Billionaire Series #3

Not In The Proposal

Rate this book
Where there’s a will, there’s a way out of the friend zone in this steamy, marriage of convenience romance.

When Immigration revokes 31-year-old Mia’s work visa, the life she’s built in the US to support her family in Brazil hangs in the balance. The last thing she wants is to go home and face the past she’s tried so hard to bury. But deportation looms ever closer, and she’s out of options.

46-year-old Reid can’t function without her superstar executive assistant and friend so she does everything in her power to find a loophole in the visa process. When that fails, she suggests a marriage of convenience. That way, Mia can stay in America and Reid can get her matchmaking mother off her back.

But a business trip to Brazil and a few not-so-professional moments could change everything. Maybe their marriage of convenience might grow into something more if only they looked.

I really enjoyed this one! It had all my favorite tropes—friends to lovers, fake romance, age gap and the classic touch her and die—and it delivered them so well.

Mia and Reid were such wonderful main characters, and Reid completely stole my heart with her fierce protectiveness over Mia. Their chemistry leapt off the page!

There were a few minor grammar errors and rogue capital letters, but they didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment. If you love these tropes as much as I do, this one’s a must-read!

I’m always looking for a sapphic marriage of convenience books but unfortunately this book didn’t give me what i wanted

Sure I liked both Reid and Mia very much and they’re great together but i still felt like there’s something missing

Also, who the fuck write the word vagina in a sex scenes? I noticed this in the previous book i read by the author and i was hoping it would improve but yet again she keep writing this word??? It isn’t SEXY AT ALL!!! Like seriously I flinched Everytime i read it and I felt like i was reading medical shit 😭😭😭

Here’s an example from the bonus epilogue

“God, you taste so good, baby,” she moaned against my vagina,”

KILL ME NOW PLEASE 😭😭😭😭

This series has taken me by surprise. I look forward to reading each book that comes out. This is probably my favorite of the 3 books released so far. You don't have to read these in order, but I recommend that you do.

3.5 rounded up. as a brazilian girl from rio, i was THRILLED to start this and i gotta say i absolutely LOVED it until the ending lol. i did feel like the marriage was kinda pointless if she’s gonna move back? and idk i just don’t like the fact that she moved back at all tbh. anyway a lot of things felt a little off but i liked it i guess

4.5⭐

Chloe Peterso following her group of friends stories, with the same storyline and just what you expect: a easy lesfic, not that much NSFW, just a slow and steady book. I love this kinds of books, an easy comfort without the big plottwist and crazy problems.
It is my least favorite of the series. It was a bit too easy. Stuff just.. solve itself. It could have a bit more of a complexity to solve problems.
But hey, wanna a easy and nice book? Go for it. If complexity and "with emotion" is your taste; don't.

Not as good at the others

I wanted to like this, I really enjoyed the first two books in the series and I was enjoying this one too but that ending... It just really ruined the whole thing for me.

I liked this novel, I enjoyed reading it, it had some great moments and elements, but it also had some bits I didn’t like. I think it’s a solid 4-star (“B-grade”) novel (which IS a compliment!). There were some very impactful and emotional moments, which I think was the strongest feature of this novel. The protagonists were great together, very supportive, had wonderful chemistry, and I enjoyed reading about them.

My complaints about this novel are mild, and mostly just that it didn’t use its full potential, that it was confusing at parts, or that I didn’t understand some choices. The marriage of convenience wasn’t remotely used to its full potential (and it was the main point of the novel!) as there was barely any playing with the trope. Big missed opportunity. A bunch of the conflict/plot of the novel revolved around misunderstandings between the protagonists, which is always lame and makes for a weak plot. I absolutely didn’t understand the point of the Ex-wife and most of the sections with Reid’s mom, as this took up a lot of pages and never really went anywhere.

This is book 3 in a series, which I did NOT know when I started reading it as somehow it didn’t indicate that anywhere. I am wondering if some of the things I didn’t get could be explained by the fact that I haven’t read the other two. I know that there were a lot of characters that showed up without any introduction or explanation and I was left confused, but it turns out they were to protagonists from the previous novels. I don’t think this stands alone very well, and likely it would be better if you read the other novels first.

As an aside, I don’t really like billionaires. So that was working against this novel, but I suppose that’s my fault. Multiple problems in this novel were solved because the protagonist was rich, and being rich solves all of your problems after all. But only your problems, and not anyone that you don’t personally care about (you don’t get/stay rich by using your money to help others!). The ending, where right as they get together they decide to go long-distance because being rich billionaires who run their own companies is more important than spending time together (even though they would still be billionaires, just less so?), was a little “eh” for me.

2.5 This book feels like it’s written all over the place. The pacing is really bad. Like was genuinely confused because it kept jumping from point to a completely different one. We start off and we don’t know anything about Mia. She’s getting deported… why should I care? I literally just met her. Like I’m supposed to feel terrible for her, but I don’t because I just opened the book. It felt like I opened the book mid way instead of the first page. The spice was also not clear/confusing. Felt as if the author was going off of vibes and not something I could actually picture to be humanly possible. And don’t get me started on the ending… wdym 2 different countries? And the thing is, I think a simple epilogue a few years later would’ve solved that. Like Mia’s got the experience she needs and comes back, Reid makes her partner and they live hea. Is that so hard to write? I would say to sit in moments more. Allow the reader to grow to care about the characters in the book. Like Mia meets the ex (I forget her name) and Reid’s mom and it’s over in 3 seconds. What was the point of that? That should’ve been 3 chapters at the very least. There’s no pay off to reading this part. The ex doesn’t come back and neither does the mom for the rest of the book. Why was there such a build up to that? Reid’s mom also never found out who she cheated with. Reid meeting Mia’s family also didn’t last long at all. I was expecting a bonding moment or something, anything, but it left as quick as it came. Also why did they even get married if she was just gonna give Mia a company? The whole plot of the book is a marriage of convenience, if she just ends up back in Brazil, there is no point to the original plot and them falling in love is happenstance. Everything is made out to be a HUGE deal, but then nothing comes of it or it’s then made out to be not a big deal at all. Anyways might read the first 2, I heard they were better, and my god I hope they are. And don’t get me wrong, I liked the plot and the characters, it was just a hard read. Like it was literally hard to read.

When faking it with your boss saves you from deportation…

After working in America for six years, Mia Caetano is facing deportation back to Brazil because of a processing error. As much as she has missed her mother and sister, she has worked hard to build up her life in America to support her family, and leaving is the last thing she wants to do. When she hands in her notice to her boss Reid Voss, CEO of DawnStar Studios, Reid tries to do everything she can to keep Mia in the country. But there’s only one loophole that has a surefire chance of working - getting married. It’s a plan that won’t just help Mia stay, but will hopefully get Reid’s mother to stop trying to get her back together with her ex-wife. The pair are essentially work wives, so it’s not a massive step for them to pretend to be married in order for Mia to get her green card. But when they head to Brazil for a business trip, their long-held mutual attraction for one another starts to bubble to the surface.

Seriously cannot get enough of the fake relationship trope! Throw in an age-gap, the workplace and a bit of slow burn, and you’ve got yourself a must-read! And Chloe has once again served up a must-read with Reid and Mia, with so much chemistry and heart. Their connection is instant and you can feel their six-year history oozing off the page, and they easily progressed into something more than just being work wives.

I don’t want to play favourites but I think Reid and Mia are my favourite couple of the series, so far. The added layer of Mia’s past threatening to destroy everything once they arrived in Brazil added so much more depth to their relationship and the story.

Compared to the previous two books, this one had much better pacing and allowed the story to flow much more easily. While there were times that still would have benefited from more exposition and build-up, it wasn’t as clunky or disjointed like Not On The Resume and Not On The Agenda. Chloe has definitely started to find her rhythm with this overall story and characters, and I can’t wait to see this continue with Alex and Taylor’s books.

For a book about a marriage of convenience in order to fool immigration into letting Mia stay in the country, there is actually very little to do with the Visa process. I might have almost zero knowledge of said Visa process, but I am pretty sure there is more than just signing a marriage certificate and signing some immigration paperwork before jetting off overseas for an undetermined amount of time. On top of that, I do wish the ending hadn’t been so abrupt. The characters had been through so much and hadn’t really figured everything out by the final page. And while there is a bonus epilogue, even that doesn’t conclude their story enough for me to be satisfied.

For my fellow age-gap and workplace romance girlies, this is definitely one to add to the TBR, especially if you’re looking to read more sapphic romances to read.

I can count the books I started and did not finish on one hand. This isn't one of them. But in hindsight it should have been. When I was finaly done and started writing a review I realised this book was even worse than I thought.

I can't believe this has an average rating of 4 stars. But I discovered that this often happens with a series. The readers who didn't like the first book(s) don't even start on a follow up in a series. And those who did like it obviously do hence the high ratings.

It felt like I didn't understand what was happening a lot. Especially the 2nd half cost me a lot of effort to get through. There are quite a few things that don't make sense, aren't logical or are just plain weird. Like Reid who suddenly seems to speak Portuguese when she didn't understand it before. This surprises Mia who apparently was not aware of this. Reid says she learned it for their business in Brazil, but doing business there was only decided a few weeks before. And later it is mentioned that Reid learned Portuguese from Mia 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I find things like that very disturbing, because I then start to doubt whether I have understood it correctly. Then I have the tendency to go back and search for the facts and then I completely lose track of the story.

A few things about the fake marriage seemed off as well. Like: Why be secretative about it to almost everyone but your mother if you're trying to convince people that it's real? How to keep up appearances while sleeping in separate bedrooms when your mother is staying over? Why moving in to convince authorities and later on move to another continent?

This and some other odd storylines I didn't really get. Because why all of a sudden wanting to expend business to Brazil? That was absolutely not clear to me.

I also didn't like the pacing. I missed some built up because things kept coming out of the blue. Some even irrelevant for the story.

The whole story was a bit superficial, simple and tame. Certainly not steamy as was mentioned in the subtitle of my ebook.

When I was about half way through I got bored and started longing for it to end. The flow I like to get in while reading a book was nowhere to be found. I considered quitting several times, but my own rule is to not do that when I invested my time in reading over half if the book.

The ending was horrible. It was presented as a kind of happy ending, but I didn't think it was that happy at all. I was still hesitating to give 2.5 stars, but after this ending it really doesn't deserve more than 2.

Wow so much to say. Bad news first:

The plot of this book took a sharp and kinda dark 180 turn in the middle. I started it just expecting your average cute romance with some fake dating, then all of a sudden they go to Brazil and Mia's former pimp threatens her and her family? Yeah that's right her FORMER PIMP, because it's revealed she used to be a prostitute. Which hey, sex work is completely valid and I send all my love to sexworkers, but Mia's experience with sex work is extremely traumatizing because of her abusive employer and it's just such a dark backstory for a character of a book that was marketed as a lighthearted marrige of convince romance. Not to mention, Mia is a Latina (Brazilian) woman and WOC, especially immigrants like Mia, have a long history of being represented as prostitutes in media and it just felt so stereotypical to me. But I'm not a Brazilian woman, so maybe this isn't as in in poor taste as I think, but it left a sour taste in my mouth as a WOC. Also the marrige of convenience aspect is only really prominent for the first half of the book, and even then it's barely explored enough. It just feels like the author wrote the second half of the book first as a full story then added the first half, with minor edits to the other half, for who knows what reason?

Okay now to the good stuff, this is gonna be short:
I liked Mia's and Reid's chemistry. I love how protective Reid is of Mia and how it's clear from the beginning how much she loves and cares about her...and thats it.

Overall, the plot was so messy, even the well written chemistry couldn't fix the book for me.

This was not what I expected but it was still fun to read.
I thought it would be focused on the marriage itself, and the problems one would have getting married to stay in the country, but this is not the focus *at all*.

There are some minor things that bothered me to no end, like some inconsistencies, for example, in the beginning, Reid says that Mia loves her caffeine, only to offer tea to her in Brazil, saying she doesn't like coffee. I know it is small details but I got bothered by this because I know a simple revision would have prevented this from happening.

I also got *really* bothered by the stereotype of Brazil, being Brazilian myself. This thing of you being poor and needing to go to the U.S. to help your family, I know it happens, but I find it cliché. Not to mention that later on you discover she was a sex worker, and although I have no problem whatsoever, it hurts a bit to think about another stereotype of Brazilian women (whore, prostitute).

But enough about clichés, what really killed me is how after they *finally* get together (they couldn't be more obnoxious about it), they decide to have a long-distance relationship? I wanted to kill myself because I knew how this wouldn't work, especially so early in their relationship. Anyway, I'd rather read a lot more about how their friends reacted to them being finally together, or them getting in trouble for getting married for the wrong reasons (surely someone would investigate them and realize that NO ONE in their company knew they were even together?) than this whole 'Donnie' plot. And don't even get me started with the word VAGINA used A LOT during the spicy scenes. If there is anything more of a turn-off, I haven't encountered it so far.

Regardless, I had fun but was mildly annoyed as well, so three stars seem fitting.

Actual rating: 4.3

After the underwhelming performance of "Not on the resume (billionaire 1)", I had almost decided that was it for this series. But someone convinced me to try again, and wow, I pleasantly surprised. I zoomed through this book, each chapter was such a delight. and the communication. *chefs kiss* Magnificent.

I LOVED Alex's role and personality in this book, being Reid's best friend, her vibes matched mine and my bestie's vibes to a T and I loved her. She was an amazing side character, really the best friend everyone needs.
Mia and Reid are super cute together, I think they're so alike that they match well. Ending was kinda sad ngl.
Everyone knowing they're in love before they know is so funny, but also a pretty common trope.
Reid learning Portuguese for Mia is the cutest damn thing ever, cause learning a new language is HARD.
Thank god they did not have drunk sex. Also, love the trust reid has in mia. Sometimes it does feel like these billionaires have worked so hard to make money, and not let themselves be young adults, its sad to see.
Making bets about your friend's love life is such a billionaire thing to do lol.

One thing I noticed reading book 1, 3, 5 (haven't read book 2, 4)... Cam and hayden, Alex and reid... my baby taylor's being left out? Like who's her best friend?

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!

I absolutely hated the ending… I don’t care that she gave her a company and I don’t care that she wanted her to be happy… it was selfish and pissed me off!! This book could have been a 5 star read but the ending ruined it!!

She spent all that time building up the relationship and had them realizing their feeling only for them to go to different countries to TRY long distance. It would have been nice to see Reid stand up to her mother and her ex but no after her mom went back home that’s all we heard on her….

This could have been sooooo good!!

I’ll be reading the last few chapters of Alex’s book to make sure it’s not a repeat of this one. If it is there is no way I’ll be reading it.

I Love The Steamy Marriage Of Convenience Series!!

This was a really good storyline and Chloe Peterson’s writing kept it exciting and interesting. The chemistry between these two women was evident but not too much overboard. The appreciation that Reid had for her assistant Mia was evident in not only the work she performed but in the responsibilities she kept giving her. That made the story interesting and the type of business had a really cool vibe. The story takes its turns to where it needs to go but the characters that appear gave the story an edge I enjoyed. Saw a bonus on these two and I can’t wait to read it.

I was appalled that the one WOC who is also an immigrant, was reduced to a tragic and abusive backstory. The prior two partners to the billionaires, were not without their tragedy, but it was just regular run of the mill, I'm not a billionaire and money is difficult, and my mother is in the hospital. This was wildly out of left field, and incredibly racist.
Not to mention they had a fake marriage to keep the poor immigrant of color stateside and then, Billionaire, just leaves her new lover to run a sister company in Brazil? Absolute trash. If you can't write what you don't know. Don't. Don't even bother. I had no issues and enjoyed the first two books. Is this what the author thinks all immigrants go through? And we all need a rich white savior to save us from our wicked people and homeland?

A solid 3 ⭐️, just what I needed and I really enjoyed this sapphic fake-marriage-of-convenience read. Surprisingly deep and well explored, with a strong plot and easy to love characters. Inclusive in terms of featuring a lot of Brazilian and Lesbian characters.
Formatting is ugly but clear, and the writing is fair, though it does not have the most fluid and smooth plot.
Lots of basic errors and mistakes, it could use going through by an editor.

The book felt incohesive, the ending playing out as though it were from a different reality. In an alternate universe, The B-route first half is paired with our universe's A-route ending. Guess which of the marriage of convenience and the matchmaking mother mattered by the end.

I can't decide if this book is a Game of Thrones horse meme or two different sandwich-halves smashed together.

I liked the first half of this book, despite the extended reality suspension necessary for the green card marriage without actual INS follow-up. HOWEVER, the second half of this book completely undermines the established premise. I was shocked when the book ended, as I expected at least another 100 pages to establish the relationship's stability.

This author keeps getting better and better with each book! Loved the dynamic of Mia and Reid. The plot twist of Mia’s past when they went to Brazil had me shaking in my boots. I could feel the heaviness of Mia’s past life and how terrified she was but then once she revealed everything to Reid, Reid took it upon herself to make things better for Mia. And it was utterly adorable!

I enjoyed this book. As a fan of stories about marriage of convenience, I found Reid and Mia's chemistry to be particularly compelling, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about their journey. The ending caught me by surprise.

Interestingly, I wasn't aware that this was part of a series while reading it. I'm now looking forward to read the other books in the series.

4.5 stars. Loved the inclusion of persons of color. The conflict in this book was very well written. I loved this book much more than the fourth book in this series. The love confession was drastically better than the book after this. (I read the books out of order; 4th book then this book). Overall, immensely enjoyed this book.

A bit of a thriller romance

An exciting storyline with lovable characters and interesting settings. Intercultural romance develops out of a marriage of convenience. And escaping from the past proves almost impossible.
