In A CHARGE OF VALOR Thor continues on his quest, deeper into the Empire, to retrieve the stolen Destiny Sword and save the Ring. As he and his friends meet unexpected tragedy and lose a member of their close-knit group, Thor and his remaining friends become closer than they ever were, learning that they must face and overcome adversity together. Their journey takes them to new and exotic terrains, including the desolate Salt Fields, the Great Tunnel, and the Mountains of Fire, as they face a host of unexpected monsters at every turn.
Thor's skills deepen as he undergoes his most advanced training yet, and he will need to draw on powers greater than he has ever used if he is to survive. They finally discover where the Sword has been taken, and they learn that, to retrieve it, they will have to venture to the most dreaded place in the Empire: the Land of the Dragons.
Back in the Ring, Gwendolyn recovers slowly and grapples with deep depression after her attack. Kendrick and the others vow to fight for her honor, despite the impossible odds. There follows one of the great battles in the history of the Ring, as they struggle to free Silesia and conquer Andronicus.
Meanwhile, Godfrey finds himself in disguise behind enemy lines and begins to come into his own, learning what it means to become a warrior, in his own, unique way. Gareth manages to stay alive, using all his cunning to avert capture by Andronicus, while Erec fights for his life to save Savaria from the oncoming invasion by Andronicus-and to save his love, Alistair. Argon pays a precious price for doing the forbidden: meddling in human affairs. And Gwendolyn must decide if she will give up on life, or take up the secluded life of a nun in the ancient Tower of Refuge.
But not before, in a shocking twist, Thor finally learns who his real father is.

I feel the author is rushing the books as the series progresses.
There are multiple typos and grammatical errors and a lack of continuity.
Examples:
1. Elden first tells us he joined the Legion because his father wanted to and was turned down. So his father pushed him into it in order to live through his son. Then the story changes and Elden says he joined the Legoin for money to help his family survive.
2. Thor KNEW Gwen was going to another town to rule, and KNEW the town. He KNEW this when they parted, yet when he returned he thought she was still at Kings court?
Another thing that bothered me was the dialogue when Gareth went into the village (which was overrun by the Empire) and takes a girl hostage inside a cottage in front of her family. I don't remember exactly what was said but all I remember is it did not make sense to me. It also did not make sense as to why the family was spared. Andronicus' character has been that he doesn't leave people alive.! He kills all, and takes women and children as slaves. It is curious as to why this family is living so happily... having a nice meal of meat on a platter.... smiling... when they have just been attacked by the Empire.
The author seems to avoid killing off characters but finally does so in this book. In short, he was a minor player, a twin and a spare.
It seems out of the authors style to only now mentioned some of the characters pasts with women. It is only now that Reese comes out with this story of once being in love with a cousin, and Kendrick also has a memory of a lost love.
It completely baffles me as to how Gwen's mother knew who Thors father was.
I'm still scratching my head about Thors brothers knowing where the Empire was to lead Thor and his friends into the trap. How did they get so friendly with the Empire in such a short time? The Shield had JUST come down and Andronicus was over at the MCCloud side when they left.
How does Andronicus' million man army move from place to place and still remain a million man army when in two different locations at the same time? They never seem to diminish either. It's always a million man army.
Scene locations are left to the imagination a bit too much for my liking. Seeming to be frequently described as "in the middle of nowhere."
I think the colors and creature descriptions could have been described with more detail.
I should mention this is not a YA series. It seems to have started that way IMHO, but I don't think YA would have rape.
This is another cliff hanger and although I feel this is something I should put aside I do feel compelled to find out what happens. I am only continuing due to the low cost.
Issues/Safety: Gwen is raped in the first chapter.. not too terribly detailed, but enough to be disturbing for some. No one has cheated or manwhored. No OW/OM.
Please, for the love of all that is good in writing, hire a real editor!
At one point a character can just hide in some sacred place, then she'll never leave, but if she does leave... really?
Conveying some miscreant speaks poorly doesn't require replacing two with too. That's a ridiculous mistake for a writer with so many books out there.
Six books into this and I still have no real sense of how this fantasy world is laid out. Descriptive inconsistencies are too numerous to list out. These writerly problems really make me sad because I want to like this series, I really do, but it's just so poorly written that it overshadows the decency of the plot.
To sum up this series .....after the fifth book i did not feel like reading this book .... it seems like as the series is progressing the characters are becoming dumber and dumber and i thought after the plain stupid the character reacted at the end of book 5 there would be some repite in this book ....... but same nonsense here ends the book in cliffhanger just for the shock fator (Read it you will understand)...... same after reading the book it left me feeling sour .....Again HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED
+ love the storyline, it keeps getting better + DRAGONS, even more dragons + magic gets stronger - people are very binary, either good or bad, nothing in between - lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of repetition - barely any details
Good simple story. Straight to the point. No unnecessary embellishments. The only minus in ACoV is the reluctance of the author to kill off characters. Thorgrin and Co. get off far too lightly against foes that should have long killed them. The protagonists are overly invincible. Too many unreal miracles such as Alistair bringing Erec back from the brink of death. One of the few scenes that actually seemed mature was the rape of Gwen. Epic fantasy is never complete without at least one rape. It highlights the brutality that characterises such an age and setting as portrayed in any work tagged 'epic fantasy'. I loved the book ending cliff-hanger though!
my biggest complaint is everyone falls in love at first sight, I mean it's fine once or twice, but every single love story is an instant "we are destined to be together". I like the story, but this book took me about four times longer to get through than the previous ones. The writing is mediocre, but the story telling is good otherwise I'd have stopped at the first book. I am hoping the writing matures with future books
This is easily the worst series I have ever read. But they are so epically bad I can't stop! My library has the first 10, so I am not paying for them. Please oh please don't spend money on these! I just keep laughing my way through. I think 'they can't possibly get any worse!' and then they do! It is hilarious!
Eh. What's to say? This has the same flaws as the others. Nice twist at the end, but that seems to be what she's going for...sub-par writing and plot development, but a good enough twist to keep you reading. The writing is just bad, but at this point, I'm committed.
I read this book as it was free from the Library. The writing is terrible. The average high school student could write this. The same phrases were said over and over. The main characters could be killed and I would have cheered as I finally wouldn't have to read their silly repetitive thoughts.
I read this book and had to get the other 16 in the series. I just could not put it down. Some days i read for 8 hours straight. What a great fantasy ride. So much is happening in these books but the author writes it so it is easy to follow, like several little stories happening in one book. The characters I found to visualize, like and or dislike quickly. Descriptions were intense and in depth enough to make me feel as I were there in the story as a character myself.
If you like action, romance, fantasy, magic, castles, knights, battles of good and evil and valor then you will love this series. There is gruesome killing but the author does not go into a deep description and make it gory. There is great love and romance but nothing even pg rated. Lots of fantasy but not to extravagant. It amazes me how creative this author is and I constantly wondered "what in the world will happen next?".
To me a perfect story, a perfect read, and i think it would make a great movie! Reminded me a bit of the "Lord of the Rings. I would highly recommend this series and this author to anyone that even considers these mixed genres.
In this episode Morgan continue her superb story, introducing a new character when Thor is on his quest to recover the Sword of Destiny, while we loose a dear member of our hero's group. The Ring's inhabitants try to survive Andronicus invasion with the help of some of the Silver and Erec also tries to resist in another front of battle. The author imagination has no limits on providing new challenges to Thor and his group. On every turn of page you will find a real description of new monsters and new environments that the Empire world provides to Thor and we will see Thor developing more his powers and at the end, finding out who his real father is. Another very entertaining episode of this incredible saga. You will not get tired of following Thor, Gwendolyn and all our heroes in this new episode. Just be aware that in order to savor every moment of this episode, I recommend that you start reading from the first episode to better understand the dynamics among the characters, as well as have a full idea on the environment of the story.
Just finished! Could not put it down. I am so addicted right now to this book series oh my gosh! There are many times where I have to roll my eyes because the writing or language, syntax... things were just awry. But I really do enjoy the story and man, when Thor finally picked up the sword it was AWESOME. And then the dragon, and the falcon helping, and gosh. So much awesomeness. And Then! when they went to save Kendrick and the rest of Silesia. I love the reaction they always have when they see him be this amazing. This is what I mean by Rice's books are so SATISFYING! because these things happen and I want them to happen and it makes me so excited. Now I'm waiting for Erec and his girl, Kendrick and his girl, Reese and his girl, Gwen and Thor to finally reunite and the whole Thor's parents story. These are the things I am waiting to read more about. I am so excited :D Time to read book 7!

Wow. Change of pace for Rice: not everything is rosy for our merry band of friends in this series. Characters die or are sullied. The numerous story lines (Gareth, Gwen, Thor and his buddies, Erec, Andronicus, etc.) also combine in some places, so there are not as many threads as in previous books, making it more easy to manage. Magic does continue to appear almost unbidden at only the most opportune times, as well as more mundane coincidences. The arc of this book is the recovery of the Destiny Sword, along with the horrible effects of its intervening loss. The eventual cliffhanger is a revelation regarding Thor's father.
The characters in this book are likable. The story is another hero's journey Unfortunately, it reads as though it were written by a very young adult. Everyone falls in love instantly; the monsters and challenges all seem to be Godzilla sized and the Hero is s 15 YO boy with a sword, a pet white tiger cub and Powers he can't control. Mainly, The author needs an editor with a vocabulary who understands that spell check doesn't get it.
In A Charge Of Valor I feel like this is a awful book because is seemed like book 5 and 6 were the same thing Thor embarking on his trip in the Empire. In my opinion I really feel like book 5 and 6 should have been one book because they both felt really short and they would have made a lot more sense if they were together. Lastly I would say skip it but I believe you should never skip a book in a book series but because this boom was so bad you might have to.
I screamed at the ending of this book and I hate that I have to wait a whole month until the seventh book comes out!!! I can't believe that Thor's father is --------- (no spoilers)!! Love this book and I think that it is the best in the series so far:)
This picks up right where the previous book left off. Thor and co are in the Empire trying to find the sword of destiny. Gwen wakes up after being raped. Argon saves her, but Andronicous does not heed his warning and less than 24 hours later calls for her surrender. She runs away to become a nun. Eric is with girl and the Duke and they are preparing to be attacked; they decide to set a trap and go to them instead of waiting; it mostly works. But he gets stabbed in the back. Luckily, his druid wife shows up in time to heal him. Garreth has run away, he breaks into a house and takes the daughter hostage so they will feed and shelter him for the night. Oldest daughter saves her sister and ties him up. She wants to kill him but father says no, sell him to the Empire soldiers; they kill father in exchange. Thor trusts the brothers that he grew up with, but turns out they were working for the Empire and led them to a trap; there is a fight and while Thor and co win all 3 brothers end up dead, as does one of the twins. They finally find where the thieves were taking the sword; they were all killed by dragons. They trek some more and get to the lava pit outside the dragons lair. Turns out Thor can talk to dragons and the one that was left behind comes and flies them to the sword. Reese can't pick it up even though he's a McGill. Everyone tries. Thor can hold it. They fly back. Meanwhile, Kendrick has been crucified, but only with rope as they ran out of nails. Drunk brother survived the fight, put on Empire armor, and has been pretending to be an Empire officer. He gets his two drunk buddies and they free Kendrick and the others; the legion training officer has already been killed. They free some of the people who have been taken captive and start fighting again. Thor and co plus dragon land and with the help of the destiny sword Thor kills a bunch. He meets with the Queen to get answers about Gwen. He asks if he is McGills son and that's why she didn't want him to be with her; nope. His father is Andronicous. And that's where the book ends. Mind you, still barely any time has passed since this whole thing started, maybe 5 months, so Thor is still 14. The plot armor is so thick it's ridiculous, but if it keeps Kendrick safe that that's all that matters as he is the only character I care about. Him and drunk brother.

This is the same crap writing we encounter on TV; Gwen decides to sacrifice herself (even though everyone knows Andronicus doesn’t take prisoners) and so there she is being raped by McCloud and she somehow blacks out and wakes up when he’s done. She is then mad so she manages to attack him and stabs him with his own knife, but she plunges the dagger into is groin once, not 10, 20, 30 times like an enraged Royal who has been trained, nope just once and backups and says “Oh my I can’t believe I did that.” Then McCloud is barely hurt and is enraged and going to kill her, but miracles, Steffen shoots an arrow in McCloud’s eye (none of Andronicus soldiers even noticed him wondering in their midst, right), of course none of this kills him (but six of Andronicus’ men die from just one arrow), he runs off to be seen again in the future. Then Andronicus is pissed so he’s going to kill Gwen, but another miracle happens and Argon stops him. Argon is so powerful but you know, he can’t use his power to kill Andronicus, cause then the story would end. So next thing we know Gwen somehow blacks out again and wakes up with Argon carrying her back to the castle, she is so sore and tired, cause being raped makes your body tired and sore. Then there’s the whole idiocy of; Andronicus’ army attacked McCloud’s side of the Ring and in only a day or two has wiped it out (this super powerful McCloud army that the McGils feared for generations) and is now attacking the McGil’s side. Uh huh. This is like the idiocy of the bad guys chasing 007 and shooting a thousand bullets trying to kill him and then when they are inches away from each other they just talk until 007 escapes, again. Oh, and Thor is supposed to be this future super being but Argon does nothing to train or teach him; “Hey kid I foresee great things for you, you have been prophesied, See you around and good luck.” And Ms. Rice wrote 12 or more of these?!
The Sorcerer’s Ring series is a prime example of fantasy, pure and simple, and this book is no exception. Though the characters frequently think high-minded thoughts and almost as often encourage each other with such thoughts, the main purpose of the stories is to entertain, which they do pretty well. All the books so far could still use better editing though.
I am amazed at the wealth of different stuff that can happen in the Ring and the surrounding lands. This has been going on for six books now, and there are eleven more in the series. It looks for the moment as if the onrushing tide of tragedy that has engulfed the Ring may have finally hit its high point, but I am not going to hold my breath. However, for the first time since the series began, it looks as if Thorgrin’s impossible abilities are finally beginning to turn the tide in the country’s favor.
We begin at rock bottom, where the previous book left off, with Gwen being raped by McCloud on Andronicus’ orders. After this, they intend to kill her as slowly and painfully as possible, but she calls on Argon, who convinces Andronicus to let her live and let her people just surrender to him. Even after Argon’s demonstration, however, Andronicus can’t be anything but mean. Before he goes after Gwen again, he gives orders for all the best of the Ring’s soldiers to be tortured to death.
Gwen feels humiliated, like Thor will never love her again, and she resolves to leave with Steffen the hunchback and heads out for a place called the Tower of Refuge.
Meanwhile, Thor continues his search for the Destiny Sword, and after many more hardships and losing one of his trusted companions, he finally finds it.
Okay, I get the "HATRED" some people have for Morgan Rice when it comes to her grammar. For me, it’s kind of a turn off. In the first few books it was actually tolerable, but in this Book 6, I can really feel the “turn off” moments especially in one scenario where she describes the monster Thor is about to face as looking like a “GURILLA” when she clearly meant Gorilla. and one scenario that supposed to be heard but spells as "Here".
When you’re fully immersed, imagining the fantasy world, and then you suddenly read something wrong like that, it really breaks the mood.
I also get the comments about how everybody seems to "FALL IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT". It feels a bit childish, and it honestly makes my eyes roll. I even read one review saying that once or twice is fine, but if every character experiences the same thing, it becomes a bit off.
BUT…
The thing is, when I read the book, the overall experience and imagination are what matter most to me. Reading Morgan Rice feels like my dad telling me a bedtime story using only his imagination. My dad did this to us when my brothers and I were kids. dragons, quests, creatures, magical adventures… Morgan Rice gives me that same feeling again when I read her books.
I love her headspace, her creativity, and the way she tells her stories. I’m genuinely happy with her creations, and I will definitely finish the whole series. Some of her flaws are tolerable as long as you’re enjoying the book.
