Very cute volume! I loved it when Yoh met Haruna's family. The scene where her dad gave him beets (?) and told him to "Wait until Marriage please" was priceless.
Then we see the mean girl who tries to get between Yoh and Haruna. Needless to say, I don't like her very well. Anyone who tries to break-up the cutest couple gets a low mark in my book.

Imma be honest here: me hizo reír mucho lo loca que está la hermana de Akito. There. I said it.

I suppose we DID need a cliff hanger volume at some point…
But did we really need someone to "replace" Asa?! *sigh*
I LOVED so much of this volume…until the sister (who is not Asa) showed up. UGHHHHH! I don't like her one bit. Yeah, she may have some sad backstory, but girl, you need to back up and look elsewhere! I want us to go back to Haruna and her friends, but there out for summer and I really don't like this girl or want more page time with her. She's incredibly rude (even to her family) and it's not fair that she's being all nice to Yoh while treating her brother like crap IMO.
ANYWAY! The chapter with Yoh meeting Haruna's family was AMAZING! I absolutely loved loved LOVED it! I laughed so much and even almost snorted. LOL! I thought it really cool what Haruna's father said to him. Like you go Dad!
This review is sort of backwards, but I respect Asaoka so much! He is such a great friend! It goes to show that even if a character does have feelings for another but they are dating someone, their doesn't HAVE to be a bunch of drama. I really really really liked that! I hope he continues to be happy though because he deserves all the good things too. <3
I suppose onto the next volume where I REALLY don't want to see this girl. Ughhhh! Maybe if she hadn't been completely rude to her brother I wouldn't feel such strong dislike towards her, but she didn't and I do.
Onto to see what happens next...

'you joke about everything all the time. are you sure you even know how you truly feel?' oooooh get his ass mami!!!
'haruna i like you' 'you can't trick me anymore' ohohoho that sweet, sweet tragedy. the boy who cried wolf. the boy who couldn't get the girl anyway and he knew it. the boy...oh man i am feeling bad for him now- I don't think he really knew that he likes her. i think he was in denial a bit because who cares if he likes her, she won't ever like him the way she likes yoh.
yoh at haruna's house was so cute. her brother trying on his pants lmao, the entire family and yoh being kinda flustered. saying 'i think i need her more than she needs me'!!!!!!!! to her dad!!!
oh no, not the 'ugly mean studious girl' story line. but i guess i like how sad and sulky she maes yoh - like hot people have feelings too lmao.

The sports day was so fun!! Asaoka is such an interesting person and I feel like we still don’t know a lot about him. But he does seem to really enjoy getting on Yoh’s nerves and playing sleight of hand to compel Yoh into action.
The cram school situation is interesting. I don’t particularly like the choices of Miyabi. She embodies a rather outdated trope, I think, but the issues of sibling comparisons is interesting.
Seeing how excited Haruna gets to see Yoh and help him on his days off class is so cute though. I just wish the incoming Miyabi drama weren’t a thing.

While I still enjoy reading this series, I don’t like the addition of another potential love rival. I feel like there could’ve been a different form of conflict for Haruna and Yoh.
Although, I will say that Yoh meeting Haruna’s family and, the conversation between Yoh and her dad was adorable.

Maybe I’m the one who thinks that this story is overrated. I know they’re cute together but I just think that Haruna is a little bit overwhelmed & overbearing. I get it that sometimes she wants to help people but the way she did it is over the boundaries.

The sports festival, Yoh meeting Haruna's family for the first time (he literally gets swept away) and introducing a git called Miyabi Jyoho. All very interesting particularly Miyabi...

I hope everyone who read Vol.9 had this one on hand, too, otherwise the cliffhanger in the last one will have eaten them up.
So the school sports festival finally starts and we get a hilarious bit where Yoh and Asaoka compete in the games, we get a lot of the school falling for Yoh when he sees a cheering Haruna giving her all and smiles while he's doing the cheer-leading (AWW, heheh).
And we get Asaoka's bitter-sweet well-deserved come-uppance when he realizes that he truly wants Haruna, not just so she might see through his long-time mask as she does for Yoh, but just because she's Haruna. Because when he tells her.... remember, he was the guy who cried wolf last time, making her believe he had fallen in love with her.... she cheerfully tells him he won't catch her out this time!
Yup, well deserved. Maybe he'll reflect on how he wants to build relationships in the future.
Then we get a bit of a relief from the drama, with Yoh and Haruna's date getting so crowded that they decide to drop by Haruna's house instead - and Yoh gets introduced (and interrogated and feted by) to Haruna's family, heh. The scene with him in the bath and her father outside the door is pure comedy gold ^^.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now my least favourite of all the storylines arrives, one which is stereotypical and bull-shit all around - although I don't think I'm unbiased, having the exact same shape of eyebrows as the ugly nerd girl who falls for Yoh at his preparatory cram school.
Because even if you used to be an ugly, overweight nerd girl, you don't necessarily feel embittered by that to the point of thinking everyone is out to get you (only certain ones, like your parents, heh). I had a younger brother, too, but fortunately I wasn't ugly as a child, but pretty cute myself, so the dynamic which make the girl in the manga so sarcastic and hopeless didn't work with me. Although I sure was selfish and could have done without my brother for most of my time at school - thankfully, we do grow up, and at least I managed to grow out of utter selfishness into sort of a benevolent egocentricity I say.
You can see where it's going: why did Kawahara-sensei introduce this girl, and make her be pathetic till the end (the storyline goes into the next volume) and also make her the purest evil character in all of the manga. Because she's ugly - so it's easy to imply that Yoh won't even notice her infatuation as he could never imagine her as his girlfriend? Because it's easy? Because she's desperate?
Why would Haruna suddenly believe that Yoh smiling with a girl from prep school means that he no longer loves her? He's been totally constant since he's with her, she had to push him into meeting Makoto...
IT JUST MAKES NO SENSE IN CHARACTER!!!!!!!!
I hope the storyline was mandated by the editor.
I am writing about the overall series. I finsihed reading the entire series on January 7, 2011.
The overal series was pretty great. I gave it a 4 star rating. Let's talk about some things now.
I. Love. Yoh. I just love him. He is so adorable! Andd I hate that I have to say that. But I can't help myself, he is SO ADORABLE! ANd cool, and awesome, and hot(lol) and all those other wors to descibe him. I love his personality and I love how he is easily embarrassed. He is just so ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!! I want him. And for all of you who think this is creepy(which it kinda is), I tend to fall for awesome fictional male characters. I LOVE YOH. And you would too if you ever read the manga.
Haruna. In the beginning of the manga I thought she was realy, really stupid. REALLY STUPID. And then later on I thought she was realy, really annoying and too much of a perfectionist. In the end, I ended up liking her. Maybe not in the ending because I didn't know my feelings for her in the end. She kinda made me have this weird angry-nice-weird-awkward vibe towards her. Her character is really thought out though. But overall, she's all right.
In the beginning of the book, I thought the whole concept was really kinda dumb. I mean, a love coach. That's just kinda ridiculous and desperate, which Haruna was, but pathetic. Though that whole concept fades later n, it was just really ridiculous. Ri-dic-u-lous. Ridiculous.
THere are many parts that made me laugh or gag when I was reading this manga. Let's look back in my brain and take a moment to laugh at them. HAHAHAHHA! LOL! LAWLS! OMG! OMG! HUH... FUNNY! AHHHAHAHHA LMAO!AHHAHAHH!hhohohohohohoho! omg! HILARIOUS.... Sigh... Huh... Funny.
Overall, the series was really great and funny and entertaining and sweet and sad and I recommend it to everyone I know and don't know. Though, the guys out there might now like it.
P.S. I really hate Assa.
I like Fumi.
I love Asaoka. ♥♥♥
Thank god the whole sports meet plot is over. Not that it was super terrible, but at least now the plot can move onto something more interesting. I'm still not feeling Asaoka. He's still a weirdo to me and I think he has some legit mental problems. He hits on Haruna and then make awkward jokes. I still have no idea what Asaoka's deal is. It's like he is constantly jumping back and forth from 'I wanna be your boyfriend' to 'haha I was just teasing you hahah'. MAKE UP YOUR MIND ALREADY!!
Also, can I just say that I've found someone who I hate even more than Yoh's sister Asa? I don't even care if she had a somewhat bad (not really in my opinion)childhood. It doesn't give you the right to be a mega-bitch to random strangers. Poor Jouhou or whatever his name is. He's a bit quiet and too shy, but at least he's not a jerk face like his sister. Plus, what's up with her constantly attacking Yoh? Then she seems to go all creepy towards him like she's gonna start stalking him. I don't get why Yoh is being nice to her. She is legit a crazy and I would stay away from the freaky nerd girl that has anger problems. I'm curious to see where the hell the plot is heading with this girl...
Also, I'm still waiting for cute box-guy to show up again. Out of all the new boys, he is the only one that has yet to pop up in the plot. I swear I will not be happy until he appears. With my luck, he won't even end up having any relevance to the story line.
The match for Haruna's heart between Asaoka and Yoh is heating up as it reaches its end. Who will win the match, and thus, gain the right to win Haruna's affections? And later, summer break is here and Yoh is going to be busy all summer again with prep school! But if that isn't enough of a downer, Yoh is getting bullied by some ugly girl that he never did anything to but help! But when that girl finally starts to warm up to Yoh a bit too much, and Yoh begins to like her as a person, will Haruna take what she witnesses too far? Or has Yoh already found someone else?
I swear, Haruna is just like me when I was in my last year of middle school. XD She misinterprets a lot of things, especially concerning things with her boyfriend, Yoh. But, well... I really don't have much else to say about this manga at this time. I think I waited too long to read between volumes 09 and 10. It was cute though.
Haruna's family is so aaaawkward. When her parents are enthusiastic about her boyfriend coming to meet them is one thing, but even her brother?!
Yoh's classmate in test prep could have been such an interesting character if Kawahara knew what to do with her. As it is, she's shaping up to be yet another rival for Yoh's affections, with Haruna doing her ineffectual spying. Like, could you be more obvious with that "spy" t-shirt, girl?
So this book had a lot happen. Asoika does having feelings for Haruna, but seem's to be keeping them in the dark.
Yoh got to meet Haruna's family and was really shy and awkward. It was funny how they kept barging in and Haruna was all like hey I want to spend time with Yoh alone.
I hope this girl doesn't bring more problems. She obviously likes Yoh, but I don't think the feeling is mutual, but you know Haruna. The wheel's start spinning in her head.
This is one of my favorite manga series. I feel so bad for Haruna at the end, because I would be worried too, if I was her. But I bet Yoh was being nice to that girl, because he would never drop Haruna. And you can see how much he cares about her. (A LOT) It's funny how Yoh gets embarrassed so easily XD And personally, I think Asoaka's....creepy. In almost every panel, he smiles with his eyes closed...I mean..seriously creepy. Anyway, this is a great book and I love it :P
Owww Aoaka! Me encanto su confusión... Creo que Mami-chan tiene toda la razón, y la chica rara de lentes, por un lado la comprendo al recibir el desprecio de sus padres por su afecto físico, pobre... Pero ¡se esta enamorando de Yoh! Nooo y ese final, jooder, tranquila Haruna, a él no le gusta, solo le cae bien. Esta manga cada vez me engancha maas xD
This one wraps up the sports day storyline, thankfully. It was cute how devoted You was to making it work and doing a good job, but I kind of hated the competition over Asaoka telling Haruna about his feelings. Bleh. The new storyline is about a girl getting a crush on You, and I'm enjoying it much more. I hope that Haruna doesn't go off the rails with jealousy though!
July 30, 2009
Enjoyed the first part of this one with the sports festival. I'm not sure how I feel about the second half with Jyoho's sister. She's strange, I'll grant you that, but she intrigues me as well. Could she possibly be a new project for Yoh? I guess I'll have to wait for the next volume to see.
August 9, 2012
When Yoh decides to go to a summer class, his girlfriend is bummed until she realizes there's a bully along with him. Also, goes along to finish the sports festival which kept some secrets hidden and some revealed the true nature of characters.
I like this book alot, mostly cuz the girl with the bushy eyebrows and pigtail looks exactly the same as me...and I know how she feels of being judged by their looks. BUT! I don't try to steal somebody's girlfriend no matter how much I may like him. XP
January 28, 2015
Yoh was impressive. He really xr out of his shell to show everyone how much Haruna really means to him. Even if they didn't know what he was doing except for one. Serves Asoaka right, really. Loved it!
