I am a thriller writer, living near London. 'Death Force' is the first in a series of books following a group of mercenaries around the world. It owes a lot to action, adventure writers like Alistair MacLean, and World War Two writers like Sven Hassel. It also owes a lot to Westerns. When I'm not writing thrillers, I write a financial column for Bloomberg, and I write for The Spectator.
This a good thriller that writes with conviction about the world of global businesses. Has a good central idea that it sustains and delivers upon. All I would change is to remove the swearing in the first couple of pages. Not needed for effect (could be achieved in other ways) and in fact slightly detrimental. Plus one or two minor typos. Other than that, enjoyed this read, and would recommend it for anyone wanting to read about corporate good guys and bad guys.
Wow. That was an amazing, breathtaking page turner. Kept me absolutely glued until the end. Unexpected twists in the story add to icing on the cake. A superb thriller.
I am a huge Matt Lynn fan and have read all of the Death Force series of books. I was hesitant at first to step outside of my normal genre and read this one, but I must say I am so glad I did, so glad that I just bought the other 2 stand alone novels! Ok.. I won't bore you with what the book is about, that what the description is for. I enjoyed this book from the very first chapter it had me guessing where the story was going and rooting for Jack to get ahead. As one if the other reviewers said there was some dated info in the book but if you read the story it was set in the 90's, so the info was to be expected.. Anyway a very well written novel with a great plot and very strong supported characters. I would give this one a very solid four stars, with all of the garbage being written nowadays it is a pleasure to read a well written suspense. Give this one a read people, it appeals to readers of all genres.
This book was a bit too 'talky' and not enough action for me. Fine if you like that sort of thing but I found the pharmaceutical / stocks & shares chatter a bit too much at times. I only managed to finish because it didn't exceed 300 pages lol. Oh well, some you win and some you lose.
I would like to give this book 5 stars but I had some difficulty with the financial aspects of the plot. Even after finishing the book I'm still not sure exactly what a "put" is.
