Tyrone Lewis is messing about in the woods, trying to keep out of trouble, when he stumbles upon something weird ...a glowing lump of rock or metal or something. Whatever it is, it gives him an amazing power. Which is cool at first, until Ty's new powers start attracting attention, and soon he's being followed by two sinister agents who seem intent on 'collecting' him. But Ty has no intention of letting that happen. So now he's got to RUN ...
It is an adventure book and it is the 1 and only book in the series I enjoyed the book as the author kept the momentum going it was a page turner and was exiting The clue about the big event for the end of the book was maybe given once too often, which makes it kind of easy to guess and some of the science and alien stuff feels a little flimsy. Other th an that it was a very interesting book. I think it is suitable for younger audiences as well as older ones.
This grew on me. I was on the point of giving up when the plot suddenly kicked in and I saw that it was going to be a great little book.
All the elements are there - geeky kid (Tyrone) being bullied, finds strange object that appears to give him special powers, special powers are cool (moving objects with his mind!), people in suits show up...
So it's a little bit of sci-fi, a chase story, there's a naturalist friend who helps Ty on the run, there's shady government-types following, and there's the fact that there are news stories that a few other people have also been able to move objects with their minds.
Fast-moving, Out of this World is a really good outdoorsy read, lots of eating and sleeping in the woods and running from The Man (or Woman). I thoroughly enjoyed the story and will be recommending to 9-13 year olds who are looking for something exciting in the library this summer.
This book was okay. I liked Ty and Sam and the storyline was good enough to keep you reading. I don't think it was as good as Itch even though it was a bit similar. A good children's read all the same.
A light easy read that reminds me of a cross between a chase story like the Fugitive and alien encounter like E.T. An interesting mix of characters as support cast. More suited for boys with a sense of action and adventure.
The book started of kind of boring, became very interesting when finding the other people with superpowers, but the ending was not detailed enough and a bit dull as it did not include the reactions of the people in the submarine. However, the plot tied in nicely with the characters and the story. I didn't realise that Ty was actually Tyrone (Gideon's mentor in the Shapeshifter series) until the end, but it was a very good idea.
Having bought a selection of Ali Sparkes books for my 10 year son thought I would give them a read too. Great little book aimed at pre-teens and early teens. Interesting characters and not just the main ones. The plot line is simple but keeps your attention. This is a stand alone book but ends with a possible second book in the future.
Love the epileptic twist as my eldest son has this condition and the author handled it with care and had clearly done their research. Looking forward to trying the next book.
Ugh at first I enjoyed this book but after a while it just became cliche, childish and unexplained. It's nearly like the book is written to become a movie. It's like a long script. I'm disappointed with the quality of this book and it comes nowhere near comparing to the popular teenage fiction books around at the moment. Sorry Ali Sparkles but better luck next time.
A young boy finds a mysterious stone which gives him an amazing power.
This book had a good basic storyline, with realistic characters and a satisfying twist at the end. The writing and plot were a bit simplistic but overall it was a satisfying read.
