My mom warned me that men are dangerous—the depraved Bee’h most of all. Now, I’m sharing a room with one. Nomi I thought switching roommates was a good idea until I found out my new roommate was J’bel. He's the First Officer on The Rose and the most frightening species in the galaxy. With horns, fur, and claws, he’s every monster from my childhood nightmares. But once he moves in, I realize he’s so much more than that. He’s sweet. Passionate. Sensual. Thrilling, in the most forbidden way. He makes me feel things I’ve never felt with anyone else. And I crave more. J’bel Women want me for only one thing. To get themselves off with the wild beast they fear. They like the adrenaline. I’m their dirty, explicit sex dream. A roller coaster they want to ride. Nothing more. When my adorable, doll-faced roommate asks me to teach her about her body, how can I refuse? I wish this could be more than physical, but I’m not the guy who gets the girl. I’m the guy who gets the girl off. If you love monster romances with male characters who are wild in the bedroom, but secretly love to cuddle, you'll love this sizzling short read. Beauty and the Beast Player and virgin Unintentional Roommates Teach me Monster alien He calls her “beauty” and “doll face” She calls him “beast” and “big guy”
“What will you christen me?” “My Beauty.” “And I'll call you my Beast.”
I don't know which I prefer between Beast and Sneak, but for the tropes and the personalities of the characters, I'd have to say Beast. I liked the fact that they were roommates and that she was ‘innocent’. What bugs me is the fact that the men-aliens can't keep their genitals in their trousers once they've met their other half. The fact that these are novellas is no excuse for the lack of depth and attention paid to the relationships and their development. Even if I find that the one between J'bel and Nomi is the best crafted - or at least the most detailed on paper.
The few times we've seen Ada again, she's really pissed me off. In fact, the patronising way in which everyone calls Nomi ‘baby’ just because she's the youngest got on my nerves.
What also bothered me about this book was Nomi's crush on Galen. In fact, the way all the characters sexualise each other pissed me off. It takes away a lot of intimacy from the couple highlighted in each book. It makes the relationship less special.
Despite all this, am I still going to read the other five novels in the series? Yes, I'm committed.
- Virgin FMC - "Lessons" - He falls first - She's so clueless and it's so cute - Childhood trauma - Little bit of voyeurism in her - He's course, he's unrefined, he just a big sweet teddy bear for her - Tired of being an experience wants it to be real - Size difference (sorta) - J'bel is my favorite and nothing bad is allowed to happen to him - THEA WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?!
I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review, I also pre-ordered this before I got on the ARC list because yes.
The Rose is on a seven year mission to uncharted space, to go where no one has gone before, boldly so! But they are still two months away from being out of com range, so when it goes down unexpectedly it causes a bit of a stir. What else causes a stir is Galan and Ada going at it like rabbits in front of their roomates. Nomi is the naive coms officer who is the youngest officer in history and several years younger than her peers. J'bel is the beastly first officer who is getting sick and tired of sleeping in the mess hall and having the lovey dovey relationship of his best friend rubbed in his face because that's what he'll never have.
Why does the first officer have a roommate and not a private quarters? I don't know and I honestly don't care. This has been my favorite of the series so far and I don't know if it's because I love when the big scary guys who act like they don't care or come off as playboys are really just big squishy sweethearts or if it's because J'bel gives off Wookie vibes which speaks to my monster-loving heart. Either way, this would be 6-stars if reviews let me do such nonsense things.
Nomi is someone I totally get. She's smart, pretty, the baby, and her mom messed her up when it comes to her sexuality. She is clueless and a few naked booties has sent her down a path she didn't know existed. J'bel like leads her through the hedge maze and into the secret garden on a journey to discover herself and claim her sexuality. It's beautiful in a way and something I can completely relate to. So I love Nomi, and I love her big furry man.
The more I get to read of this series and the more little snippets that Thea sneaks in about past couples, the more I love it. I know it may be oversaid in my reviews for this series but it really does feel like I am along this Star Trek-like journey and each book is a different episode. The characters are living their lives and you get to see glimpses into that as it goes. It makes the universe feel more full, I guess that's the best way to say it. It's life, and it goes on, and it evolves.
And we come back to our best friend the saboteur. Little bread crumbs are being left in each new book and we get to see just a little bit more behind the curtain. Is it someone we know? Someone yet to be introduced? We don't know (and the author won't tell me! Rude I know). Torture in the best form.
This was definitely more spice than plot! I liked it though to see this other side of J’bel and Nomi. I think they both gained a lot through their relationship. It was sweet to see how caring and attentive J’bel was with Nomi. Taking care of her from afar basically and giving her space until she was ready. Little did she know that learning from J’bel about the physical aspects on a relationship would lead to so much more for them both. You could say that the teacher and students both gained a lot. 😉
I had a lot of fun reading another book in the Rose Rising series!
I loved J’bel’s sexy lessons he taught Nomi. She was so sweet and innocent just waiting to be corrupted by her Beast. I liked the curiosity aspect of their explorations of each other and how J’bel had so much experience but nothing beat his Nomi.
I pictured J’bel as the space version of Disney’s Beast hehehe. Size difference is a top tier trope for me. I love the splash of angst too, I’m an angst girly.
My favorite in the series so far. I love J'bel ever since he appeared in the first book, so this is one of my highly anticipated book in the series and I am glad that I powered through the 2nd book to get to this. It was very sweet at the same time, spicy. There's more depth to it and more communication.
This is the reason there’s romance reads… this is both empowering and sexy! J’bel is a great hero and Nomi is both innocent and wise. I love how she comes into her own and takes charge of her sexuality. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
My favorite book yet! Each story is stand alone but I really enjoyed how cute this couple was. They were perfect for each other and I loved how sweet it was along with the spice!
Must read series but definitely read from the beginning, you won't regret it!
I am a beauty and the beast freak. Straight facts. Loved this story. Normally I’m not a fan of virgin MFC and an overly experienced MMC but I really enjoyed their dynamics and connection. Can’t wait to read the next one!
J'Bel and Nomi! I loved this book so much! This series just seems to be getting better and better! I love the mystery running throughout the series too! Makes me want to keep on reading!
“You’re the princess in the tower. The kind of woman a man wants to wake up. To corrupt.”
I normally don’t do virgin romances but, this one may have changed that for me. Its the “teach me” trope for me. This may be may favorite of the Rose Rising series right now.
Thea Masen knows how to write in depth characters, that you can't help falling for, but also really relate to. Beast easily became a favorite. J'bel became my new book boyfriend- soft, dark fur and all. The way that he guided Nomi in her s*xual awakening and how he liked to cuddle but was also an animal in the sack- can't get enough. Hope that they are both highlighted in the next books.
This novella is the third book in the Rose Rising series and let me tell you…. I think it’s the hottest one yet! An alien who is both feared and known for his sexual exploits and a human woman who is very sheltered and innocent… yeah there were some very hot scenes in Beast. I highly recommend you check this series out if you like lighthearted, smutty, alien romances.
