Solo: A Journey of Love Across America

Rate this book
Since my solo bicycle ride across America in 1995, many folks have asked me, "Bert, when are you going to write your book?" I smile and tell them, "When the time is right." It seems like eons ago since I left. Dreaming about the adventure began long before that and often, as I ride to and from work, I see, hear, and feel things that make me relive that eventful journey. Now I know it is time. I'm not sure what prompted me to consider writing it now. I just felt a deep longing inside to share the greatest adventure of my life with others I invite you to come along with me and be my partner as I relive the day to day planning and finally, the actual pedal for pedal movement from Portland, Oregon, to the Pacific Coast, and then all the way across ten states to eventually step into the Atlantic. Without any further ado, let me share with you my journey. I affectionately entitled this serialized version of the SOLO - A Bicycle Ride Across America. I dedicate this book to my friend, lover, and wife, Cheryl, who lived with all my eccentricities all these years and nurtured my dreams.

Dream Accomplished

Considering a cross country ride myself I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamics of this ride. It gave me a better understanding of what I can expect and what I should do different. Overall it was a good read with minor editorial issues and some repetition of the authors personal feelings while conveying his experience to people he met along the way.

This was the first book I read from Bert Nemcik and it got me hooked. I have read numerous books about traveling across the U.S. and other countries by bicycle but none like this. His writng gets into such detail that you feel you are there beside him every mile through rain and sun. Unfortunetely his books are not available in print but they are a must have for any kindle reader. I also recommend his other books, especially See You Down The Trail his journey hiking the Appalachian Trail.
