I love badass Stiles as the human alpha who outsmarts the Alpha pack. (In this version the Alpha pack is like a lycan review board and is led by Kali, who's rather psychotic and was absolutely obsessed with Derek's dead sister, Laura.)



But I'm still moping over what I view as a lack of romance. Derek and Stiles are supposed to be in a "biromantic" relationship (though Derek is asexual and Stiles is hetero)--but it just doesn't feel too romantic to me. It feels like they're BFFs who cuddle. They love each other but I don't see any signs that they're actually in love. I mean, if it's biromantic then where the hell did the romance go? 'Cause it's not here.

Still there's BAMF!Stiles and pack feels and plotty plots to enjoy, so what the hell. I'll read the next one.

But the minute Stiles starts playing with Erica's tits I'm outta here.

This fic has me so messed up in the head. On the one hand, I LOVED it. I love when Stiles is a BAMF. I loved watching him outwit the head bitch of the Alpha pack. On the other hand, that one damned on page kiss about made me scream! I was ready to cut a bitch. She has no business kissing my Stiles. NONE. I know that this story is different. I KNOW that the relationship between Stiles and Derek is different. But the fact of the matter is, it bothered Derek just as much as it bothered me. That one kiss almost made me stop reading. If I get on page sex with her, I'm done. Hell, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to deal with the kissing and touching. grrrrr (in my best Derek growl impression)

I liked the badass Stiles and how he outsmarted the Alpha pack (Kali in particular) and the hunters targeting the Alpha pack. Very original ideas of what Laura and Derek were like after the fire (or going to boarding school), how they took care of each other, how the Alpha pack was created and what their purpose was (to test new Alphas rather than hunt for power and destroy packs), how the hunters worked. Also very original the way Stiles handled the trial, how he handled the hunters and Kali. That final battle when he took wolfsbane just to poison Kali (no matter that he almost killed himself) was riveting. There was plenty of action, great character development, inventive world and plot build.

Sadly, this is the last in the series that I'm reading. One major factor in my passion for Sterek fictions is the relationship, commitment, love, attraction between Derek and Stiles. And for me personally, Erica was kind of made to look a bit slutty and mean from the show and previous fictions. Basically, I really don't like her. And I can't stomach her and Stiles. So yup, stopping here because as great as this series is shaping up to be, having Erica thrown in the mix is a kill joy for me.

I've been listening to the podfics for this series. The narrator, Opalsong, does a nice job narrating. This is a series I've wanted to read for some time but the relationships between Derek/Stiles and Stiles/Erica always left me feeling confused and unsure. This series, which is L-O-N-G, has been perfect to listen to while spending HOURS in the kitchen working on my latest cookie creations.
