start to finish.

Let's start with the plot, time travel meets romance, meets a bit of tragedy, meets a lovely ending. Hutton is spot on with her pace, plot development, writing style and story. It ambles at a lovely easy read pace, and has the feel of a book that you can easily slip in and out of, just like a pair of old jeans! But at times, the drama in the story picks up the pace and makes for irresistible reading. However, for me, the most important point to make is how familiar it feels when you return to the book after a short reading break (and believe me when I say short!) as it feels like you never put the book down. As someone who is frequently interrupted whilst reading, that's a really important thing for me.

Next, we have the characters. Anna and Wes are a delight to read, their love isn't cheesy or over the top, and the sex scenes are incredibly well written. The characters are believable and that makes it so easy to invest your emotions and time into reading about their lives, even if Anna is a bit of a 'modern woman', it's just lovely to see the contrast of times and upbringing completely demolished by their love for each other. In fact, if anything, it made me feel 'loved up' because I was bathed in their happy glow.

One of the final things I feel needs to be pointed out is how historically accurate the book is. This area of history is one of great interest to me, and I like my books to be accurate. Whether it's 'Indian Territory' or Kansas, it's clear how much effort has gone into researching this story, especially the accents. The dialects are fantastically well written, and it was easy to find yourself actually hearing the cowboys and little familiar ditties you've all heard in the classic Wild West movies, and it all adds to how believable the tale is, developing the atmosphere to such an extent you actually think you're there in Denton.

Finally, I suppose there's nothing else to say apart from go and get yourself a copy of this book. It's a delight from cover to cover, and I cannot honestly recommend it highly enough. If you like a bit of romance, a bit of action, a bit of time travel or even just something nice and easy to read sat by the poolside on your holiday then look no further. Callie Hutton is a fantastic and very talented author and I look forward to reading more of her work.

The last time I read a time travel book was in 1981. I was in fifth grade.

[………………]

Okay, it’s ten minutes later. During the long pause, I looked up that book from more than thirty years ago. It turns out the author of my childhood favorite and I share an alma mater. Cool. [Ok, digression over]

A Tumble Through Time starts with our heroine Anna Devlin working through some life issues, cheating fiancé, one job almost lost, another bad one taking its place, the death of her mother, and the impending death of an aunt.

Taking the advice of a Native American shopkeeper, Anna takes a walk to a field and there she tumbles through time to 1870. Five years after the civil war, our heroine finds herself in Kansas in her modern (and scandalous clothes) catching the eye of the federal marshal, Wesley Shannon, who takes her under his protective wing.

The marshal is attracted to the heroine, but is battling some demons. And these demons are bad. I wouldn’t want his past, nor would I wish it on anyone.

Although their attraction is clear, it takes compelling circumstances to bring them together. As you would expect in the late nineteenth century, they don’t just fall into bed and happily ever after.

I have read very few historical novels that take place during this time period. The author does a good job of keeping you set in time and place without dumping too much information on you. The country, is at a crossroads during this time. It’s right after the civil war, and at the cusp of the women’s rights movement.

There’s also a suspenseful subplot that kept me guessing. What’s going to happen to the good guys and bad guys isn’t so clear cut when lawlessness reigns. I had a hard time deciding whether the couple would have been happier then or now, but in the end, I believed in their happily ever after.

This book would be best for those who like time travel, western historical, tortured heroes, and marriages of convenience.

A Tumble Through Time by Callie Hutton is a mystical romp back into a small frontier town in 1870. The Heroine Anna Devlin, discovering her fiancé's infidelity on the eve of her wedding is unable to accept his treachery. She feels her life is a failure and without meaning. But through magical manipulation she is drawn from 2013 to the wild west and is instantly attracted to the chivalrous and very dashing Marshal Wes. Her eventual acceptance of the peculiar situation she finds herself in and the eternal passion she feels for Wes drives through the book. Beautifully written, the story makes you live alongside Anna and Wes and are cheering them on their way to their inevitable romance.

A family of miscreants blights their love but all is not simple in the lovely twist that brings A Tumble in Time to its passionate conclusion. Callie Hutton makes you believe in the Wild West and wish you were in Anna's shoes as she fall heads over heels with the handsome Wes. An excellent read which drives along with gusto.

R.T. Wolfe Review of Callie Hutton’s A Tumble Through Time

Callie Hutton has a special talent for plot building. She doesn’t disappoint all the way to the end of A Tumble Through Time. Wes is a tortured marshal in a rugged town of the 1870s. Anna is a feminist bounty hunter in current day times. When she is thrust back in time their paths meet like rhinos who can’t resist the underlying attraction they have for each other. Their love is addicting sweet as are the details of the different eras.

Action, adventure and passion. Callie Hutton really knows her stuff.

I was provided this manuscript for review purposes. No money exchanged hands.

Anna and Marshal Wesley are two souls that travel in time to heal one another. Sometimes the past and the present have to give a little in order to love. In the present, Anna turns to bounty hunting and when she finds herself in the 1800's, the past is not ready for a modern woman, nor is Anna quite ready for Marshal Wesley to want to treat her like a lady and love her like she deserves. Both Anna and the Marshal learn to let go of the past and the present in many ways. Callie does not skimp on pulling you into both worlds, falling in love and how far a man is willing to go after the woman he loves.

I love a good time travel and this one fits the bill. A Tumble Through Time hooks the reader from the first page and never lets you go. Anna and Wes are great characters. I loved Anna's courageous nature, even when she is faced with the unknown. And being thrown back in time sure is an unknown. Wes is a sexy, rugged, hunky hero. A great read for a hot summers day. Kudos to Callie Hutton for another awesome book!

Back in time????

Anne didn't understand what happened to her when she got off the stage in a strange town. When Wes sees her in men's trousers and a yellow crop top he doesn't know what to think so he bundles her into his shirt to cover her. A very well written story about time travel. I enjoyed it very much.

This has been surprisingly good! I was becoming tired of time travel romances where the protagonist travelled back in time to the Victorian era. For me, the old west is so much more interesting and packed with action. A must read!

A Tumble Through Time is the first book that I have read by Callie Hutton. Since this is a Time Travel Western, most of the book is spent in the past, the 1870's Kansas to be exact. I don't want to give too many spoilers, but be assured that this book is also a romance, so don't forget there will be a HEA.

The story starts off with Callie Hutton in present day Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is currently staying with her best friend until her wedding to Robbie. Just a few days before the wedding, Callie comes home unexpectedly and finds her fiance and best friend together on the couch "naked as the day they were born." Robbie swears that this was a first time mistake; mainly due to stress and anxiety over the upcoming wedding. But Callie doesn't care and gathers the few things she has and leaves.

After hiding out in a hotel room for a week, Callie knows that she needs to get her self together. Since she is currently on leave of absence pending an investigation into her charges of sexual harassment against her partner, from her job as a police officer, Callie has been doing some bounty hunter work, putting her law enforcement skills to good use.

Callie goes down to Kansas to visit her Aunt Rose, who has dementia. Whenever Rose recognizes Callie, Rose asks for her sister. Callie is tasked with telling her that she died of breast cancer 2 years ago and then holding Rose while she breaks down. Each time is the first time all over again for Rose and Callie realizes that she isn't going to be able to keep doing this. As Callie is leaving the nursing home grounds, she realizes that she is now all alone in the world. So we have the perfect set up for time travel. Callie has no job, no place to live, and no attachments holding her back.

This was a good story, with of details that showed that the author did her homework to make sure that the old west was authentic. Watching Callie try to navigate a world ruled by men, in a time before Woman's Suffereage has really taken hold was a lot of fun to watch. If you enjoy fish out of water stories you will enjoy this book. I gave this book 3 stars on Goodreads.

The day before she is going to get married, Anna walks in and finds her fiancé and her best friend doing stuff they shouldn't be doing! Needless to say, the wedding is off. She comes across a Native American Indian store and sensing her inner turmoil, is directed to relax in the peace chair ... and wakes up in 1870 (in a pair of jeans and a halter top!).

Needless to say, she is quite surprised. When she realizes she can't go home, she tries to settle into life ... a life that is very different from what she's used to. Respectable women were expected to get married, have children, cook, sew, etc. As an ex-cop and bounty hunter, she asks for a job from Wes, the marshall, who, of course, says "no".

I like time travel books ... I think it's fun to see how someone from today deals with going back in time and not having our conveniences like computers, the Internet, cell phones, etc. With Anna, what she missed the most was her Keurig coffee maker!

This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it. I liked the writing style and found that it flow well and kept me wanting to read more. Because it was sent back in 1870, it is a Western with stagecoach robberies, gunfights, saloons, etc. I liked the contrast between 1870 and 2013 with the discussions between Wes and Anna when she would mention something from her time and he would kind of go "huh?". The language at times is for mature readers.

I liked the characters. Wes is struggling with things he'd witnessed in the war, which he felt made him a coward. Anna is a woman from 2013 trying to fit in in 1870. Not a big surprise that they get together and I thought it seemed like they genuinely cared about it other.

I was curious to see how the author would end it ... would Anna stay in the past or would Wes come to the future (you're going to have to see it to find out!)?

I would recommend this book if you are into time travel stories and/or romances.

It's been a long time since I read a time-travel romance and A Tumble Through Time by Callie Hutton did not disappoint. Modern-day bounty hunter, Anna, travels back in time to 1870 Kansas. Local Marshall, Wes, is dumbstruck by her clothing and strange speech. Feeling responsible for her, Wes offers her clothing and shelter, and is horrified when she whips the tar out of a local cowboy. Men are supposed to provide for and take care of women, not the other way around. But as these two butt heads on how man's role in society differs from a woman's, they are drawn to each, and not just physically. They are two souls truly meant to be together; a love meant to last eternally.

Ms. Hutton's writing is excellent. Short scenes not only move the plot, but beautifully orchestrate the chemistry between Wes and Anna. The passion they share sizzles with every touch, but it's the way their souls are connected that will keep you remembering their story long after you've finished reading. And with a black moment that literally had me cringing and thinking, WTH, the end is completely satisfying. Enjoy!

I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway.

I do want to say that this story is fine at being just what it is. It is an easy romance with likable characters. It is a fast, light read.

That being said the story had many things it could have explored more deeply but just brushed the surface. Women’s right (what was the editorial about exactly?), and PTSD (just a line about seeing a counselor) were mentioned. I don’t believe the bi-racial Native American / Irish man would have been hired as a marshal so easily and that topic was not touched at all. I think the story could have been much deeper.

So I am only giving it 2 stars.

3 1/2--4 stars. Quick, fun read. Not too spicy. I enjoyed the writing style--I thought it flowed well with smooth dialogue. I also found the plot easy to understand--sometimes time travel romances go over the top with details and descriptions that are difficult to follow. My only complaint, and it's totally my personal opinion, was I wished the heroine was a little more "kick butt"--it's just what I was in the mood for when I read she was a bounty hunter. She seemed to get into situations she couldn't get out of herself. Overall it was a good book with a sweet romance.

Loved It

Awesome story, Anne did better than I would have being transported back in time. I would have lost it. No running water, no microwave, no internet. I really enjoyed the story, how Anne found her true love in the 1800s . There were times I was laughing out loud at the different jobs Anne had and if I had to go back in time I hoped my hero would be like Wes. This story had humor, stagecoach robbers, some sexual harassment, rape, and true love that transcend time

I liked the premise of this book, however, there were some steamy scenes, and some language. I like the time travel idea. The characters were very lovable, but it seems all they were concerned about was getting into bed. Would have loved a little more relationship development.
