Immortal lovers, reunited after two centuries, struggle to overcome that which kept them apart. Unexpected enemies conspire against them, while old foes reveal a surprise.
Soul Reunion is a paranormal romance story and the first in a series. I was given a free copy of this novel for a review. As always, the review is honest and reflects my true opinions of the work.
I give this book a 4.5/5. Here is my breakdown:
Characters: 5/5. Lorraine does a fantastic job of creating characters. The world in which they exist is so rich, and the characters have such detailed storylines and history. From Soul Takers to Death Dealers to Vampires and Wizards, it’s a round-robin of wonderful design. The revelation of Maya’s secret curse cut to my soul, and Helena’s insecurities were all-too-realistic. Fantastic work!
Plot/Storyline: 5/5. The storyline was amazing! The action and romance scenes were all believable and integral to the plot. I sympathized so much with Goran and his desire to be with and protect his mate, the desire which drove the plot of this book. Watching them fight to be together against all odds and enlist some unorthodox allies to do so made this book well worth my time.
Flow: 4/5. Lorraine has done an excellent job of putting together a book that pulls one forward to keep reading. I finished this book in just under an hour (what can I say, I’m a speed reader!) and had absolutely no desire to put it down. There were no wasted words or scenes, and the points of view were kept clear and elegant. Normally, I’m not a fan of changing POV within a scene, but Lorraine did it well and with style.
Spelling/Grammar: 4/5. I noticed a VERY few typos in this work. There were a couple of missing quotes and maybe a misspelling or two, but absolutely nothing which interfered with my enjoyment of the work. Clearly well edited and proofread.
Summary: 4.5/5. Soul Reunion is the debut work of someone who should be writing for a living. The world practically ensnares you, daring you to take a step within it because, if you do, you’re likely to get lost. It was a treat to read, and I will be purchasing the next in the series soon. Thank you, Lorraine!
It was a true honour to read Soul Reunion before it comes out. I started reading and I couldn’t put the book down, I read up to 70% of it the first day! I paced myself after that so I could enjoy it more and I did. The characters in the story are interesting and their personalities are so different and rich that you will fall in love with them. Maya’s strength and dedication, Goran’s passion and resolve will melt your heart, and the fire they share will melt everything else around you! I must admit that this book has an amazing story line, awesome characters and the right amount of spice to make it very worth your time. I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a new series to fall in love with. I can’t wait for Soul Reflection, the second novel of the Soul Taker series.
It was a great pleasure to read this before release. This is my kind of novel and ticked all the boxes for me. This is not just your average vampire and demons story, but it does include the "regular" vampires we are more than used to. The story is about Maya (a death eater) and Goran (a soul taker), their great love for each other, and betrayal from somebody close to them. Goran is a delicious hunk, and Maya is a very beautiful woman. The love scenes are very steamy, but not too many scenes to distract you from the storyline, they are there to emphasise their great love with each other. There is also action and mystery behind what happened to Maya in the past. There are a few bloody scenes, but written in a good way that doesn't make me feel queasy. After all, you can't meet vampires without a good fight! For readers that love the para-romance books with demons, vampires, different universes, phasing, love, action etc, I would recommend this book. I can't wait for the next book, and I hope there will be plenty more. I have great respect for authors, having known this author briefly from work, to have a job, run a family and think about writing, it's amazing in my eyes. I am struggling with writing this review, but I hope others that read this novel enjoy it as much as I did, and enjoy pure escapism from our busy lives.
Where do I start sex, romance ,mystery this book leaves you wanting more. There is sexy vampires powerful necromancers and a new breeds the death dealers and soul takers. This book is no hearts and flowers it's action and suspense it keeps you guessing and wanting more.
I can't wait to read the next book and find out more about Archer. I'm not sure if the three brothers Stable Kane and Bay will get there story, I hope they do, but I have to say stable is one of my favourite so far.
I am so pleased i had the chance to read this book that I had been hearing about for a while now, and it didn't disappoint.
Lorraine Sears is a great writer Her book is definitely got me wanting more if you're looking for all these things then this book is definitely for you. Make sure you have a weekend put aside for this book as you won't be able to put it down.
*In the interest of full disclosure I know the author, although my review is honest and fair*
This story certainly hits the ground running and, after a slightly shaky start, the pace doesn't let up until the final chapter.
Edited down to trim all the fat there's hardly a wasted word here with everything going towards advancing the plot or building a larger world on which to hang a series off. And it's a series I'm definitely be interested in exploring further.
If there's room for improvement then it's with the characters motivations. Although they are all well built and believable, almost every single action in the story revolves around true love. It works within the context of this one story but I hope for more from future instalments.
Either way, there's enough here to ensure I'd be happy to pay to be a part of this world again.
Demons, vampires, hellhounds and soul takers -- this ticked all the boxes for me. Not to mention the story was immensely fun to read - I highly recommended it for any fans of para-rom. It's steamy, seductive with some badass fight scenes and fun characters to fall in love with. I was lucky enough to get my hands on an early release of this novel. It was a fast read -- ideal for curling up on the sofa with hot chocolate. The two main characters, Goran and Maya, are such an adorable (albeit dangerous) couple that you can't help but route for their reunion. The minor characters were really well thought out, too. Now, I can't wait for further books in the series so I can find out more about them, especially Paul and the Marshall. Give me more!
This is the most effort I have ever put into a book review. I endeavoured to be as constructively honest as possible. Especially for you Lorraine, as I know you wanted honest reviews, from friends as well as strangers. Here goes.....
Soul Reunion is a story of how passionate lovers, separated for two centuries, are reunited. The cause of their separation is revealed and overcome, while making new friends and discovering unknown enemies. Full of swooning romance, sizzling passion and gripping action, it is definitely a compelling page turner. I nearly called in sick to work, just so I could finish it uninterrupted!
The first third of this book is pretty much solid romance, then the nitty gritty of the story kicks in and it gets compellingly good. When it comes to plot and writing style, Ms Sears is definitely skilled. She doesn’t give away too much, too quickly, just enough to keep you compelled to turn the next page at a consistently perfect pace. The story and little connections are extremely well thought out and developed. Time and care has obviously been taken to create an original paranormal setting, complete with rich lore and uniquely conceived beings.
The main characters, Maya and Goran, are fully fleshed out, in more ways than one! On a much smaller scale, the supporting cast are also clearly defined, I suspect in preparation for their (hopefully) bigger roles in the spotlight in future instalments of the Soul Taker series. However, Maya and Goran weren’t my favourite characters. I’m drawn to Paul, probably because he seems more buttoned up than the rest, and takes his role in this realm seriously, which I appreciate. I also liked Elvi, young, shy, and magically skilled. As I read, I imagined them together, so I am pleased to find out that is on the cards. Not pleased I have to wait until book four though!
I think my favourite part is when we meet the pure vampire brothers Kane, Sable and Bay. Their contribution to the story adds another dimension and further character interest. Shows the Soul Taker race coming out of their own bubble and connecting with another race, keeping the reader interested.
On a personal note, Paranormal Romance isn’t a genre I’ve read in a long while, and after beginning Soul Reunion I remembered why I stopped. Para-Rom is very much a two sided coin for me. While I love all things paranormal and supernatural, I’m not a fan of romance, especially this level of romance. All that swooning, blushing, sighing and going weak at the knees simply makes me (personally) cringe. But that is just me. I fully appreciate there are many out there who love it! The success of Mills and Boon clearly illustrates the fact. Don’t get me wrong, I am not offended by sex scenes – au contraire! Excessive emotions getting in the way of passion just does my head in. Yes, I would describe myself as a practical, independent person who mostly keeps her emotions in check! So, for the romance part of this book I give it 2 stars, purely because it’s not my cup of tea. However, the paranormal element gets 4 stars. These paranormal beings are a refreshing change from the currently over popular vampires, were-creatures, fairies and witches. They are the reason I persevered through the romance, and will read the whole series. I’m especially interested how this paranormal world and its lore will develop.
An excellent first novel from Ms Sears. I would, however, gently suggest a little more input from the editor, and definitely more proof-reading. I was disappointed with the occasional, out of place word, or typo. Me? A perfectionist? Never! There were occasions where I felt let down by the adjectives used. English is a rich and colourful language. Strive for eloquence and paint masterpieces with words, similes and metaphors! However, I was too engrossed in the story to be bothered to stop, find a pen and paper, and make a note of these small blips in the flow. All part of the self-publishing learning curve.
(I deleted my profile for awhile so updating wth my reviews and reviews from my blog)
** Disclaimer – I was given a free copy of this book by the author in return for a honest review **
I loved the authors writing style and the way she drew you in with intrigue and promise. The characters are well fleshed out and I made near instant connections with them. She lets you into their heads and next thing you know your riding the train feeling their emotions. Even the supporting characters were fleshed out well and you could gain an insight into them. Perhaps helped by the fact that we get the odd chapter from someone else's pov. I have to confess out of everyone Sable is my favourite and I hope we come across him again in many more books in the series.
If your a fan of paranormal-romance books then you will love this. Not only is there your normal vamps, warlock/necromancers, lupines, shape-shifting, phasing, hellhounds and two new beings in form of death dealers and soul takers. There’s romance, mystery, action, some rather steamy scenes and some rather bloody scenes. There’s a bit for everyone and a whole lot to love. I like the fact that even with the steamy scenes, it isn’t the focus and in no way detracts from the story. Which is great for people who aren't into just the steamy bits. The story I feel is an original, interesting and refreshing change from what’s generally around to read. I could go on forever, more praising bits and bobs of this book, but I’d rather let you find out for yourself. I for one cannot wait for more from this series. There is so much potential for many more great stories from this bunch of diverse beings and their world.
"A must read five star book" Goran has gave me my new favourite quote!
