This is a great primer book for those who don't know Unix/Linux. It does a great job of giving a broad overview of the basics, and gets the reader comfortable quickly. The author is great about staying in scope and he tells you when a topic is elaborate. He always encourages you to repeat what you've learned so that it becomes second nature, learn more through further discovery, and where to find an elaborated reference.

It is a short read and is one of the only quick-learning books I have read that delivers on its promise. However, it is poorly edited - could be clearer in areas and it is rife with grammatical errors. Aside from that, I would recommend this book to a complete Unix novice.
