Disappointing

There's a saying in cooking, the presentation has to be great. In writing, the presentation is in how well a book is edited and formatted. This book falls down in that respect.

Billionaire and son of the current sitting president, Jake Sherbrooke has a reputation in the tabloids as a playboy. The reality couldn't be further from the truth. He's a hands on philanthropist and engineer who runs his own foundation from the front lines. It's on the front lines of a hurricane which decimated part of New England where he meets navy doctor Charlie. Charlie is home on leave and facing an important decision when the hurricane hits. But then jake breezes into her life and nothing is the same.

To say I had a lot of problems with this story is underselling it.

The grammar was so haphazard I wonder if the book received any editing. If it did, the editor needs to be fired. So many comma problems. So, so many. It was almost unreadable.

The author didn't do a whole lot of research. Just as an FYI, most A named storms aren't that powerful... Andrew was an exception... And New England never gets a direct hit from the first storm of the season. They may get the remnants. But never a full fledged direct hit. It has to do with water and air temperatures.

The lack of research carried into Charlie's career. Based on the fact that she's considering retiring and that the navy paid for her degree in medicine, she has to be in her early 40s. The navy requires this because they don't want to be used just for an education and then lose their doctors to much more lucrative private practice. There are contracts and the navy's website spells this out. And while I am all for a reverse age gap, that needed to be stated and Charlie acts nothing like a mature 40 year old woman.

Then there are the characters. Jake is so generic that I can't really tel you much about him. Charlie is also fairly generic and what personality is there is pretty annoying.

The plot is predictable and several subplots are just left hanging. Like the stuff with Charlie's family. There's no resolution. Speaking of, the sex also cuts off midway. You get all of the foreplay in lurid detail, but no actual penetration. Just the morning after. It's at the point where I can't call this a clean romance... The foreplay is too descriptive. But I can't call it steamy either. It's a cop out.

In all I was super disappointed with this book and I won't bother checking out the rest of the series.

Two stars... And that's only because there was no out and out egregious offense.

All about the Sherbrooke family..They are an fantastic and interesting group of people Loved especially the way the interacted with each other..I have to say Christina has done it again.. and actually did it better than the first time with this book..which I never thought could be possible..Charlie and Jake's romance was hard fought but so worth the outcome.. you have to read these books..

All his life, Jake Sherbrooke has rebelled against his wealthy family. He refuses to be more than a figurehead at his charitable foundation, pounding hammers and hefting supplies with the rest of the volunteers after the Massachusetts coast is devastated by a hurricane. Navy physician Charlotte O'Brien is on vacation when the hurricane hits her Massachusetts hometown, and is drawn to Jake, who is nothing like the selfish playboy the press makes him out to be. But when Jake's ex-girlfriend claims to be having his baby and the press attacks him and Charlotte, can their relationship stand the pressure?

A well-written romance novel is the literary equivalent of comfort food, and this is definitely that. The characters are interesting and the plot is well paced (if a little contrived). The supporting characters are also intriguing, adding layers to the plot while setting up for the next Sherbrookes of Newport sequel. The Billionaire Playboy is a light, fun well-written novel and part of a series I want to read more of.

Cute story. I really like the characters that Christina Tetreault has created. I scored a three because the transitions from one scene to the next, or even within a scene, weren't very smooth and it kind of affected the story. I will continue reading these, however, because I do like the stories.

I have enjoyed reading Ms. Tetreault's books so far, and this one was no different. The Sherbrooke's are a great family and I love the way they interact with each other. I really enjoyed this story. Charlie and Jake were great couple and complimented each other well. Ms. Tetreault did a nice job in developing these characters and giving them great personalities and relatable qualities. They have great chemistry and their witty banter was so much fun to read. Both come from very different backgrounds and they have their own individual fears to deal with. I loved watching them overcome their fears and grow closer. This was a very well-written story that held my interest all the way through. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the next one.

Excellent

Excellent story of a billionaire who's reputation was nothing like the man he really was. Great chemistry between Jake and Charlie made this very enjoyable. Recommended read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book as a part of a book tour in exchange for a fair and honest review. I rated it 3.5 out of 5 Stars -

For some, love or the fear of being in love can be an emotional storm as strong as a hurricane. In Christine Tetreault's The Billionaire Playboy, it's an actual hurricane which brings the young lovers together. With likable characters, a sweet romance and plenty of angst, Ms. Tetreault's story transported me to a picturesque town where two characters, with backgrounds as different as night and day, meet, fall in love and entertained me for the day.

Captain Charlotte “Charlie” O'Brien is home on leave while trying to decide what to do with her future, should she re-enlist in the Navy or take a chance and head into public practice. While staying at her mother's bed and breakfast, a hurricane sweeps through the small town of North Salem, and Charlie finds herself doing what she does best - taking charge of the situation. She never expected to meet Jake Sherbrooke, a man known as "The Billionaire Playboy" or on falling in love with the man he reveals himself to be.

Jake Sherbrooke has spent his whole life trying to carve out a life of his own separate from his wealthy and politically powerful family. Establishing "The Sherbrooke Foundation" was supposed to help him do what he loves, reach out to those in need, and establish him as a serious philanthropist. Unfortunately the paparazzi is determined to simply portray him as the President's young, rich and handsome son. When he learns of the hurricane and the damage it's done to North Salem, he personally visits the town to help as much as he can. He never planned on falling in love with a gorgeous redhead who's different from anyone he's ever dated before.

The scenes between Charlie and Jake are entertaining and they have great verbal and physical chemistry. Coming from two very different social backgrounds, Jake has lived a privileged life while Charlie has struggled for everything she's ever received, they soon realize they have more in common than they thought. They fit together. Unused to the attention the media brings to anyone in Jake's life, Charlie is unprepared to deal with the realities of dating someone who's famous more for who they are than what they do. Ms. Tetreault did a great job developing both Charlie and Jake's characters; we get to see what makes them tick as individuals and as a couple. The biggest problem their relationship has is their fear, Jake's fear of being judged for his birthright and Charlie's childhood fear of being abandoned by another man.

When photos appear making it appear as if Jake is being unfaithful, will Charlie give him a chance to explain? Will Charlie and Jake's fears tear them apart? You'll have to read The Billionaire Playboy to find out. It's a light romance and fun book to read.

My rating wavered between two a three stars (which would have been a round up from 2.5 stars).

The heroine of this story, Charlotte (Charlie) could have been a really strong yet sassy character considering that she was a Navy physician. Instead, she presented as emotionally stilted and annoyingly indecisive. While she had her reasons, the story failed to show her evolving from her hesitance towards accepting of Jake.

Ah, Jake, the hero. The billionaire playboy who wasn't really a playboy meaning that although he dated a new woman every other day, he didn't sleep with them so it's okay. Appropriately sexy, Jake worked hard to show that he was just a regular guy and throughout the book, he expressed exasperation with the problems that his fame caused him in his life and his relationships. He was more or less a likable guy.

What I liked about the book was that Charlie quickly realized that her assumptions about Jake were inaccurate and she took a leap of faith and went with his flow in terms of spending time with him. Which is why it was beyond confusing that Charlie was so quick to believe the tabloids when stories about Jake were published. Jake was ticked and rightfully so.

But about that. Jake considered Charlie to be naive about the tabloids so really, he should have better prepared her for what being in a relationship would be like. He didn't. He was laissez faire about the press and managed to demonstrate the rich, entitled, oblivious side of his character that the writer was trying so hard to prove didn't exist.

There were some loose ends in the story that I felt needed to be explored, resolved, or omitted from the beginning. Much was made about Charlie feeling like an outsider within her own family. Although Charlie had a somewhat revealing chat with her mother, she really should have had a sit down with her brother. The author hinted that there were hard feelings that needed to be hashed out but nothing happened.

Another example is when Jake expressed frustration that a family friend was going to be at his sister's wedding and the friend's behaviour towards Jake was characterized as "obsessive". Nothing came of that though so what was the point of mentioning it? The friend didn't even make an appearance in the story beyond being alluded to.

Finally, while I mostly enjoyed the story, I felt it was a bit of a stretch for Jake to be the son of the U.S. President. The story would have seemed a bit more realistic had he been the son of a senator perhaps.

Even though the Billionaire Playboy's main characters were practically adults, and I like to read teen romances, I must say, this isn't a bad read. It's romantic. Charlotte and Jake doesn't carry their romance off that far. The plot is new and fresh. Like I like how there is Jake's sister's wedding and all that. I like how Charlotte gets jealous of the girls around Jake. It's all good. Even though it isn't my average teen romance book.

I really enjoyed this story. Charlie and Jake's romance was hard fought but worth the out come. I can't say I like it better than book one but the story was a great compliment to book one. I love how similar in values both character while different in other ways. I am super excited for Sara's story because you know she has been hurt but the depths she holds that hurt shows how mush love she is capible of giving.

Facebook ads got me again. I was intrigued by the premise at first, a do-gooder doctor and philanthropist (authors, we need more of these careers features in books) but it was a pretty drab book after the first couple chapters. Way too short, not an intriguing storyline in the slightest, and the writing was awkward. Could have been a DNF but it was short enough that I took the hour to finish it all.

Captain Charlotte “Charlie” O'Brien, a doctor in the U.S. Navy, returns to her home in North Salem, Massachusetts, to make her decision about whether to retire or re-enlist. The severe Hurricane Andrea floods the town. Jake Sherbrooke, who started the Falmouth Foundation, a non-profit disaster relief organization, arrives to help. Charlie recognizes him, pre-judges him harshly, and believes the media reports that he is just a rich playboy, so she dismisses him. After all, he had everything handed to him, never had to work and didn’t know what it was like out here in the “real” world! But her eyes tell her something different as he jumps in and actually helps with the clean-up.

Jake is attracted to Charlie who is different from most of the women he meets. He watched her take charge and direct others in the tasks that needed to be done, and he noticed people listened to her. He walked over and asked how he could help and noticed how cold she was to him. But every time she sees him, he is right in the middle of things, helping. So she begins to thaw toward him as she agrees to spend the day working by his side to see what he did and they get to know each other better.

But his notoriety as the President’s son has the media doing their usual job of twisting things around to make him look like they think the public wants to see him. Will Charlie believe the “lies” that imply he is cheating? Will she think the worst of him yet again? Will she let her jealousy of other women who want to surround him make her angry at him? Do they have any kind of future together? Or will she let it all go and take an easier path?

I think that some things here were not easily believable, even though I am a reader who will try my best to “suspend my disbelief” if the story is otherwise good. I thought Charlie was sort of immature in light of her life experiences. Her family relationships among others seemed to be handled as if she were a juvenile. Regardless, I enjoyed the story line and hoped her relationship with Jake would help her grow up a little. Grab your copy and see how things work out!

I loved Jake in this story, he is so compassionate, down to earth, sweet, funny, sarcastic and humble. Jake is the misunderstood Sherbrooke who doesn't do things by the book, a rebel at heart with a heart of gold. When the small town of Salem is hit by a hurricane Jake doesn't hesitate to give a helping hand. Jake is struck by the beauty of a redhead barking orders, he never expected her to be the Doc or a SEAL, he especially didn't expect to be captivated by her. Charlie is home on leave from the Navy SEALS needed to decide her future when hurricane Andrea hits her hometown. But hurricane Andres wasn't the only thing to cause chaos in Charlie's life, she never expected the Sherbrooke playboy himself of the Falmouth foundation to actually come and help everyone out. Charlie never expected to be captivated by this playboy's ways and refuses to give her into her heart's desire. Jake and Charlie's story is adorable, cute, sweet with amazing banter and compassion. At times I wanted to slap some sense into Charlotte, while admiring her strength. This story gives a great message on some issues we currently face today, humanity and the harm words can inflict. The biggest is the reoccurring theme of the media's interference and manipulative ways, and how gullible some readers can be who give these platforms strength by continuously reading the false news. I loved the book, especially Jake and getting to read more about Dylan and Callie.

This is the 1st story I have read in the series and look forward to reading from the beginning. This story is about Charlie O’Brien a Captain Navy Doctor on leave while a hurricane hits her small town of North Salem, MA. She is home trying to decide if she should re-enlist or retire into civilian life. During the cleanup Jake Sherbrooke who is the President's son shows up offering his help from the Falmouth Foundation, an organization that helps with disasters. Charlie recognizes Jake and does not pay him much attention believing he is a playboy the media portrays him to be. Jake is pleasantly surprised how Charlie seems to be a leader among the town and finds himself very attracted to her. Charlie starts to doubt the media as Jake gets his hands dirty with all the help he does. As these two work together cleaning up they get closer and start a relationship not knowing after his time in town what will happen. There is a undeniable connection between them and as Jake and Charlie continue their relationship they become closer and Jake even takes Charlie to a family wedding. When things become complicated and Charlie believes the media do things fall apart. Will Jake ever get the chance to get Charlie to see what really happened? Can these two strong minded people find a way back to one another? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

short and sweet

Great story. Love a story where the characters get to see who the hero really is despite what the media likes to paint them as. I’m this story ‘playboy’ billionaire Jake Sherbrooke is assisting on a hurricane clean up and meets Charlie a bay doctor. But she is honestly rude and short with him at first which made me not like her at first. Her reasoning was because he had everything given to him and didn’t have to work for it. But that honestly doesn’t automatically make him a bad person. Her prejudices held her back. Then she was proven wrong by him always being a gentleman and considerate and hardworking and caring about his foundation not just being a poster boy for the company. He got his hands dirty and helped others. To then turn around after getting to know him and ghost him for a clear miscommunication problem when he did nothing wrong. She automatically believed the worst and he was caring for a family member. Honestly. I would have made her grovel a bit more for how horribly she treated him without letting him explain. But their whole relationship was miscommunication that could have been cleared up had they stated what they wanted from the relationship to begin with. Can’t wait for more.

Playboy meets the in charge Navy doctor

Charlie joined the Navy to be able to go to college. She became a doctor and stayed. While home visiting her mother a storm devastated their small town. When Jake shows up with people from his nonprofit to help Charlie knowing his reputation in the press expects him to be there for a photo opp and leave. Instead he works like all the rest and proves to be invaluable. Charlie has issues with men because her father left them when she was little. She has never let herself have a serious relationship. As she interacts with Jake she begins to have feelings that make her rethink her dating policy. Jake is intrigued by Charlie then learns she is a doctor and Naval officer and understands why she is the one taking charge in the recovery effort.

Charlie has trouble with men and Jake is trying to get her to see him as someone other than the playboy image the press projects. It was a sweet story with good characters and lots of interplay with friends and family making it more interesting. I will read more in this series.

It's a great story however, it does have a running theme of how the media manipulates reality and can hurt the ones you love. Jake and Charlie's relationship is really romantic and they bond over tasks to help rebuild Charlie's hometown after a hurricane but, mistakes are made between the two that lead to some misunderstandings. Of course, much of those stem from the media hunting Jake with a camera in order to produce the most scandalous of gossip. I will admit that Charlie's insecurities over her feelings for Jake and her constant insistance that they are not exclusive did drive me crazy and I wanted to remind her of some of the private conversations that she and Jake had that would dispel her negative thoughts.

This was the first book for me from this series as well as the author. I enjoyed the story and characters so much that I will definitely be reading the entire series.

I really enjoyed this book the second book I have read from this series if I did not know that the story continues on into the start of the next book I would comment on how the book ended to quickly. Back to this book it wasn't your typical rich guy meets average girl and falls in love there is nothing average about Charlie she is a dr on leave from the navy trying to decide if she should retire or re-enlist when a hurricane blows through her town and the local dam breaks. Enter Jake the rich guy of earlier comment who is the boss of a foundation he set up to help areas where a disaster hits.l don't want to say more as I don't want to spoil the book for anyone.

I love how Charlie cracks on with things when the hurricane hit while she is visiting home, she is a no nonsense woman so when Jake rocks up and gets hands on instead of just standing there looking pretty she is intrigued and it doesn't hurt that he is hawt. I really like how not only is Charlie trying to work out whether to retire from the Navy but also how she feels about Jake after years of keeping men at arms length. There story is filled with self doubts, attraction, laughs, family members you don't always love as well as lies and miss communications so plenty to keep you hooked until the end!

I really like the premise of this story that Jake and Charlie are both such giving and caring people that want to do better in this world. I like their back stories and their sense of self. I like the way they act with each other. I like that they both are strong and that Jake is not what everyone makes him out to be and that Charlie has the ability to see him for his real self. I am sad when the drama shakes Charlie's idea of Jake. I like their resolution and look forward to reading more books by this author and especially in this series.

The Billionaire Playboy by Christina Tetreault is a great read. This is a fairly short read, perfect for those with limited time for reading. Ms Tetreault has delivered a well-written book. The characters are fantastic. Charlotte (Charlie) and Jake's story is stuffed with drama, action, humor and sizzle. I totally enjoyed this book and look forward to my next read by Christina Tetreault. The Billionaire Playboy is book 2 of The Serbrookes Of Newport Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

This is the story of Charlotte and Jake. He started a nonprofit disaster relief organization and meets Charlie when a hurricane hits her town. She’s a doctor in the navy and home on leave trying to decide what her future should be. When the storm hits, Charlie helps and organizes things to help the town. When these two meet they both feel a connection. As they work to get the town back on it’s feet, the attraction grows. I enjoyed this sweet, steamy romance. Same problems as bk1. Lots of skipping and jumping that affect the flow of the read. Bk1 I rounded down to 2 stars, this one I'm rounding up to 3. Not sure if it's better, or if I was just more accepting of the issues is already seen in 1. PS, I didn't actually realise this was the second book for the first chapter or two. I just noticed similar names and had a quick look. Probably would have bypassed it if I had of realised up front. But I do like Jake.

Another enjoyable read. I am going through the whole series, and now feel part of the family! Jake is such a likeable character, even in bk 1 (Jakes brother Dylons story) Not too much detail in the bedroom scenes in any of the books I have read so far, but just enough to get the tension, emotion and atmosphere for the reader perked up and rearing to go. A good lesson here, is not to judge a book by its cover... people too. Well worth a read.

The second book in The Sherbrookes of Newport series a well written story of a woman who believes what she hears about others is true. I enjoyed the 2nd book in The Sherbrookes of Newport series. The Playboy & the Navy Doctor was a good choice. They balanced each other’s personalities & were great together. I enjoyed how Charlie made Jake work for her attention, but when he got it magic ensued. Both were strong willed & stubborn but also loving. It was fun watching them try for alone time only to be interrupted often. Recommend to read.
