Miracle

She is currently working on a futuristic Western series of books.
A single mom, Ms. Bushman wears a lot of hats these days. Novelist, writer, editor-Jigsaw Press, typesetter, book cover designer, interior layout and design, to name a few.
In addition to all of the above, the author likes to play ranch-hand for her better than good neighbors when called upon. "In my neck of the woods," she says, "we're all cow and horse junkies. Sort of goes with the territory."
Ms. Bushman states emphatically that she could do none of the above without the support of God and her twelve-year-old daughter, a girl good as gold and smart as the day is long, and then some.
The author and her daughter share their home outside of Sun River, Montana, with one indoor cat--Lady--numerous outdoor cats with names like Garfield, Whiskers, Garfield Imposter, Pinky and Rabbit, plus one American Saddlebred horse, Chewy.

"Miracle" was a story unlike any I've read in the past and is part of a genre I've avoided up until this point. I tend to shy away from anything focused around God and/or religion: including but not limited to: churches, religious zealots, books about finding God etc, etc. That being said, as soon as I realized what the focus of this book was I wanted to throw it away....BUT I didn't...and for that I'm actually...well, glad.
The whole don't judge a book by its cover thing comes into play here..but rather than not judging it by its cover, I shouldn't have judged it by its themes. Yes, the book is a highly spiritual one, but its not overly preachy. There were a few lines of dialogue that made me want to ..well, that's not important, but the point is, that overall while the theme of faith is very prevalant, its not shoving it down your throat obnoxious.
The story is that of Micah Divine, who appears one day on a ranch. Micah is a divine being on a mission, and over the course of his stay on the ranch, he finds himself downright befuddled by the range of human emotions he's experiencing. Throughout the course of his mission he meets several people, some are characters that we come to like, others are an embodiment of evil, but each has something to learn from Micah, and Micah learns from them in return.
The story is about faith; about believing in and trusting something you can't see and hear, but you should accept anyway. The story is about love, loss and growing as a person. It's about relationships, evil and doing the right thing. Overall, its a story of the human spirit and the things it can and will overcome.
The dialogue moves the story along quickly and I have to admit I was never bored...I was never sure what to expect when I turned the page. For a person like me, one who doesn't like books about faith, God and religion, to actually (dare I say it??) enjoy this book, speaks volumes for the author's ability to touch her readers. If you're looking for something different, or if the spiritual genre appeals to you, I'd recommend giving "Miracle" a read.

Well, since I wrote it, you'd expect me to be a bit biased. And what I learned from writing it was to keep an open mind about what life in God's Cosmos might be like.
