***AUTHOR’S NOTE: Although this novel precedes the Spellbound Trilogy, it is intended to be read AFTER reading the series as it reveals many important spoilers and plot twists that will diminish the reading experience of Spellbound.***
It's been three years since I read the Spellbound trilogy. I remember I really liked it, and I gave my friend copies of the books so she could read them as well. We went on a New Years vacation together last year, and she was in the process of reading the last book so we buddy read some of it together. Doing this rekindled and reminded me of my love of the trilogy, so when I heard of the existance of Lovespell, a prequel to the trilogy, I wasted no time in buying it.
It's now August, and I've read over thirty other books since then, but I've finally done it! I read Lovespell, yaaay :).
So of course it was really weird diving back into this world that I haven't visited in a long time. It was even weirder that this was told from the point of view of Calista's (heroine in the Spellbound Trilogy) MOM. Obviously as an adult, Cali's mom (Gabriella) was mature and stuff, so that's how I remembered her. In Lovespell we see Gabby when she was a really immature, stupid, rash, crazy teenager.
I feel like a lot of people might be turned of by Gabby a lot in the beginning because of her personality and how she acts. It didn't bother me that much, because I was always wanting to know what will happen next because the story moved along nicely. There were a lot of little things from the Spellbound trilogy and references that I liked, though of course I don't remember a lot of them.
As a warning, this book has some mature scenes like violence and gore (of which I can see as being scary to younger audiences), and characters have sex multiple times.
If that warning doesn't matter to you or turn you off I would really recommend this book to readers who liked the Spellbound trilogy. It was really satisfying, and it's not a novela, it's its own legitimate complex story. I know a lot of times little companion books like this can be unsatisfying *cough*Fairest*cough*, but I really had a good time reading this.
