Whip and Heather meet in an explosive moment on the banks of the Powder River. Both lonely, both drawn to one another, and both fight the attraction.
Cute story at first but it then seemed to be rushed. The whole story about his beloved wife was killed and then he proceeded to say that she didn't really show him love and affection and also how the day he returns he is instantly just in love with Heather just didn't flow with me. The author had us believe he was mourning his late wife and that he loved her very much and then as soon as he met Heather that just went out the window and it have the impression that his late wife didn't even exist. The story with the children coming into the picture was just not realistic to me. And the ending when the guy that shot his late wife just happen to come back and was killing her cattle and stalking around the property all I could think of was just why? What was the point? And he could absolutely not love Heather unless he caught the guy that he chased after for 5 years and as soon as he moved back to his ranch the guy just shows up? Nah.. just blah to me... the book was free so I am happy with that. Just wish authors would please stop rushing stories and actually sit down and take their time with actual plots.. thumbs down for me.

Summary: Wyoming Heather
He rode alone coming back after five years to an empty cabin, a run-down ranch, and a grave on a hill. A former Texas Ranger burnt out on life and afraid to love. Whip had spent five years hunting the man that took his wife’s life and left him to die.
Heather is a spirited, independent woman living alone on a ranch left to her by her parents. A woman doing a man’s work running a ranch that everyone said couldn’t be done, not in this untamed, vastly unsettled land, in the mid 1800’s. Not only was Heather doing it, but she was doing it well. The ranch was her life. It had everything she needed except water. But she’d managed to overcome even that. She stole it from a neighboring abandoned ranch watched over by a lonely cabin and a grave.
Heather’s life is devoted to her ranch and her love for animals. She is considered a healer, well known throughout the rough and untamed Wyoming country. She has a full life. Then why is it so empty?
Whip vowed he would take up his dream abandoned five years ago and make his beloved ranch profit and to put aside the sweet linger of all memories shared by him and his wife. The ranch would be a jealous mistress occupying his every though and every minute. He had no time or desire for a woman much less a pair of runaways from The Orphan Train stowaway in Whip’s wagon and onto the Powder River Ranch.
Whip and Heather meet in an explosive moment on the banks of the Powder River, reacting to one another like fire and wind. But, underlying the tangles over property rights, there’s a chemistry between the two. Both are lonely, both are drawn to one another, and both fight the attraction-Whip, because of memories he’s not ready to put to rest, and Heather, because of her stubborn resolve to succeed as a woman rancher.
But fate heeds no one or no thing. The criminal from Whip’s past reemerges in the present. Now, Heather is in danger and Whip stands, once again, on the cusp of loss. Fate shows a strong, willful woman, full of love and compassion, just what she’s been missing in her life. And it shows a calloused Texas Ranger that Heather and love does flourish on the Wyoming plains.
Review: Three point five stars
I’ve read a couple other books by this author and thoroughly enjoyed them, this one wasn’t up to par with her others. The development of the Characters and Plot were well done. The flow felt choppy at times as if this was a working copy and not the finished product.
Throughout the book there were grammatical and punctuation errors. I know all this plays in the rating I’m giving this book. Also, parts of the story line wasn’t believable. If this would have been the first book from this author I read I won’t try any of her other books, but since this was the third, I will let it slide as poor editing, as the plot was well thought out and was easy to follow even thought the choppy parts.
Conclusion:
Would I recommend this book to others no since I don’t recommend books riddled with errors; Would I read other books from this author? Yes since the others I’ve read before reading this were great.
This book had me laughing to the point of tears. The banter between the hero and heroine was barbed and laced with admiration, frustration and an undercurrent of love. The supporting characters were just as interesting as the main characters and added so much to the story. I found myself eagerly turning pages with the hope they wouldn’t soon reach the last one! Alas, all good things must come to an end - regretfully, for me, it was too soon. The story was delightful, clean, well written and a joy to read. I heartily recommend this book without reservation.
This is a very well-written, sweet, clean novel. There's not a lot of angst throughout, but that's great! The plot is simple and straight, Just like the ranchers of the time. It's a calming, upbeat, down-home story of friendships and love and protection of the vulnerable. I highly recommend it.
Loved this story. Heather and Whip's journey brings to light the struggle that people and especially women had in the wild west. It wasn't an easy life and to find love was even more of a challenge. Ms. Smallwood goes to great lengths to bring realism to how dangerous each day was with all it's perils. Enjoy!
Now, this one was a real surprise. I just wanted a quick sweet distraction with a garanteed happily ever after, before I returned to more exhausting and possibly depressing reads and then i stumbled upon this book. The characters are a lot of fun! Heather is spunky and sassy to the point of being rude (occasionally), but so is Whip. The ensemble of side characters are just as charming and unique (I just say Molly! xD). My only complaints are about the ending. Apart from that, I greatly enjoye the story.
Heather is a strong willed, kindhearted, hardworking ranching woman of the Circle C ranch. Her neighbor Whip, a former Ranger, returns back to his ranch after being gone 5 years. He finds she is diverting some water from a water source on his property to feed a pond on her ranch and he doesn't like it very much. He finds that Heather has sass and he seems fueled by it. This is a wonderful, clean, historic romance read.
Still enjoying Ms. Smallwood's western historical romances with strong characters facing the many challenges of living in a tough land. "Wyoming Heather" is a slow-building romance between likable people set in the mid-1800's in Wyoming ranch land. Although the romance is an underlying theme, I really enjoy all the nuanced details of ranch life during this time. Ms. Smallwood seems to do a lot of research and it lends depth and reality to the story.
Heather is a rancher. She is alone now that her parents have died. Whip is her neighbor who has been gone for five years. Heather has been using his river to water her land. When they meet they yell at each other about the dam she had built. This is a really good story that includes orphan children, a widowed woman that needs a home, and vengeance from a bad man.
I had to give 5 stars to this Western romance, for once the girl actually works her ranch! Carrying little Jesse in front of her on a days work horseback brought back the days spent hunting cattle with my nieces! A sweet, clean, and real romance!
A beautiful love story of two lonely people. One a hardened former Texas Ranger, the other, a young woman handling a small ranch all alone. Sparks fly as this crusty Ranger/rancher volumes with this sassy daughter of a Scot.
I enjoyed reading this book because of the fact that it was based on caring for others and showing how things really where for the cowboy and girls how hard life was
Good storyline, but it was cut short in too many places when it could've been balanced by extending details in the later chapters, instead, it was bulked up with veterinary knowhow.
The story is written well overall. There are a few inconsistencies. I struggled with the outlandish twist to the heroine's collection, but a fun read in all.
About Texas Ranger looking for the man who killed his wife. After five years goes home.Meets his neighbor .A good story to read .Well written.with lots of love caring and friends. Two children that need a home.Ending is quick.
Loved this book. The characters were brought to life and were entertaining. This book gives you a look into the life of another era with their challenges , goals and outcomes. Would recommend for anyone who likes books about life on the prairie.
This type of story is good but I couldn’t live on them daily. But rather sweet for an entertaining break. Strong heroine and macho hero and old fashioned Wild West setting.
