Given the choice between her sister's wedding and witnessing the challenge for Alpha of the Salem pack, Maurin knows exactly where she'd rather be. Smack dead center in a pack of snarling werewolves wearing eau de filet mignon. Until Francesca takes off the morning of her wedding. Being her sister's keeper will not excuse her from her job as the Council Liaison. Torn between obligations to a family she's avoided for almost a decade and the Council of Others, Maurin has less than twenty-four hours to set things right.

I received Wolfsbane in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by Bewitching Book Tours. Maurin has been living temporarily above Cash for the last month as the wait for the alpha werewolf challenge rolled around. Her sister is due to be married in just a few short days which means she has to return to the home of her parents who have pretended that she doesn’t exist. Her sister is determined to have her at the wedding but after a disaster of luncheon getting to deal with the supernatural is better.
The day of the wedding her sister goes missing of course her mother blames her so Maurin is forced to drop everything jump in-between and find her missing sister who’s suddenly developed cold feet. After a trip to her house she learns the reason for her sister to flee. She needs to find her sister and fix her marriage before it’s to late. As well as get to the alpha challenge as witness for the council.
I like Maurin a lot she’s grown on me as the books progress and this one might just be my favorite. I like that she has a vampire boyfriend who is taking it slow after all as an immortal he has forever but he’s not in a rush. I like that we don’t have insta love just insta attraction. I also like that we had a chance to see more of Cash who saved her in the prior book.
Wolfsbane is the third installment in the Maurin Kincaide series that focus is mainly the local werewolf pack as well as a quick bridezilla sister. I really like the concept for Maurin we are learning more and more about her with each novel as well as the world she’s connected to. The author has created this unique little town of Salem which happens to have several different supernatural beings aside from the traditional witches one would expect. So far I’ve really enjoyed watching as Maurin has grown into her powers and finding her place among the other supernatural beings it just works. Wolfsbane has been my favorite so far but that could be in part that I like shifters. A truly captivating action packed novel that captures the imagination and hard to put down. Another beautifully done installment I can’t wait to see what happens in the next one.
This was some bs. The little action that happened was overshadowed w the cliffhanger ending. I don't mind a good cliffhanger but this one came out of nowhere. It seemed like there was more to the story.
I want to fully like this series but it always seems as if the author has no direction w the story. As if its just all thoughts written down and not fully fleshed out.
We finally get the alpha challenge but the sudden twist or insertion of Maurin's family is weird amd not even necessary. Then there are the changes in council which was definitely interesting but we were just given the appetizer amd no main course.
What upset me was we can tell something is wrong w Maurin but as soon as we get confirmation of this the book ends. This is not a book but a novella. BS!
I was so disappointed with this book. The first two books had stories that were so complete. There was an amazing story that could have been told about the Pack but instead they were swept aside. I wanted more of Cash's story and Roul's preparation for the challenge. Why Olwyn was so upset with Maurin. I expected more especially after how intense the Coven's story was.
After reading Witch Hunt, which was awesome, “Wolfsbane” was a disappointment. Certain things that happened in this book made my opinion of the main character, Maurin, drop significantly. I don’t want to give spoilers, in case you haven’t read “Wolfsbane” yet. I’ll just say that Maurin’s lack of emotional response made her seem like a flat character. Either that, or a total B word.
Another problem I had with “Wolfsbane” is that the first 30 or so pages of the story were boring. When a story is only 80 pages long, I don’t feel like it should take that long to get to the action. Once it hit that point, though, it took off. It was back to what I would expect from this author–fast-paced and action-packed. So, even though I didn’t like the beginning and cared less about her sister’s wedding because it seemed to have no bearing on the main story goal, I did like the rest of the book. I’m sure there are readers who would not agree with me about the beginning. It might be a matter of preferences. I like subplots. I just don’t like it when they take over and the main story goal gets put aside.
I am perplexed by the ending. I thought it was a cliffhanger, so I expected to see a mention of the problem in the next book. Since there was no mention of it, I’m hesitant to let this influence my rating. It could be that I just misunderstood. Either I missed something or the author just dropped that problem when starting the next book. I plan to go back to read the ending again. If I find that the problem was actually resolved, I will edit this review.
I know I started this review off on a negative note. I hope you don’t hold that against the author or the series. This is a really good series and the novella was well-written overall. I think it would have been much better as a novel, so the author could spend more time giving Maurin some realistic and expected emotional reactions. Plus, as a novel, there would have been more time to work the subplot about her sister’s wedding in gradually, rather than dumping most of it at the beginning.
As I said, don’t let this less-than-stellar review dissuade you from reading any of this series. I have read book four and it was great. The books in the series can be read as stand-alones, but I think readers would get more out of it by reading all of them, even this one. It wasn’t a bad book, it just wasn’t as good as the previous one, in my opinion.
It is finally time for the alpha challenge of the Salem wolfpack to take place, and lucky Maurin must present as a witness for the Council. Worse yet, Maurin also must face something she has been avoiding for the past decade–her family. Her sister, Francesca, is getting married, and much to Maurin’s dismay wants Maurin to be a part of the festivities.
With the alpha challenge approaching, Maurin must come to terms with the fact that she might actually care about Cash as a friend, and either he or Roul will not walk away from this fight. Then the day of Francesca’s wedding arrives and she is missing. It is up to Maurin to find her sister and still complete her duties as the Council Liaison, all within twenty-four hours. Is Maurin up to the challenge?
Wolfsbane, the third outing for Maurin Kincaide continues the development of Maurin as we get to see some of the family dynamic that shaped her. This is more of a novella than the first two Marin stories, but still manages to pack a lot of story and expand the Maurin Kincaide world. I have come to expect a few surprises from Rawlings and Wolfsbane is no different. I can also honestly say I am a little sad about a few of the developments in this novella.
This does feel like a set-up story. There are some bigger themes like meeting Maurin’s mother and sister, the developments within the pack, and the ever-changing power shifts in the Council that are addressed, but it is a mostly contained story meant to prep the reader for the next outing. If you are a fan of this series, Wolfsbane is a must-read. Pacing and character development continue to impress, and Rawlings deftly handles the growth of her world. All I can really say is bring on Blood Bath.
I did not see THAT coming. I did not see you killing people off like that, or making them go all psycho. *sigh*. Yes, I know, things are complicated. Maurin's mother is more psycho that the ragins hormones of a blood lust feeding frenzy of vampires. See, and she's stuck, but she loves her sister. And now, with that said, things are happening. There's some changes that happened here that cannot go back, ever. People died. Maurin must deal with that. And her sister, though things are very different, loves her. I told you there were things that couldn't be seen in Cash that no one else saw. I know, I like Aiden. I actually really like Aiden. But I am seriously rooting for Cash. After all of this, in book one, I didn't want this. I didn't want him to have "that". but I wanted him to have Maurin. But now, it's different. He got "that" but I don't think he'll get her. I think I am getting sad about this. LOL And on that note, things are getting even more serious. With daddy in the picture, things are getting even more complicated for Maurin, she has to be at the council's beck and call, Aiden is all over the place, oh and he's kinda hiding something from her, not sure what. And there's more back stabbing. Oh yeah. I love this series!!! I do wish it were longer. It was more of a novella than not, but I know that some things come in smaller packages or we have to wait much longer as fans. It was still a great story with a jaw dropping plot. 5 PAWS!
In this 3rd book of The Maurin Kincaide series Crash goes after Roul who is the alpha over the wolf pack. Maurine who has to witness the fight gets attacked and once again Crash comes to the rescue with wolfsbane. When Maurine as the liaison has to report back to the council what she witnessed. She gets attacked again by the Fae. However she goes all bad ass and whips some major butt. In the mean time her bf Aiden is sent to Iceland and comes back in time for Maurine's sisters wedding to find Crash with her. With that being said I won't give any more spoilers.
I really loved this book it was a short read and to be honest I didn't expect some of the things that happened. As always the author keeps you guessing with the many twist and turns she has up her sleeve. It also gives you a little background of what Maurine's family and mother was like. This is an awesome book to read and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. This author is wonderful story teller. Keep up the amazing job.
The Maurin Kincaide Series 1. The Morrigna 2. The Witch Hunt 3. WolfsBane 4. Blood Bath
The third installment go maurin's saga has her her divided between her sisters wedding, and a fight for alpha in the Salem werewolf pack .her sexy Scottish vampire has to leave for Iceland . Leaving her with the sexy sexy alpha werewolf Cash. Besides that she has to attend her step sisters wedding . That's where things become more then frustrating for our poor heroine . Step mommy makes Joan Crawford look happy . She doesn't understand maurin's powers and tries in her not so subtle ways not to touch anyone . Maurin knows where she wants to be and it isn't at the family house . The battle for alpha would be less complicated . Trying not to give any spoilers but this is a great book . I recommend ths book to be added to everyone's summer reading book along with her two other books . So check it out you won't be disappointed
Book 3 in the Maurin Kincaide Series by Rachel Rawlings - is a great little read. It's shorter then the first two books but still full of action. I highly recommend reading the series in order (understand that the first 3 books are coming in a set).
Well, Maurin is in trouble again, she has a job with the council and has to oversee an Alpha fight in the shifter world, and then she is dealing with the Step-Monster, while her sister is trying to get married. No wonder she left home and never looked back! This one is a bit gorey in spots but hey werewolves fighting each other equals a blood bath.
Again, Rachel's characters are strong and well developed and I look forward to reading what trouble follows Maurin next time. If you are in the market for a darkish, urban paranormal fantasy the series is worth it!
Maurin Kincaide has a knack for finding trouble, or is it that trouble is always close at hand around her new job.
Maurin is caught between a rock and a hard place, her sister's wedding and her job with the council, oh and don't forget that hunky werewolf that challenged Roul, Cash.
This is an action packed adventure that has so many twists and turns that it leaves the reader worn out because you won't want to put this book down. It is definitely a great weekend read, for those stormy afternoons when there's nothing left to do.
I honestly find myself wanting more of this cast of characters. I've been drawn into their paranormal family and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next
This series just gets better and better! Maurin is kick ass and I love it! Maurin has to oversee the fight for Alpha of Salem in this installment while also trying to juggle having to go back to her adopted mother’s house and attend wedding events for her sister. I have to say she handles it well LOL NOT! I adore Maurin’s spunk and ability to rise to any challenge and this book is not different. There are “complications” during the challenge for Alpha as well as when Maurin has to report the outcome to the Council. This story is action packed as we have come to expect and definitely keeps you on your toes!
There were tough decisions to be made by Maurin in this book. She has to decide to be with her sister at her wedding ,or to be true to her job that she needs to be available for. She is also dealing with her vampire going away and where that relationship stands. I felt there were to many stories in this story and I found myself wanting to know what happened, however I was also going back to see if I missed something. I was torn between wanted to love this book Maurin was a great main person, and not loving it. Therefore I gave it 3 stars. My opinion is not the opinion of others so please give it a try you may love it.
This third book in the series was only a short one but nonetheless as enjoyable as the first two. Really enjoyed getting an insight into her family life, which she understandably couldn't wait to escape - step-mother from hell! I've really liked the way Cash has developed over the series, from an annoying, arrogant sleazeball to a pretty likeable character who will do anything for Maurin - bring on book 4!
Only 80 pages and I paid 1.99 for it? This book had better be one of the top 5 books I've ever read. And there should be a discount for book 4 at the end. I don't mind paying for good books, either digital or print, but 2 bucks for an 80 page novella seems like price gouging, especially since the price for each subsequent book goes up.
As were the first two this book was great I just wish it were longer. Magic, werewolves, vampires, fae , witches and action makes for a great book. So hurry up and get started reading this series it won't disappoint enjoy.
I loved the first books but this one drops you off a cliff with a bang as an ending... I am disappointed, I did not realize I was buying a novella. Sigh
