The Naughty Never Die

Rate this book
The Beauty--a chronic people pleaser who's had enough of her goody-two-shoes life

Since her mother's untimely death, crusader Josephine Callahan has served as New Jersey's First Lady. Acting as her father's official hostess in the governor's mansion is tantamount to living in a fishbowl, which makes S-E-X extremely difficult. On the brink of a nervous breakdown, frustrated Josie loses her usual good sense along with her cool and lets her assemblyman boyfriend sweet-talk her into an impromptu romantic getaway--something she would never consider if she had a clue someone is trying to kill her.

The Beast--an incurable bad boy who refuses to admit beneath his scars lurks a hero.

A deliberately twisted message, via the governor's spiteful assistant, misleads ex Special Forces officer, DJ Ryder, as to the true objective of his freelance assignment. He's told to, not only track down the governor's classy daughter and hold her in protective custody, but to also teach her a lesson by letting her believe she's been kidnapped.

When Josie discovers the scarred, but still sexy, badass has played her for a fool, she retaliates by feigning a raging case of Stockholm syndrome, teasing the brute until all he can think of is the 'hold her' part of his orders. How can Ryder concentrate on keeping Josie safe when he's busy avoiding the danger she poses to his heart?

NOTE: This book has an extra high sensuality level and is not for those seeking a 'sweet' romance.

The cover might indicate a cutesy piece of fluff, but The Naughty Never Die is anything but! Josie and Ryder had amazing chemistry (not to mention incredibly hot sex scenes), but the evolution of their relationship felt natural and unforced. The scenes between the prim and proper lady and the down and dirty mercenary were both funny and moving at times, and when the two are trying to outmaneuver each other, I literally was laughing out loud! The suspense element was so well done and full of twists and turns and so many different players and layers that it kept me glued to the page in anticipation. This truly is a book that has a little bit of something for everyone, from raunchy sex-fueled orgy flashbacks to murder, lies and mayhem. Brilliantly done Ms. Kellogg!

The title and cover of this book are very deceiving ... this is a great thriller! Okay, I guess it could easily fall into the romantic thriller genre, but the thriller part is much better than most classified as such. There is romance, and family drama in more than one family; there is sex, and while some of it is not of the consenting kind, and quite a bit of it of rather strange kinds, none of it is overly graphic. In other words if you are seeking smut, this isn't the book for you. On the other hand, if you are seeking a thriller, with romance and plenty of humor, pick it up immediately.

The Governor's oldest daughter has taken over First Lady duties after her mother's death. Basically she is the epitome of a goody two shoes, but decides to sneak away for a weekend away from all the eyes at the governor's mansion, not knowing that her life is in danger. Through some twisted communication, the former seal hired to protect her has been given orders to make her think she has been kidnapped.

There are really no dull moments in this one, and some fantastically written characters. One of the bad guys becomes obvious pretty early one, but trust me you will be surprised as the story goes on, and the threats become more chilling, just who all is involved in the conspiracy.

I would have to say my favorite genre is thrillers, especially psychological thrillers, but that being said, romances are definitely a very slightly guilty pleasure and at times I end up reading more of those than anything else when I'm in a mood. This book brought them both together better than most any other I can think of, certainly moreso than any in recent memory.

I found this as an Amazon freebie, and after having been burned on a number of those, this one reminded me why I continue to add them to my reading list. There are some fantastic gems out there!

DJ Ryder has been hired to scare the First Lady of NJ, Josie, (her dad is the Governor) into taking her security seriously, so he kidnaps her and her dog (despite his fear of dogs) and takes her to his family's cabin to look after her. Meanwhile, accidents are happening at the Governor's mansion and they are unsure if Josie is the target or just all of the First Family of NJ. Betrayals, deceptions, blackmail and some really unpleasant crimes come to play while Ryder tries his hardest to keep her safe without falling in love with her. Unfortunately for him, she's not giving him a choice.

I like this book so much better than the first and if I had read the books in order, I probably wouldn't have read this one. First of all, there's a mystery and lots of action. Secondly, the characters are more interesting - he has a horribly scarred face and some serious mommy issues, she's just uptight and repressed. I liked that I didn't fully know who the villain was until the end. However, once again the author's issues with group sex/promiscuity etc come into play (see my review for Hypnotic Seduction for more on that).

Warning: This book contains serious sex-related themes: rape, group sex and mild BDSM.

I have such mixed feelings about this book. The love scenes are well written and very steamy. However, every female character in this book is called a slut, whore, tramp, etc. on just about every page. In the beginning of the book it seems the author is trying to advocate for women but by the end I just felt bad for them. They are all 'nymphomaniacs' with little to no redeeming qualities except the main female character and the sister of the main male character. It got to the point where it was just icky. This book turns out to be a thriller but I think the author should just write horror stories because a lot of the descriptions of rape and sexual assault (of which there are a few) were well written enough to make it really hard to finish this book.

The premise was far-fetched, but fun. Unfortunately, this book failed the "lets Anna get a good night sleep" test and instead popped over into the "actually messes up Anna's sleep", so I stopped reading. The problem? In a fluffy romance novel, there's a pretty awful rape scene that just underscores the way the author throws weird sex scenes in throughout the book to titillate rather than move the plot and character development along. I stopped reading about 80% of the way through.

What a great book. One minute I was laughing out loud and the next I was holding my breath. It's a little different than L.L. Kellogg's last book because, while this romance is just as hilarious, there's a serious, dark thriller element that any romantic suspense reader will enjoy. The two different sides of the plot create an entertaining roller-coaster read. Highly recommended.

Better than the first!

This book was way better than the first book in the series titled Hypnotic Seduction. It's been a year or so since I read that first book but I loved it and didn't think it could be better. This book has suspense and leaves you ready to learn what's going to happen next. You won't be able to put it down.

This is the second Laurie Kellogg book I've read and man-oh-man I did not see this coming! There is humor, romance and suspense! The skeletons were falling so fast and furious I almost couldn't keep up! Definitely worth the read!

I loved it! The characters were great. I enjoy reading romances when they are combined with suspense. I will definitely be on the look out for more books by Laurie Kellogg, she is now my favorite author. Don't pass up a chance to read her books.

Dang, I did not see this one coming. it is slightly over the top and fairly crude but a very exciting and entertaining love story. I liked the characters, even Lily. She made the BEST bad guy, bar none. Fun stuff. I also may have to soak my brain with bleach from the one scene.....uck.

Good tension to go along with the steam

I enjoyed this book a lot—didn’t take me long to read it all. The characters were fleshed out really well. The mystery of who was responsible for the attempts on Josephine’s life kept you uncertain (although you’ll have a pretty clear idea) until the reveal. Very enjoyable!

Josie and Ryder's relationship doesn't begin under the best of circumstances. Her father is governor and when her mother dies she takes over as his first lady. Ryder has his own issues with his scarred face from a dog mauling when he was a child and he harbers guilt for his mother's death that was not really his fault. Ryder was supposed to "kidnap" Josie as she tries to steal away for a private weekend with her boyfriend. A series of unfortunate events happen that eventually throw these two into each others' arms.

You almost immediately fall for Ryder, especially as his own story unfolds and you find out why he thinks his mother's death is his fault. You also discover why his relationship with his stepmother is so strained and why he has such a close relationship with his stepsister.

As for Josie you wonder what her deal really is. You meet the governor who's waiting to find out if he'll be the next attorney general but you also meet Josie's sister Brittany who has an agenda all her own.

The "bad guys" in this book are almost comical in how they can't seem to "get the job done" when it comes to simply killing someone. However toward the end of the book you will find one of the criminals who is extremely sick and twisted. The scene is not for the faint of heart and while the author did not go into descriptive detail of the crime, you should be able to use your imagination to fill in the blanks.

Take it for the long plane ride or that cross country trip.

The Naughty Never Die by L L Kellogg was a fun read! The title is a bit of a take off on a Billy Joel Song (Only the Good Die Young). The story was free and I "bought" it from Amazon.

Josephine, the Governor of New Jersey's daughter acts as his hostess. She is considered to be hot but untouchable. Her political views do not always win her political votes, but she perseveres. Her boyfriend was older and a councilman. He convinces her to "run away" for a weekend with him, so they can have time alone without all the coverage that follows her everywhere. However, she is kidnapped on route.

DJ believes he is not the man for any "good" lady. He takes various protection jobs, but sometimes his jobs are more unique. He is paid to "kidnap" Josephine.

For a free book on Kindle, I did not notice the amount of editing mistakes I often see. That alone is a major plus. I did wish that there was some clearer definition of when scenes change within chapters. A couple of times, I needed to go back and clarify if the characters were the same - only to figure out that the scene had changed and other characters were speaking.

I liked the characters. They grew and changed more quickly than I would have thought, but it wasn't a long drawn out book. The book is intended for a mature audience who can handle some graphic scenes.

I enjoyed the first 140 pages or so of LL Kellogg's The naughty Never Die. The premise of a fake kidnapping of the governor's daughter, Josephine Callahan, by an ex Special Forces officer, DJ Ryder, starts off as amusing and fun (although I think it has been done before).

But then this book takes a very dark turn. I don't think I expected a girly, pink covered book to be so dark and grim. At least one character has to degrade and humiliate herself to save the others. There is nothing amusing about a 47 year old mother being sexually violated and abused at gunpoint.

This book also has some very steamy stuff. There is a nymphomaniac, orgies and homosexuality thrown into the mix. So be ready for that.

I'm giving it three stars because it started off so promisingly but then turned disturbing, dark and confusing.

I've been a huge fan of Ms Kellogg's for a while now but I think I'd have to say that this was my favorite book of hers. It was so exciting & in more ways than one. It was chock full of suspense & action as well as white-hot sexual tension & heat.

However, this book was so much more than just that. It was wonderfully intelligent, witty, sweet, touching & deep. I loved the psychological aspects of the story. The characters felt real & easy to relate to.

This book made me gasp, laugh aloud, sigh, pant, hate & love. I really cared about these complex characters & was very sorry when it ended. I wanted to stay in their lives & continue enjoying them. I never wanted it to end.

I strongly recommend this great book, especially to intelligent & open minded people who can appreciate all of the nuances without being offended by any language or sex.

Good read,HEA and no cliffhanger

This is the 2nd book I’ve read by this author and it was a good read. I enjoyed this one much more than the previous book in the series. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was, in the first book, there were characters who you wanted to know what happened to them. I thought the next book in the series would be about the next couple but it wasn’t. I actually enjoyed this one more than the first book, just slightly disappointed it was about a whole new set of characters. I did like that some of the characters from the first were mentioned in this one and was especially happy that Lily and Nora got what was coming to them. This has an HEA and no cliffhanger but it just leaves one wondering what has happened to the characters you still want to know more about (Steve and Britt, Bryce/ Callie).

This romantic suspense story is about a "never do wrong" politician's daughter who basically goes off the wagon and when she decides to let her hair down gets kidnapped. Well, she thinks it's a kidnapping thanks to erroneous information. It really is an attempt to keep her safe until they learn the identity of who wants her dead.

The sadistic brains behind this is someone close to home (trying very hard not to spoil the story). I gave it 3 stars because of the kinky parts of the story which I suspect would rival that of 50 Shades of Gray (which I didn't read as I'm just not into that). I did like trying to figure out who was responsible but would have been much happier with less of the graphic sex orgy scenes.

Oh goodness. This book was horrible. Even if you got it for free like me, do NOT read this stupid, horrible book. I think my intelligence level dropped to unbelievable lows. It was like a really poorly written soap opera, made for some crappy channel that no one even knows exists. My eyes hurt so bad from rolling them so often. It was cliched and dirty and dirty not in a good way. It started out not too terrible, but then just got worse and worse....and worse. I even finished it just to see if it could get worse. And YES, it could.

I promise, I will not make fun of anyone for liking this book. Well, not on Goodreads, that is.

'The Naughty Never Die' is definitely a title that gives you an impression of what this book should be, yet it's so much more. The storyline was incredibly intriguing. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down. I loved the way this story played out. Full of action, suspense, mystery and some hot and steamy scenes. Josie is a great lead. I loved her compassion and her morals. She definitely surprised me with her transformation. Ryder is an awesome and sexy bad-ass. I loved watching his transformation as well. I haven't yet read book one in this series, but I wasn't lost with the storyline. This is definitely a series I'll follow. Well written. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended read.

Another home run by Laurie Kellogg!
Half way through this story I was getting a bit frustrated with trying to keep track of all the different twists and characters, it was starting to feel like one of the Soap Operas, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Plus, every time it looked like the main characters were going to be done in, the title helped me realize they were going to be ok. One other interesting tidbit...there was an awful lot of psycho analyzing being done by different people in this story. But, in the end, that is what really saved the day and allowed true love to win!

I liked that some of the characters crossed over from the first book. The only thing I didn't like, and this goes for the first book as well, is that there is a secondary love story going on in the background that made you think the next book would follow their story...and then the next book is about totally different people. That has nothing to do with the story, mind you, but it was kind of disappointing to not find out how those characters ended up. Maybe they will be further in the series. The books are very well written and I look forward to reading the next one in the series!

Abduction Charade

DJ Ryder was hired by The Governor to protect the Governor’s daughter. As a former Military ex Special Forces officer with sniper capabilities, he may be rough around the edges but one you could trust to follow through on all his responsibilities at all costs.

Little did he know when his military buddy highly recommended him for this secretive position, that his skills would be put to the test in more ways than one.

Suspense, mystery, murder, and romance, thrown in with laugh out loud characters make this book so enjoyable.

I almost DNF'd when reading this book, because it took me a long time to really get into the story and actually begin to care about any of the characters. Though I guess that could be due to the fact that at the beginning of the story practically everyone seems cold and guarded to each other. It was difficult to like or even connect to anyone. But the more the characters warmed up to each other, the more I warmed up to the story. I'm glad I persisted through reading it, because I did end up enjoying it in the end.

Beauty IS only skin deep...

W g at a sweet love story, sprinkled with murder, mayhem and an abundance of sex crazed lunacy. Josie has a secret she hasn't remembered yet. Lily is a sneaky and conniving witch. Ryder and Steve have their hands full - literally and figuratively... and someone wants Josie dead. Jose's dad is waiting for Senate approval to become the next New Jersey Attorney General. The question is who will do anything to prevent Josie's memory from returning and ruin all kinds of planning covering the "Perfect" murder...

Not Your Average Fairy Tale

"Captive Seduction" is a modern twist on Beauty and the Beast with some witty, funny and sometimes wicked dialogue. There were even a few belly laughs. I enjoy a well done romantic thriller and this second book in The Seduction series fills the bill for me. The main characters are engaging and almost as flawed as the rest of us. The plot premise is, if not unique, certainly different than I've come across. I read it in one sitting and totally forgot a conference call because I was so captivated by the story. Oops!

I absolutely love Kellogg’s books and did not hesitate to buy this one the moment I saw it was available. I could not put it down. The characters were funny and touching, sweet and brass, and absolutely perfect for each other. I tend to stay away from romantic suspense books simply because I think so many of them fall short on one aspect, either not enough romance or not enough suspense. This book was a great blend, and there was no disappointment for me.

It took me a while to finish this novel, not because I didn't like it, but because life kept getting in the way of my reading.

At first I wasn't a fan of Ryder because he doesn't like dogs, but after it was explained I could forgive him for it. The rest of the book was pretty well read and kept me involved with the story. Very intricate plot that I didn't quite guess the villain of until the last couple of chapters.

Could have finished this book in half the time if all the sex was left out. Seems like everyone was oversexed. This book seemed to have too many plots going at the same time. I did skip pages to get to the STORY and out of the bedroom and back seats of cars. Read the prologue of another Kellogg book and it starts off horny again.

No thanks.

I had to agree with KYLARA JENSEN's review.

This story is not for the faint of heart. It is spicy. Governors daughter is "kidnapped" to save her life. There's romance, drama, suspense, raunchiness, friendships etc. Good read if you can handle it.
The warning should be more specific. This book contains hot sex, rape, orgies and homosexual activity.
