This was my first book about writing HTML back in 1999. The author has a clear, friendly, sort of quirky presentation, just right for making web design seem more like fun than work. It was from this book and the author's free tutorials on his site that I discovered that I can build sites and that anyone can do it if they take time to learn how things work. This is the kind of book you can give your aunt Suzie who has decided she wants to build her first site by herself. Yes, this book is old and there are newer ones on the market. There's even a second edition of this book with more up to date info. I still have mine near my desk, in rather tattered condition. No, you can't borrow it. :P
I bought this book thinking it would resolve a couple of formatting issues for me which I wasn't able to do through searches on the web for the answers. When I opened it up and saw that the "mistakes" that I wanted to correct were the way the book itself was formatted, however, I had my doubts. But being determined to fix the issues of a blank space between paragraphs and ragged right margins, I went to it.
It turned out that my first "uh-oh" thought was correct. It seems that it's natural to HTML to come out that way in print. I may keep the book, anyway, in case I come across something else that it will help me resolve.
Dr. Burns' HTML Goodies series are the best HTML tutorials I've seen. They're very user friendly and actually entertaining too. The best part... he has posted them online...

This is the book that I learned HTML with. I wouldn't recommend it now for anyone who is learning the markup because it is far out of date. The updated versions may be helpful but I have not used them. I keep it around for nostalgia.
