S.E. Smith is an internationally acclaimed, New York Times and USA TODAY Bestselling author of science fiction, romance, fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary works for adults, young adults, and children. She enjoys writing a wide variety of genres that pull her readers into worlds that take them away.
It's been a while since I read anything in this series. I had forgotten how perfect Smith's heroes were. On the flip side, I had forgotten how annoying her heroines are with their pushing away and denial.
Is it wrong that I wanted Sara to just "hurry up and get over it" already? Now, I know, in real life after a trauma like that, I would NEVER expect her to heal quickly, but when reading I just don't have the patience for the push/pull especially when she had the perfect hero right in front of her. Then once she accepts him as her mate, things happened like the speed of light and it was over. So, while this was a good edition to the series and man....was Jaguin absolutely PERFECT, it was not my favorite.
I can't wait for the twin's story. Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer....
5 Stars! I love S.E. Smith stories so much. It feels so good to come back to her wonderful dragon world. She is one of my favorite authors and I’m guaranteed a delightful trip to my comfort zone. This is not my favorite in the series, but delivers all the same. Wonderful ending and so impatience for the next one.
ABSOLUTELY CAPTIVATING !!! Title: Jaguin's Love Series: Dragon Lords of Valdier Author: S.E. Smith Designation: Book Eight of Series, Full-Length(181 Pages) Can Be Read As Standalone Sci-Fi/Paranormal Romance, NO Cliffhanger Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars***** I adore action/adventure, love science fiction, obsessed with anything paranormal, totally smitten with sexy aliens, and completely addicted to romance but give me the perfect combination of them all and I'm in heaven! And that's exactly what S.E. Smith has delivered to her readers with Jaguin's Love, the riveting eighth release in her bestselling Dragon Lords of Valdier Series. Be still my heart! I've been a diehard S.E. Smith fan for several years and have read almost her entire library of published work but I must admit, The Dragon Lords of Valdier is, without a doubt, my favorite of all her series. I anxiously await each new release and Smith never disappoints. Smith is a remarkably gifted storyteller who excels at creating highly imaginative and vividly depicted worlds populated with fascinating, diverse and unique characters who literally explode from the pages, capture your imagination, tug on your heartstrings and completely steal your heart. I always know I'm guaranteed a wondrous, mind-blowing adventure before I ever read the first line and Jaguin's Love was no exception. The narrative was fast-paced, well-crafted, well-edited and beautifully written in the third person with primary his and her perspectives from the two protagonists. As in many of the books of this series, we also see an occasional peek into the thoughts of the Goddess Aikaterina which I find truly fascinating since it's actually her character who sets the stage for many of the stories. She may not be the entity actually controlling the outcome of fate but she is responsible for setting into motion many of the events that will help determine the future of the characters in these stories. I identify her as a sort of guardian angel for all the species of the galaxy who holds a special affection for the Valdier because they once saved her life. It's truly unique and quite intriguing. The dialogue was smart, seductive, well-executed, at times laugh-out-loud funny, and flowed effortlessly. But without a doubt, my favorite component of every Smith book is the cast of captivating, engaging and unconventional characters. They are the heart and soul of every story. Who doesn't love sexy dragon-shifters, right? But these dragon-shifters are not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill shifters! They're sexy alien warriors made up of three separate but connected entities, their two-legged human-like man form, their shifted dragon alter personas and their golden symbiots which are gifted to each warrior at birth by the Goddess. The symbiots usually take the shape of some type of animal but are also worn for protection, and can change into any form, both animate and inanimate, and can be anything from armor, to weapons, to jewelry, and even a spaceship! Oh my! Although they are connected, physically as well as mentally, each has its own individual characteristics and voice. And they couldn't be more different...and at times, absolutely hilarious. These dragons are so darn cute and the conversations they have with their two-legged alters are hysterical. The entire concept is fascinating, ingenious and completely entertaining. But where the problem lies is all three entities must agree upon a single female in order for her to be accepted as their true mate, making the choice seem more a curse than a blessing, and made all the more difficult by the shortage of eligible females. Oh my! I was immediately drawn into the story by the two protagonists, beautiful human botanist Sara Wilson, and brave Valdier dragon-shifter warrior Jaguin. I fell in love with Jaguin and Sara when they were originally introduced in an earlier book. These two characters captured my imagination as well as my heart, and I could hardly wait to read their story. In reading several of the reviews for this book, I noticed several were critical of this story with the main reason being the lack of a tangible villain and a lot of shootem' up action. They felt something was missing. They couldn't have been more wrong. There was absolutely nothing redundant or generic about this story. The true villain in this story was PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and it's so much more frightening than any flesh and blood bad guy. It leaves hopelessness, despair, and destruction in the lives of those it affects beyond the worst nightmares imaginable. Obviously, some readers missed the point of this story completely. The true meaning was not lost on me since I am also one of the victims claimed by this disorder and suffered for many years. Possibly, that's the reason I recognized the true villain of this story. I implore you; please don't allow a few negative reviews to influence you into not reading this book. You will have missed an emotionally moving story about a young woman who experienced a neglected childhood, felt unloved and unwanted, and her struggle to survive, move forward in life and find love. But in order to slay her personal demons, she must overcome the aftereffects of a horrific ordeal while conquering the most frightening villains of all... the ones who appear in our minds and haunt not only our waking thoughts, but also our dreams. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some steamy, dreamy love scenes. Although this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading all the books of the series in sequence to enrich the overall experience. The author does a great job of giving ample backstory but there are some parts of the story where the reader may feel like they have missed key elements of the storyline if they haven't read the previous books. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! Was I entertained? Completely! I was glued to my chair, white knuckling my ereader, my heart fluttering wildly in my chest with the pages flying as quickly as the time! I laughed, I cried, and my heart broke into pieces, but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained! I loved it! If you're looking for a captivating sci-fi romp filled to the brim with sexy aliens, heart-pounding adventure, heartbreaking angst, fiery passion, heartwarming romance, steamy sex, and the indomitable promise of hope, then you will, most assuredly, enjoy Jaguin's Love. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Like many of his brethern, Valdier warrior Jaguin had all but given up hope of ever finding his true mate. Unmated females on Valdier had grown fewer and fewer over the centuries. It had become nearly impossible for a Valdier warrior to find their one true mate, leaving them with feelings of great despair, all the while knowing that without a true mate, their dragons would eventually drive them mad. Jaguin understood this hopelessness all too well as evidenced by the increasing difficulty he was experiencing in controlling his dragon. He would soon have to admit to the elders his time had come to move on to the next life... before he went mad and hurt someone. Jaguin was known as a great warrior on Valdier and accompanying his leader's brother, Creon Reykill, and his human mate, Lady Carmen Walker-Reykill, to Earth most likely would be his last mission. Although this was his first trip to Earth, it was not the first time the Valdier had visited the planet. Zorn Reykill, King of Valdier, had made an emergency landing on the strange world after escaping captivity during an attempt by a group of traitors to steal the throne and start a war between the Valdier, Curizan and Sarafin. He had been injured and was rescued by beautiful Earth female Abby Tanner who miraculously turned out to be his true mate. The human race was a new species to the Valdier and Zoran's discovery had given his people renewed hope for the future. Since that time, all four of the other Reykill princes along with several Valdier warriors had also found human mates. Jaguin was here on Earth with Creon Reykill and a group of Valdier warriors to aid Creon's mate, Lady Carmen Reykill, locate and kill the man responsible for the murder of her first mate and unborn child. It was Jaguin's job to help protect Lady Carmen, made all the more difficult by her currently being pregnant with twins. But that had not been the only reason for his desire to visit Earth. He had hoped that by coming to Earth on this mission, the Goddess would bless him by allowing him to find his mate among the humans just as all the Reykill brothers had. Unfortunately, during his time on Earth, none of the human females had stirred his dragon or excited his symbiot. It was time to admit failure and give in to the inevitable. His time was over. He would never find a mate in this lifetime... or would he? Surprisingly, he would, but never in a million years could he have imagined the pain and anger he experienced once he saw the beautiful human woman, bound, beaten, tortured and very near death... a female who was his true mate. After hundreds of years of searching, had he finally found the one female who could complete him as well as save both him and his dragon, only to lose her before they even had a chance to be together? Was he too late to save her? We'll see!
Beautiful botanist Sara Wilson has always been a survivor but she now clung to life by only a thread. She had lost track of the time along with the number of beatings she's received at the hands of Columbian drug lord Cuello, her cruel and obviously demented captor. But she knew she had to hang on. Sara had always put the needs of others ahead of her own and she had to protect the other young woman, Emma, who was also a prisoner, and so very fragile, in mind as well as body. Sara had never been afraid of death. At this point, it would have been a welcome relief, but that didn’t mean she wanted to die. She'd survived the horrors of being unloved and abandoned as a child; surely, she could survive this. She desperately wanted to live, but she was too weak. Hee body could not withstand much more of the punishment as Cuello and his men whipped and tortured her repeatedly, all the while calling her by another woman's name, Carmen Walker. Whoever this Carmen Walker was and whatever she had done, it was obvious Cuello wanted her dead and was using Sara and Emma as look-alike substitutes to exact his punishment and revenge. As she felt her consciousness fading and her life force escaping, her final thoughts were those of regret... never again being able to work with her beloved plants and leaving Emma to suffer her fate alone. She had no idea that fate was about to intervene and offer her something she thought she'd never find. Surely, her mind was playing tricks on her because suddenly she could no longer feel the pain. She was surrounded by the comforting feelings of peace, safety, and warmth. It had to be trick... or had she been rescued by someone... or possibly by something? Dragon-shifters, golden symbiotic animals, spaceships and wondrous alien planets could never be real, right? After being abandoned by her mother, then suffering a lonely neglected childhood of being unloved by the only family she knew, and now enduring a harrowing ordeal at the hands of a madman, she had built a wall around her heart to protect her from ever being hurt again. She would never be able to conquer her inner demons and fall in love with anyone, much less a huge handsome alien who turned into a frightening dragon and had a golden symbiot as a companion, right? Hmm... We'll see!
Giving this 3 stars, feels as if I'm betraying all the other books I genuinely gave three stars. So, this was a 2.5 star read.
Having read so many of the books in this series, this had nothing new to offer, the only saving grace were the moments when the dragons talked. So cute!
Anyway, this will probably be the last book I ever read from this series even if more are released.
Sara Smith is abucted (rescued) during a climatic scene from Cornering Carmen. This book features Sara's story.
Sara had been a victim suffering repeated horror and abuse at the hands of Cuello. She was as close to death as a person could be ... until the Valdier warriors, with Carmen at the forefront, show up. Carmen has returned to Earth with the intent to exact justice on the man who had killed her human husband and unborn child. To finally put closure to her past and move on with her future with Creon. This story picks up when it's found that Sara (Cuello's current victim) is Jaquin's true mate.

Another installment in the contemporary sci-fi Dragon Lords Of Valdier series that cannot be read as a stand alone as the series builds off previous installments. Features a previous minor character who now has his chance to claim an Earth female as his true mate, if only he, his symbiot, and dragon, can get past the physical and mental trauma she's suffered.
I love this author and her style of writing. She's on my auto buy list because she features strong female lead characters who don't surrender to their fate or men just because of stereotypical status norm expectations society in general has placed on them.
That being said, this story just isn't one of my favs. The author has taken on the task of featuring a female with PTSD symptoms. To balance a believable story line, mental illness diagnosis, evolving romance, alien abduction, and make it work isn't easy. Maybe that's why this book just didn't work for me because the author failed to provide a cohesive believable premise, plot, story.
This book lacks a story other than to provide a back drop for an evolving romance between Jaquin and Sara. That's really my take away. So, while I appreciated the journey for these two I really wanted (craved) some real meat and potato story line content. IMHO the author should have pulled more action adventure and emphasis on the skills of the main characters to have made this work. The one memorable scene that did utilize Sara's skill set was more awkward than cohesive to the flow of the story.
I also felt the individual scenes were fragmented and choppy. This wasn't as big of an issue in that the author was able to include more individual scenes that pulled in cameo appearances of characters from previous installments BUT it was noticeable none the less.
As for the erotic/adult content. The story features an evolving romance so of course there's hot steamy bedroom action. FYI: it's a no brainer that Jaquin needs to overcome Sara's issues to progress to this stage of the romance so readers should realize these types of scenes don't factor into the equation until the later portion of the book.
The promising part of this story is that the author has set the stage for future installments (sorry, no spoilers so the potions of the story that I base this on will remain unwritten) and that makes me happy as I was seriously concerned that this series had reached it's saturation point for viability. Maybe that's the intent of this story. To bridge the series into a new direction. Guess it remains to be seen and only S.E. Smith really knows. :D
Sara was abused by a man who held her captive because she looked like Carmen. Jaquin was one of the Valdier warriors who rescued her and Emma. He knows that she is his true mate. He also knows that she needs time to heal after her ordeal both physically and mentally. Even with his dragon pushing him, he is willing to give her all of the time she needs. I liked the fact that we got to see where Jaquin came from instead of just the ship and the palace. I also liked the way it leads into the next book. I am enjoying reading this series one right after the other.
While this story was ok, I didn't really care to know the story of Sara and Jaguin. I liked them as side characters but really didn't care to know the full story which is why this ended up being only 2.5 stars for me. I just didn't really care for this book and kind of wish I had skipped it instead.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
3.5 stars (I guess I will round it up to 4... why not?) Wavering between marking it 3 or 4 stars.
Pretty good story but not close to a favorite of mine in this series. Sweet, but not much action considering how this series began... and a little too much angst going on too long for this poor sociopath to take. There was a part where there was an important meeting as if something big was going to happen, but it was just dropped... why even do that at all?
I did like the ending, even though it's a
CLIFFHANGER
and since I read almost all of this author's books, I'll get the next one for sure to find out what happens next. Lord only knows when/if there will be any conclusion to what was started in the last chapter, with Emma, and the twin dragons.
I also love the way that rather nice cover ties in to something special that happens in the story.
It quickly became clear that this book didn't have much in the way of plot. It was mostly just vignettes of two people learning to trust and love each other. I was okay with that - the characters were likable, I was totally fascinated by the male lead with his 2 alternate personality/creatures and the relationship was sweet.
But the the dragon sex was just too much for me. It included way too much description of dragon penis, dragon orgasm and a whole bunch of things I never wanted to know about dragons doing the horizontal mombo. TMI! I'm afraid the author lost me after that. I was so squicked that I read the rest of the book in a rush and was thrilled to put it down.
I don't know how she does this book after book. I'm just as hooked now as I was on book one. Each dragon, and each female have different strengths and weaknesses. But the love of a man and a dragon and of course we won't forget honey. Wow. This is another hit, a constant page turner. Keep them coming.. Love them.
Absolutely loved this one. I adore the Dragon lords of the Valdier series and I can't wait to read the next instalment. Well written shapeshifter sci-fi romance. The character's were excellent and loveable.
So this starts out with Sara having a strong will and drive to survive. She's been brought down before but here in her mind as a will to live and even help the more delicate seeming woman that is captured with her. Jaguin, whom I loved from Trisha's book, is a tracker. He is very taken with the human females when Trisha takes them on a merry trip through the woods and is unable to track her. Then he is tasked with helping with Carmen, so ends up a little in love with the concept of finding a human mate, especially since his dragon is so on the edge. When he recognized his mate as the one being tortured by the man who nearly killed Carmen and had killed her husband, he is beyond angered but also ready to help her back to health.... only that doesn't happen.
Instead the strong personality of Sara becomes a self questioning, I might be attracted to him but I need my space to heal, even with it hurting the other being, over and over. And Jaguin, instead of being allowed like all the other mates, to be with his mate, he gets called away to "work". He is so on edge and about to flip out to the point of death, yet instead of saying, yes, help your mate out and bring her into this world, we get long absences and not there when she has issues. Sorry this just didn't work for me and ended up killing any romance, over and over. Then at the end, trying to give some personality to Sara, we bring in her PhD in horticulture and she How does this make any sense? And it was her suggestion only for That was it. She had no personality after the initial save and then was an idiot with her PhD in plants. Yet she saves the day last minute. OMG how ridiculous was this.
I really liked the beginning of this series as the women seemed interesting, kick ass, and mostly strong personalities. At around Carmen's book the character start loosing all those traits even though there are little hints that they could have them. Might be the last for this series.
i have read all of the DRAGON LORDS Of VALDIER by buying all of them at once , up to the Christmas ones. I dont think that this particular story was in the bundle, but i am trying to review each one separately. In this story Jaguin has found his love from CARMEN'S story in the previous book. Carmen was able to go BACK to EARTH to avenge her 1st husband, and un- born child's death. With the help of her husband Creon ,and several trusted friends, Jaguin among them, they descend down to Javier Cuello's compound and find two women who have been beaten and abused in Carmen's place. Cuello had searched high and low but could not find the ex-agent, Not knowing that she was no longer on EARTH . Jaguin knew Immediately that the girl being whipped was his mate, and took steps to insure her safety. Sara was mentally and physically tormented and abused , She needed to heal, but was afraid of this Warrior who made her feel things she did not want to feel ever again . So things between them get worse before they get better, but Jaguin has a lot of help and advice and determination on his side. His Symbiot and dragon are kind of like comic relief ( like all the adolescent Dragons seem to be ) and although there are many heartbreaking , heart-wrenching moments, there is also Strength and understanding, and most of all Love . Although I felt that this was a good story , it seemed to me that there was a formula that was followed, and little deviation from that formula , and that is way i am giving it 4 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed it immensely , but there wasn't a whole lot of surprises. I will be reading much more of the Dragons series, and am supremely happy that i have found S E Smith !!
This series is honestly my favorite. In each book, there is a strong heroine, and a strong male who loves her. In each book each couple have something to overcome, to battle usually each other at first. Then a common enemy or problem. I love the world's, the characters, you grow to truly care about each one, eagerly awaiting the next book to catch up on the other couples life's. The world and characters become almost as real to you as our own world. Fabulous author, fabulous book. This book Sara was rescued from a abuser on earth and because of her injuries was taken by a warrior from Valdier whose true mate she was. He just had to convince her she was strong enough to give love a chance. I truly recommend this book to anyone who loves good sci fi fantasy romance.
Sara is captured and tortured by a drug lord while working in South America. She is saved when the alien dragon lords come to avenge Carmen, wife to their prince. Among them is Jaguin who recognises Sara as his lifemate. But Sara is so badly damaged, both physically and mentally, from the torture that she has been subjected to that it is not even certain that she will live. Even if she does Jaguin will not survive unless she accepts him as her mate. Another first class story from Susan Smith. I actually read this when it was first released but, for some reason, didn't review it then. Well, like most of Susan's books, this is like a fine wine that matures with age! Recommended for 18+.
This is Jaguin and Sara's story . Jaguin has decided that he will never find his mate and takes on last assignment to help Lord Creon to guard his mate Carmen while she seeks justice for the past . Once there he then finds his mate being beaten and just about loses his mind ! Sara has scars inside due to all that she suffered and is not reading to accept that she now has an alien mate . This story will make you feel every emotion there is !! Sara finally decides that she will give Jaguin a chance but is still very scared . She can not sleep without nightmares and he helps her with that and a bond is building between them . This story and series will rock your world it is so good !! This is well written and strongly recommended to all !!
It's okay. I have to agree with the others who said this book is just a little light for plot. it's just kinda empty. The other books in this series are so colorful and descriptive. I had a hard time falling into this story.
I really want to know what happens with !!! Please tell me where to find their story.
I wasn’t sure if to rate it 3 stars. There isn’t half’s. Then again, the narrator’s performance is exemplary and was very enjoyable. Made for the feeling of “missing something” in certain rushed parts. Still, it was enjoyable and made me want to know more of new characters introduced 🐉 ^_^ Really, on to the next! 💪🏼
Not the strongest book. I’m saying that because writing this review I struggle to remember how the book ended despite the fact that I read it only a week ago. It just didn’t make an impression. The only thing I remember are the details about the first twin dragons. This books ending felt like a setup for the twin dragons
Not a nice beginning for two human females captured and then sold to a an inhuman drug lord. Sara has been almost tortured to death when the Valdierans and Carmen, a former human female slave, save Sara and Emma whilst killing the sadistic drug lord and cohorts. Jaguin realizes Sara is his mate and the necessity of a slow courtship plays out.
The 8th book in the series about the intermingling of humans and tri-creatures from Valdier. This time Jaguin finds his female when helping Carmen; one of the original 5; eliminate the man on Earth who killed her unborn child and husband.
Smith really knows how to create a story and draw you into it. Abounding love, Super Hot and sensual, couldn't get any better. Wish I could be as creative as Smith. She makes you see and feel what her characters do. AMAZING!!!!
As I have said before, this is one of the greatest sci-fi, fantasy series I have ever read; and I read a lot. Looking forward to seeing the newer characters developed along with those from previous books.
A tiny tad weird. The romance and chemistry was rather non-existent and usually the high-point of these insta-love romances (the coming together part) is, well the high point. In this book everythinf was rather dull.
Hi,once again you have created a brilliant novel, kept me on the edge of my seat . This was very interesting. I would most assuredly recommend this to anyone you has a thrist for adventure with a twist. Please keep up with your brilliant novels. Thank you 😉❤️❤️
