Embracing Hamilton

Rate this book
In book two, Amelia Hamilton's life is becoming more complicated by the minute. Still mourning multiple deaths, she struggles to accept severed relationships and embrace the present. During this difficult period, she is faced with a dilemma. Should she accept a position within the IA or blend back into her old existence and pretend the past few months never happened?

The truth regarding a flu pandemic pushes her over the edge, sending Amelia on a whirlwind trip to Nevada where she’ll face Levi Hewitt, the leader of the IA.
The Physician Coalition is preparing to release a deadly disease to the population if Amelia doesn't act fast. Unbeknownst to them, people will be pressured to endure the radical and potentially deadly side effects of JackRabbit7. To make matters worse, a child tied to Amelia's past is a target and he’s in danger.

When death warrants and Project 1931 enter the equation, Amelia finds herself enduring an internal struggle. Should she end her own life, hoping to destroy her grandfather or continue to live, knowing she will have to chase Marius and risk the others he intends to harm for the rest of her life?

Sarah Jayne Carr is a novelist who can be found most evenings with a cup of tea in-hand and her imagination racing from plot to plot. When away from her work, part of her mind is constantly brainstorming her next story and she always has writing paraphernalia within reach.

She wrote stories as a child, but became more serious about her passion during her twenties. In her spare time, she likes to read, splash in mud puddles, smell bookstores and eat Honeycrisp apples. Yearly, she participates in NaNoWriMo and has mentored others through the program. Due to her dedication to National Novel Writing Month, she is part of an amazing writing group.

Born and raised in Washington State, Sarah still resides in the area. Her life is richly filled with her supportive, yet swashbuckling husband and their golden Nugget.

Reading order of the JackRabbit7 series:
The ones with an asterisk are the short stories I wrote. They're backstories on the supporting characters and how their lives intertwine with Amelia's and/or JackRabbit7.

After reading pRevealing Hamilton and Revealing Hamilton I was excited to read Embracing Hamilton and I have to tell you I was not disappointed. Ms. Carr has absolutely done it! I devoured this book in a day - I couldn't put it down! A new cast of characters join Amelia, Nick, Don and Molly. Zephyr had me hot and bothered until he showed his true colors. The relationship between Nick and Amelia continues to frustrate me in the best possible way. We meet the elusive Levi and though he's only in the book a few pages, his presence is felt throughout the book. Orion was a anomaly to me until I learned her truth. She then became someone I connected with. Marius is up to his old tricks but has decided to play out his drama on a larger scale. It isn't until the end when we see the true puppet master. I kept clicking my kindle thinking there was more but Ms. Carr was up to her old tricks and has me waiting with bated breath - what an amazing cliffhanger! Never, never saw that coming.

"Embracing Hamilton" by Sarah Jayne Carr is every bit as excellent as the first book in the series.
Our heroine, Amelia Hamilton is caught in an ongoing power battle between a corrupt group of medics (who once injected innocents with JackRabbit7, a hazardous substance used to alter their DNA) and the Insurance Agency, a resistance group. It doesn't help that Amelia and her family are personally entangled in this battle and that a flu pandemic force her into action.
Like it predecessor, this novel is fastly paced, full of action and interesting characters with strong inner conflicts.
I don't want to say too much about the plot since, but I can assure you that this is a very enjoyable and breathtaking series, original, creative and imaginative.
A great thriller and a gripping read.

Embracing the truth

The beginning was a slow start, Amelia was still trying to figure out where she stood with Nick. His stubbornness seems to fuel the fire of her “teenage angst”.

The story didn’t pick up until when you got to about 40%.

Sometimes it feels like reading a paranormal style story, especially with the dreams and when she has this out of body experiences when seeing past memories of Nick when she touches him.

I wonder where their ‘almost’ relationship will take up in the next book. I hope Dane and Molly can sort out their crap.

Embracing Hamilton is the second book in Sarah J. Carr’s JackRabbit7 series. I received the prequel pRevealing Hamilton from Sarah early last year, and I was hooked to her writing style. JackRabbit7 is very different from what I normally read, but I love it. Once I start one of Sarah’s books, I have a VERY hard time letting go. There’s a reason why pRevealing Hamilton & Revealing Hamilton made it to my Top 10 for 2013. Seriously.

In Embracing Hamilton, Amelia is trying to come to terms with her father’s death (again). Finding him and losing him so shortly after is a nightmare. Even worse is the connection she has to her grandfather; Marius Benedict. Marius is the one who invented the JackRabbit7, and he’s…. uhmmm…. Special? Being linked to her grandfather is a problem for Amelia, especially because the link is one of her feeling his pain. The question is…. Can he feel HER pain? And if either of them dies, will the other perish as well?

And it gets even better…. Amelia’s father wanted her to take over the branch of IA where he worked. But is he equipped to it, or is she too soft hearted?

To make matters even worse… a flu epidemic is flourishing, and the Coalition (Marius Benedict) is proclaiming that they have a vaccine to protect people. (Yeah… that was my thought too). So, now Amelia not only has to deal with another scheme from her grandfather, her (used to be) best friend’s son is missing, she has to endure a person from Nick’s past (pushed onto her by the Top Dog in the IA), and since they don’t have time to train her properly, Amelia has to go through Project 1931, with some side effects that are… very different.

Will Amelia be able to play referee in her own home, stay sane AND save the world from her mad grandfather’s shenanigans?

Oh wow…. I have absolutely NO idea where to start. I mean, I had a CLUE what to expect from Sarah since this is the fourth book I’m reading from her, but I didn’t see THIS coming! The plot is certainly thickening in Embracing Hamilton, more secrets are revealed, and there’s definitely more tension packed into these pages than the previous book; Revealing Hamilton. One thing is that Amelia accepts her father’s position and goes to Las Vegas to HQ to be trained.

Another thing is what she has to drag home with her from Vegas; a hard pumped, top trained, sun(spray)tanned sleazebag – oh, excuse me, IA trainer and agent, also called Zephyr. He’s very different from the evilness of Marcus Benedict, but he is a piece of work. URGH!!

Amelia has changed compared to the first time we met her. Which really isn’t such a surprise, but I like that she is still her. She has become a bit rougher on some points, not as naïve, but she is still a good (and soft) hearted girl. She doesn’t want anyone else to suffer in the war between her and her grandfather. She is stubborn as hell, deathly afraid of needles and anything that remotely reminds her of doctors. And yet, she willingly jumps out into danger, accepts that sometimes you have to look deeper to see the secrets buried underneath and take the plunge, even if it’s scary. It’s truly not her fault that the world she has become a part of is insanely twisted and more filled with secrets than a dragon’s lair is filled with treasures. I mean, just look at Nick and his brother Dane. *throws hands up in the air in despair*

And just when I thought all the surprises were delivered in the end of the story…. Sarah decided to throw in another curveball. I felt Amelia’s pain, surprise and betrayal. My mouth was literally open with surprise when reading it.

To me Sarah has done it again. Embracing Hamilton is packed with action, secrets, plots, bad guys, disguised good guys, needles, testosterone, memories, rules and just a hint of romance. Just a touch. I loved it. It was amazing, and the ending… oy. My sole comfort is that I will receive Hunting Hamilton (JackRabbit7 #3) earlier than the rest. That is my ONLY consolidation right now. Because DAMN Sarah…. HOW could you end it like that?! HOW?! * crosses arms and glares*

***Guest Review From Amy Conley For The Nerd Girl Page***
Amelia Hamilton's life is more complicated and confusing than it's ever been and it's about to become much more complicated...
She's still grieving for people she lost and struggles with ex-friends who can't take no for an answer and still wants to be a part of her life as friends like it use to be. But she has to put all that on hold to deal with her present situation because Amelia has been offered a position within the IA. The time has come for her to make a difficult decision does she take the position or try to ignore everything going on around her and try to have a normal life like nothing ever happened???

My Review:
Every one of these books took me to a whole new level than the last that I never thought possible and blows me away everytime they just get better and better with every book! Just when I think I may have the story figured out or the direction it's headed *BAM* the author throws in more shocking surprises that I never seen coming or even expected sometimes I'm left balling my eyes out while others I'm left sitting with my jaw dropped in total amazement like "did that really just happen?"
There were a couple of intense moments with a few of the characters that had me holding my breath and holding myself together until I knew they were safe and I could breathe again. Obviously I've grown attached to them and don't want anything to happen to them but a there's a few new characters introduced to us in this new book that I wouldn't mind strangling myself..One character in particular makes a return and you'll never believe who it is and what their planning to do (yeah that's one of those jaw dropping moments I told you about earlier!!)
After two books there's still strong storylines, wicked awesome characters and so much adrenline and intensity it'll have you gripping the edge of your seat until the very end!

The book is interesting and compelling the whole time. While I think some things were already clear and therefore the reveal lacked the amount of punch it could have had (there was some, I'm not cold!), it didn't detract because as a reader you still didn't know more than Mia; you may have figured out the why, which she doesn't, but you don't know the details.
The series is developing along nicely. I like Carr's writing style, but I think there are some things that could improve. For instance - we know Mia misses Max and he was ripped away from her. We get it. We don't need to read how she shudders or feels sick every time she hears his name. Also, does every woman have curly hair? From my own life experience, natural curls/curly hair like Mia's isn't exactly prevailing. Molly and new chick Orion may be the only two to -not- have curls. But it's a detail I can't really remember. Just noticed that every woman seems to have curls. Maybe it's a Washington thing ;)
Despite how I feel Carr could tweak certain things with her writing style, I enjoyed the book tremendously. The only problem with reading a series is always having to wait on the next book. But I'm sure with the reveals we've had, the new questions raised and the explosive cliffhanger ending, book three isn't going to be a disappointment.

Embracing Hamilton (JackRabbit7 Series) by Sarah Jayne Carr

Book two in the Jackrabbit7 series Amelia is mourning the loss of her friends and adjusting to life knowing what occurred in her past. She is also faced with a tough decision to join the IA or try to live a normal life. If that is even possible.

Then she finds out that the Physician Coalition is going to release a deadly disease, and a child from her past is in danger. Soon Amelia is in action along with some of her friends to stop the coalition and her grandfather.

A very intense and thrilling non stop read. Amelia is at her best, more confident and determined. The plot thickens and I just did not know what the next page would reveal. A fantastic follow up to Revealing Hamilton, great as a stand alone. But I highly recommend reading both. I feel that those who love thrilling psychological stories will greatly enjoy Embracing Hamilton.

This is the second book in the JackRabbit7 series (not counting the prequel and Engaging Kennewick), and it more than matches the first! I could not put this book down, and I'm already hungry for more typing my review.

Amelia is becoming a tough woman, struggling with her emotions, her family situation and the potential of becoming an agent in a huge corporation. We experience Vegas through her eyes and, I for one, am now sworn off tequila. New players are entering the game and things are being twisted - notably, the two new editions to the IA family, Zephyr and Orion. I love Amelia - she's a feisty, believeble character, with flaws that all humans have.

It is a powerhouse of a ride. Action, suspense, drama, horror, science fiction and romance, this has it all. The writing style is clear and precise. I cannot wait for more, especially with that cliffhanger!

What could be worse than finding out your are physically connected to your evil, psychotic grandfather? Amelia finds out fast as she tries to come to terms with the death of her father (whom she thought was already dead) by her childhood friend Donovan (who has turned out to be evil too). The investigative organization her father belonged to want her to take over the local branch and she is so lost. Donovan tells her that the son of a friend who died because she knew Amelia has been taken by the grandfather and Amelia must save him. Donovan's parents are also missing. Intrigue, emotional squabbles, parents being killed, and health issues. Wow what a combination!

The second book of the series starts a little while after the first one. The characters’ lives have changed form their last adventure and you now read the pieces the hurricane “Marius” left.
In the beginning things are a little normal, but as the story continues events start to take place that appear to be innocent but escalade into serious very fast. New characters are added, that either held or not the characters, but they are all interesting, because as these books have already show me, all have a secret agenda.
The end leaves you openmouthed and with more questions. I loved it and I can’t wait to read the next of the series.

Embracing Hamilton is a nail bitingly edge of your seat read kind of read! The storyline was completely engrossing so I was unable to put the book down until I found out what happened in the end. By the time I reached the ending I was so mad that I couldn't turn the page because I wanted to know what Amelia was going to do she found out the news about her grandfather and how she was going to put a stop to him or if she'd be able to do so! LOL. Trust me, you want to read Embracing Hamilton!!!! I highly recommend purchasing and reading this book immediately!!
