Anxiety is a common struggle that many Americans face. Sometimes the anxious feelings come on like an unexpected storm; it’s easy to feel afraid. Other times, the anxious thoughts linger.
5/5 A very solid and practical guide to facing fear biblically. I plan to use the strategies highlighted here, but most of all I understand that my hope is in Jesus Christ and His word is powerful. Recommended.
Solid Biblical guidance for dealing with anxiety. Helpful for counseling, but the book is short and simple enough to give to those who are currently struggling. Gives hope and encouragement and is God-centered.
My one critique is that it often puts the verse references in endnotes rather than in the text. I despise when books do this. It does not destroy the flow of writing to put a "(Rom 3:23)" in the text, and it is exceedingly annoying to have to look at the end of a book to see what scripture the author is quoting. But I'll get off my soap box....
"Thinking about anxiety as a choice grants you the freedom to overcome it. You are not a victim of your anxious thoughts. No matter how habitual they have become, they are choices that you make." (Page 18)
"God wants to offer us more than simple relief from anxiety. He wants to increase our faith." (Page 36)
"Walking in the Spirit means that when I look at my past, I don't see my failure alone. My past failures are set in the new context of having been redeemed. This new context allows me to learn from my failures without being debilitated by them." (Page 54)
