In this novella, an invitation to a reunion of the storm chasing team arrives for Randi Walker. She hasn’t seen her ex-fiancé since he mysteriously disappeared without a word their senior year of college. Randi is determined to find out why Brock Parker left two weeks before the wedding. Can he tell her the truth about his illness?

Fantastic novella about a reunion of a group of meteorologists in Texas. They meet to storm watch after they have secured jobs in their field. This was an exciting look at the close calls with nature and was very descriptive. The romance was just right and worked well since Randi snd Brock had known each other long before. Randi finally learns why Brock called off their wedding. But the sparks still fly and God shows them that they are still meant for each other. Ms Coble writes riveting stories whether they are short or longer. *I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author. All opinions are mine alone. *
I downloaded this novella because I am a huge fan of most of Colleen Coble's work. Unfortunately, this story isn't her writing at its best. I was intrigued by the characters because most are meteorologists and I am fascinated with weather. They have a reunion and go storm chasing, but the reunion isn't the primary story. Instead, it's the story of Randi and Brock and why he left her at the altar. I found this part of the story to be very predictable and not well-developed. Coble also included some unexpectedly sexist language, which is not like her at all. At times, she literally wrote things like "the women stayed in the van" to keep safe from a storm. Why even make them meteorologists if they are going to be placed in stereotypical subservient positions? It reminded me of weather reporter Barbie or veterinarian Barbie or astronaut Barbie - give her a professional title and some education, but make sure she looks good and doesn't take too many risks. Granted, I'm probably overreacting to these scenes. They just bothered me. It's a quick read and it's by no means a terrible book. I just like most or all of Colleen Coble's other stories much better.
This story was cute, but it felt only half researched. The meteorology aspects made my inner weather nerd giddy. The lack of research on travel times by car and the types of rides available at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington* made my copyediting self cringe.
The characters were charming and easy to root for. The storm-chasing fun was quite the ride. I liked the plot even though it didn’t carry any of the author’s trademark suspense.
*The 3D movie that featured a jet ride was available in the 1990s (not the 2020s), and there is no Ferris wheel at Six Flags—but that is a key feature of the State Fair of Texas.
4.2 Stars: For an extremely short novella, just 67 pages, it was a leisurely story packed with adventure, love, and a well thought out and executed story line. I appreciated the Christian element that ran throughout most of the book.
I loved that this story was about a reunion of friends getting back together after about 5 years and doing what they loved doing as a group of young adults and that was chasing storms. This is a clean romance novella. It was fun and adventurous!
Loved the setting of storm chasing and the minor characters added to the story. I felt the main characters's story line was too brief and needed more depth.
But it's good cheese. This is a really good little story. The overall premise is a bit of a stretch, but if people in books always behaved logically, we'd have a lot fewer books to read, now wouldn't we?
I enjoyed the interactions between the characters; I could easily picture a college group coming together again. The storm-chasing was exciting. The romance was actually very sweet. The Christian aspect was well done. There was no preaching or the intimation that Christians are somehow better than everyone else. There was a reference to the kind of witness all Christ-followers are called to be - the steady and dependable and above all else consistent life lived for Him, so that everyone who sees realizes that what you have is real.
Overall, I enjoyed this story very much. I recommend it to any reader, especially if you're interested in human relationships, storms, and learning to walk by faith.
This story is about first real true love. When Randi and Brock work together as storm chasers and fall in love - all is well. Then Randi is left at the alter. After 5 years she never really forgets the feelings of that love - she is angry but never forgets. The the invitation comes for a reunion of the "storm chasers group" to spend 2 weeks chasing storms again.
Will she go, will she see Brock, will feelings be there, will those feelings go away when she sees him or return, was she not good enough for him to marry, will he tell her why he left..............
It is a good book for just light reading. Pick it up and read to see what happens.
I thought when I began this book that it would leave me wanting more. As with all of Colleen Coble's book, I loved the characters and their many quirks. Randi and Brock were o e month away from the altar when Brock disappeared from her life without a word of explanation. Now, five years later, a reunion looms on the horizon. Randi wonders what else will be disclosed. I enjoyed this short read very much.
I've read many Colleen Coble books and this is the first one where I can say I was really disappointed. The storyline was interesting enough, but it was almost like she rushed through it and didn't give enough time to description or development of the characters. It seemed like it was written by someone else other than Ms. Coble - I've never known one of her books to be so underwritten. Oh, well...moving on to the next one...
Another good book of Colleen Coble. She write really good Christian books and I enjoy reading them. It is worth worth to time to read it. It is a short book but very good.
