Rate this book
It is 1966, and the times, they are a-changin’. Fifteen-year-old Stephen is on his way to a summer program in France when he meets two glamorous new friends of his older brother, Rob, who has been missing for 18 months. They persuade Stephen to travel to Istanbul with them, to find his brother. And what a world opens up to him: a world of beautiful girls, drug busts, fascinating cultures, fast-moving friendships, and betrayals. As he travels further into Asia, the nature of Stephen’s journey changes: The search for his brother is replaced by an inner exploration, in which he must confront his own past, and his own dark secret.

I've always wanted to just go on a journey to a place that is unknown to me. The fear of being in a different place/culture with no money and no where to be is my kind of nirvana. I wish i could experience that. I loved the mental thinking of this book because it made me think about my best friends, myself, and weird things thats happened to me. It really sucks to want someone that you can't have. Sometimes when you want something bad enough you start to think that you need it. It's hard to want someone you can't have. But I think it's even harder to be alone with no one to care for you, no one to talk to, and to be completely empty inside.

Me gustó bastante

I read this book years ago as a teenager and it inspired me to travel to Istanbul.
There is a nuance to this book that means it still sits on my shelf decades later. I am grateful for the adventures it took me on, both between its pages and in the real world.

Ik had gehoopt op meer Rimbaud, maar snap wel wat er bedoeld wordt. De jongen maakt eigenlijk hetzelfde mee. Toch niet mijn cup of tea.

I really enjoyed this book. Picked it up randomly while on holiday at a secluded beach shop. They have this one small bookcase, and I managed to find this gem in there! An absolute must read for someone with an open mind!
