The Rush Series #1

Rush of Innocence

Rate this book
Trinity Grace knows about control. She understands control. She’s lived with the tight reins of control wrapped around her so tight, she can barely breathe. When she finds out to what great lengths her father would go to retain that control, she flees to Vail, Colorado, to enjoy a girls' week-long party. She’s surprised to find Rush Drayton in Vail. A man, she only recently met… a man, who sends delicious shivers up her spine. What are the chances they could both leave Savannah and wind up in the same city?

Rush Drayton is an enigma to Trinity. His dashes between being super-sinfully sizzling to cold and distant leaves her confused and vulnerable. He continually says things that confuse and confound her.

Once the holiday is over, Trinity returns home to her normal life… however, there is nothing normal about the trouble that continuously seeks her out. As she struggles to thaw her father against his attempts to retain control over her, pain and suffering seem to follow. She turns to Rush in her times of extreme crisis, but is he really helping? Or the one behind all the suffering?

SO MUCH MORE THAN I EXPECTED..., June 15, 2013

This review is from: Rush of Innocence (Kindle Edition)
This had me in bated breath through out the entirety of the story. Just when I thought I know what's going to happen next, Wham! I'm blown away, the shocking surprise and events just doesn't stop from coming.

From the very start this book is wrought with tension and danger, Trinity Grace has no clue what secrets her father is hiding from her, who is intent in harming her father. Then she meets the enigmatic millionaire and sinfully handsome Rush Drayton who seemed to be showing up where she is, pursued and seduced her. Young and innocent, Trinity was fascinated and before long she gave in to her attraction and spent the night with him. That's when mysterious thing starts happening, someone sending her flowers with death threat card attached to it, her office being ransacked, I don't want to give any spoiler but a lot more sinister things that had me gripping in imagined terror.

With Rush Drayton being sweet and loving one moment, the next he's cold and rigid and aloof throws her off, Trinity is not even sure anymore that Rush has nothing to do with what is happening around her. With her controlling father constantly telling her that Rush is a man with bad reputation and couldn't be trusted, things got even more bizarre and her life is constantly in danger.

I couldn't put this book down, it's packed with mystery and treachery it is so thrilling. The romance and their love affair gets so consuming, the hot tub scenes is so hot and steamy. My only gripe is the ending seemed a little rushed, I felt like some of Rush's actions that caused Trinity's grief should have been explored some more. I think an epilogue would have rounded off the end better. The writing and the story is good, the price is definitely an added bonus.

Uggh. Where to begin? I really hate to give a bad review. If I can, I always try to round up to the higher star. I know authors work hard and I hate to be a "hater". Unforunately, I don't have much choice with this one.

The writing was not great. The story was not developed and was very repetitive. The main characters were both really annoying with their behavior. And while I love a damsel in distress story, this was way way over the top. The main character Trinity is burglarized (twice), knocked out (multiple occasions), faints (several times), hospitalized (at least twice), run over by a car, kidnapped, and shot. I totally am not kidding. All that happened in a book with only 192 pages. Trinity wasn't very bright either. Even though she obviously is in danger, she denies her father’s attempts to provider her security on several occasions. I now understand the phrase “heroines that were too stupid to live”. Rush, the hero, continues to pull Trinity in and push her away throughout the whole book. Then he tells her he can’t be with her but then keeps showing up. This wasn’t angsty, it was just awful. Sorry.

I always hate to not finish a book so instead chose to skim the last half. Unfortunately, it just didn’t get any better. Read at your own risk.

I am so emotionally frustrated with this book that I feel like this....

I seriously don't know how to best describe this book. So many crazy feelings I have and then I'm like just about to throw something at my PC. (Heads up my poor kindle is kaput...for how long who knows) :D

Okay I'm just going to have to start with Trinity. Sheesh, this girl I love and then hate one minute. Don't get me wrong I like her, the way she's written comes across as whiny, clingy doormat type but she's far from it. That's why I have all these angst up emotions. Trinity is someone that you wished wasn't like that but she's actually likable.

Now Rush Drayton, hmm is of course sexy, tall, yummy, washboard abs, richer than rich yada..yada..yada and BAM I want to slap him across the head. Yep, he was a bit of a dodgy and mysterious guy but my gosh can his character just want to make me really call him an asshole.

Well regardless Rush and Trinity really got my head spinning and I just wished that these two either end up or not....yeah I'm angst, happy then angst again and then I'm wishing that Trinity would just take some vitamins and say "TO HELL, with ya'all". So this book is really good but I so wanted to give this 4.5STARS but because of all this BS between Trinity and Rush that's why. Overall though the book is quite good and you won't be disappointed. It will leave you wondering and guessing at why Trinity and Rush can't find peace.

Trinity Grace is breaking free of her father's control once, especially after finding out how far he goes to retain control. She runs into Rush Drayton during a night out with the girls, and things take off with them from there.
Rush and Trinity become intimate and began a confusing relationship, where Rush seems to be close one minute and the next cold and distant.
Trinity rides on a roller coaster of emotions with the things that her father has done and also what Rush has done.
She is now pregnant with Rush's baby, and she doesn't know what to do, who trust and she is all alone. Until she runs into Rush again.
Rush pleads with Trinity to give them another chance to make a real go at their relationship. He loves her and doesn't want to lose her.

OMG what a emotional ride in this book. Her emotions were up one minute and then they quickly went down the next.
Rush of Innocence was a great book to read, I could hardly put it down. It was hot, sexy, emotional, happy, heartbreaking sad, violent, and had some romance in it during the happy times. I can't wait to read Rush of Redemption.

Ok, this is a story that took one too many turns. It was perfectly fine, H seeks girl for his own mysterious reasons, girl falls in love and gives up her V card, H makes unforgivable mistake yet girl forgives, he makes another-she forgives, and another- she forgives. Completely deserts her, not just once, while she's in hospital ( oh yeah she's pregnant too), yet she looooooves him so much! Really? By the last 20 pages I was gagging. Get a grip, get a life, and please get some dignity. While I'm not adverse to some fantasy in my fiction, I am adverse to stupid girls! The author tried to wring a little too much pathos out of this story and turned a sympathetic character into an idiot. And frankly, nothing very heroic from the Hero, ultimately. He walked like an Alpha, talked like an Alpha but ended up simply a poser.
I'm going to sign off and gag now.

I just couldn't deal with this heroine for another minute. Every day she was feeling weak and vulnerable and that's on top of almost being killed in pretty much every single scene in the book as well. If this heroine had a spine I would've been alright but that was not the case here.

She get's cut with broken glass during an attempt on her fathers life.
She walks in on a robbery (this happens two times and she is injured both times)
She is sent a threating picture
She gets beaten buy a group of bikers
She gets hit by a car
She faints while confronting H
Her car gets blown up
She gets kidnapped
She gets shot

H believes lies told by her father so he abandons her and goes out with a bunch of other women.
She forgives him. Just like that!

Aggravated by the end. You know her father lies, she jumps in front of a bullet for you and what do you do? You leave her, believe the lies and sleep around very publicly while she is going through a pregnancy alone watching you and these women in the papers. Well played asshole, not a HEA in my opinion but a tragedy. I was hoping she would end up with Alex the bodyguard.

I was all in for about 1/3 of the book and then this story got a little crazy!

Someone is out to get revenge on Trinity's father, Judge Grace. So how do you get revenge on someone who's hurt you, you go after what he loves most and that's his daughter, Trinity Grace!

Okay, so with that I was intrigued. Trinity works for an art dealer restoring art work and when the handsome, tall, rich Rush Drayton request specifically for her to restore a piece of art for him, she is blown away by this god of a man.

While on a trip with her girlfriends to Veil,CO Trinity runs into no other than Rush Drayton! One thing leads to another and the time that she spends with Rush is unforgettable, but is Rush using Trinity to get closer to her dad for revenge?

So at this point the story is still going strong and then boom!!!! Shit starts to hit the fan and take a turn to ridiculousness!

*********Spoiler alert, spoiler alert*********

So, first someone tries to kill Trinity's dad. Okay that seemed realistic since someone has it out for him. So naturally he wants to keep his daughter safe after his attack, but nooooooo Trinity doesn't want security tailing her because after finding out some information that proves how much her father has controlled her life, she refuses his security! She's an adult she has the right to refuse, right! Well not if you've been kidnaped twice in your life, attacked at work from a burglar, attacked by some biker dudes, has her home broken into and is attacked again by a second burglar, and ran over by a car! Really, I don't think mobster have had that many hits on them!!!! At this point I was just annoyed with Trinity still refusing security, it just got too ridiculous.

Then there's her relationship with Rush. He's hot, he's cold, he's says he'll protect her, but has done a piss poor job at it. Then he leaves her, but can't stay away from her! Then once he finds out how much of a liar Trinity's Dad is, he still takes his word on a decision Trinity didn't make and cuts all ties with her and doesn't check on her when she ends up the hospital! WTF!

So in closing, the sex was hot, the heroine was an idiot, her father was an ass, and the hero was full of shit. Once the story unfolds, their was a few unexpected revelations and shocking moments that would have made this story good if the author would have given us less craziness on all the damn attacks on Trinity.

It took me a bit to get into, but once I did I found it surprisingly compelling and engaging. I read a few reviews criticizing Trinity for being so gullible and naive. And she was, but I think in this particular story it worked well. There would have been no story if not for her innocence and ignorance. I had a bit more issue with Rush. He was a fairly weaker character than the book implied him to be. Not exactly sure what could have changed to create a stronger persona, it just seemed he constantly gave up too easily. And then again, where would the story be if he hadn't. Perhaps I was waiting for the super-hero to make the ultimate rescue and when he reacted more realistically, I created my own let down. The writing was above average, but could have been a tad more intense. And here again, I could have fabricated a needed level of drama that did indeed exist, just not in the tradition I am used to. The story was solid and well paced and I think did well with twists and turns in its mystery aspect. It was understatedly good. That is the best way I can think to describe my opinion of it. I know with certainty that I will be jumping to the 2nd in the series, so, over all I have to give this one a thumbs up.

Mystery, thriller, suspense... take your pick.

Trinity is 22 and an art restoration expert. She meets Rush when he brings in a painting for restoration. T is taken care of by her overbearing, overprotective father, who is a federal judge. She's still a virgin and can't figure out why none of the men she dates will see her after the second date... she thinks something's wrong with her. When T figures out that her father has been having her followed on her dates and then threatens them to break up with her, she rebels and flies with to be with her friends in Vail and coincidentally Rush is there. After a rocky start, they begin a relationship and then all the stuff happens: explosions, break-ins, assaults, shootings. And Trinity finds out that the people she wants to trust betray her and lie to her.

I don't get how she could possibly consider going back to Rush. There's an unfulfilling HEA, but there's a second book, so we'll see what happens.

Um yeah this was just okay. It really became ridiculous at times. How many close calls can one person have in a matter of weeks? Trinity was so freaking annoying. If you have so many close calls why would you repeatedly refuse protection. I understood she felt smothered by her father but come on already! Then there is Rush would was hot and cold and then just from her life. He had some pretty good excuses but honestly I don't know if I would have ever forgave him.

I enjoyed the book...granted I pushed myself through the begining.
Trinity was always in the wrong place at the wrong time which became really predictable. All in all after I got about half way I needed to continue because I had to know what happened next.

I was pleasantly surprised about how much I enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing; not really knowing who the villain really was until very close to the end of the book. There were plot twists and turns and a couple that kept me interested and intrigued. On to Book 2....

Great book. The only problem I had was him leaving her without confirmation about the baby. he knew the daddy would lie so why would you leave her without a word? and then with no problem she goes back to him???
but the book in general was donated. fast paced, lots of action..... Loved it.

Spell check .... It's Your Friend!

It's too easy to check the translation for the Spanish words used in this series ... For example, my daughter is Mi hija, not Mi hijo! Not the only Spanish errors but I have had it. This author is off my list. I stopped reading in the middle of the story!

I am not a writer; I never could be. I appreciate what those who can write put out for those like me to read. With that being said, I couldn’t get into this book. While the plot was a great plot and I feel like it could have been something at the top of its class, I had a few problems with it.

First, Trinity was in harms way every second of this book. She gets shot at, attacked (twice), mugged, hit by a car, kidnapped, shot and I want to say there is something else that happens but I can’t remember it. It was too much for me. I do love drama but there is a drama limit for me in a book. I also hated that she kept constantly forgiving Rush. He was horrible to her at some times and every time she confronted him about it, he would give her some oozy love saying and she would forgive him. I wanted her to stand up to him and really give it to him and that never happened. He would have been smacked, many times, if I were Trinity.

However, there were some hot parts.~BookWhisperer Reviewer MC~

Good premise, flat characters.

I really liked the premise of the book and I remember early in the book feeling hopeful about being able to latch onto some good meaty characters. Leading guy intentionally lures girl to fall for him, only to fall for her. I think there was an opportunity to lead the girl on further and create an emotionally invoking scenario. Rush was a good guy but needing to fulfill a dirty commitment to his family. I felt like if he had a chance to show his determined dirty side that he would have been more of a compelling bad boy character, but it never panned out. The Rush character came across flat. You never felt too bad for either Rush or Trinity through the author's writing. Although the author described how much of player Rush was, we never really saw it. (NOTE TO AUTHORS: We can't always feel for the characters through your descriptions, we need you to show us through their actions and interactions, meaning more dialogue and situations that expose their feelings of betrayal and heartbreak, and the torture of not being together.)

Not my cup of tea...

Not my cup of tea...

I'm always up for a good and sometimes twisted romance, but this one went too far me. The "would be" hero of the tale was a wimp in every conceivable application of the word. As a woman, I believe I can speak for others, in that as trite as it may sound, we want the swashbuckling, sweaty muscled, alpha male with the brassy orbs to go with the rest of the package... With that said do you really want me to go on a tirade about the heroine??? No..., I think not! As this is only one out of several books this author has written, it is my sincere hope that other endeavors were more..., thoroughly thought through before taking to press/e-print. Would I spend $2.99 to read the further adventures of these two characters? Most likely not.

Murmured= the most over used word in writing.
Murmured was to replace the overused word "said" however very few people actually murmur so why is is used so frequently in writing?

I am 28 pages into this book and murmured has already greatly been overused.
Find a thesaurus!

The other thing that bothered me about this book was the use of both first and last names. Typically in writing the author will introduce the character and then use only the first OR the last name OR a nickname throughout the rest of the book. Not this author, the full name was used again and again throughout this entire book. For EVERY character. I guess extra words were important.

Otherwise I enjoyed this book. I bought book 2 so I could finish their story. If the errors in editing/word count aren't fixed in book 2 I won't be purchasing the rest of the series. Just too frustrating.

TRINITY'S INNOCENCE IS TRULY A FLAW IN HER CHARACTER. I FOUBD HER CHARACTER VERY HARD TO LIKE BECAUSE SHE WAS WEAK AND STUPID. BECAUSE OF HER OVERBEARING, OVER PROTECTIVE SINGLE PARENT FATHER, JUDGE AUTHUR GRACE, RAISED HER AS IF HE HAD THE "PETER, PETER PUMPKIN EATER SYNDROM", NEVER LETTING HER BECOME AN ADULT. THIS STORYLINE IS FILLED WITH MYSTERY, LIES, DECEIT, SUSPENSE, PARENTAL ABUSE AND SEXY ROMANCE. FUNNY HOW MOST PROBLEMS IN BOOKS ARE CAUSED BY LACKING PARENTAL SKILLS (IN REAL LIFE TOO). I HAD TO FEEL SORRY FOR TRINITY AS MORE AND MORE OF THE STORY UNFOLDED. RUSH THE MALE LEAD WASN'T WITHOUT HIS OWN DEMONS CAUSED BY WHAT? "HIS FAMILY UP-BRINGING". I REALLY ENJOYED THE READ THOUGH, I WAS HAPPY TO GET MY HEA, HAD ME WORRIED THER FOR A MINUTE. WHEW!

overall I liked the story. it was a tragedy what happened to Trinity and her mothet when she was little but her father was just too much. i don't blame her for not wanting to go from that situation to a similar one with Rush. after what happened in the hot tub between Trinity and Rush, i was not surprised at the result. when Rush left her at the end, i did't blame Trinity for feeling the way she did about Rush being with other women. if he loved her the way he said he did, he would have fought to be with her instead of taking her father's word as to what she supposedly had done. i just wish this book would have had Rush's pov.
