Simon has an offer for his stressed out roommate, but is this stubborn sub already too far gone for Simon’s methods?
Max’s high pressure job as a surgeon is getting to him and he’s starting to suffer for it. His roommate Simon has a solution for him, but is Max ready to give up control or will this Dom have to work for it?
Simon’s not used to dealing with such stubborn subs, but he can’t sit back and let Max’s health and sanity continue to decline in the name of his work. Enough is enough already and if Max doesn’t accept what he’s offering, then Simon might just have to come up with something even more drastic.
But when a night of passion between these two strong willed men exposes Simon’s secrets, it might be he who has to learn to trust and let go of the control he so desperately seeks.
Caitlin was fortunate growing up to be surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged her love of reading. She has always been a voracious reader and that love of the written word easily morphed into a passion for writing. If she isn't writing, she can usually be found studying as she works toward her counseling degree. She comes from a military family and the men and women of the armed forces are close to her heart. She also enjoys gardening and horseback riding in the Colorado Rockies where she calls home with her wonderful fiance and their dog. Her belief that there is no one true path to happily ever after runs deeply through all of her stories.
"As I was saying," Simon said, his voice soft in the near darkness, "I want control." Max gulped, watching him in the moonlight streaming in from his open curtains. "Of what?" His mouth turned up into a smile and Max froze, both dreading and needing the answer all at once. "Why, Max, that's simple." He took a breath. "I want to control.....you."
Okay, I had some questions. Why was the head of surgery needing a roommate? Why did the roommate need to be there? But really, none of this mattered too much as the story just focused on the here and now as Simon helps Max deal with his stress levels using his unique methods.
The two men share quite an interesting dynamic and it is fascinating to watch Max respond to Simon, his physical response versus his thought process. Yes, there is some light bondage and sex but the focus is on Max trusting Simon and the emotional side of giving up control NOT on whips and pain.
Just when things were starting to heat up there's a bit of twist near the end of this story. I don't want to say what it is but if you peak at my bookshelves it will give you a clue! :)
I felt Max's reaction to the revelations and easy acceptance was a bit unrealistic particularly given his medical background and felt the ending was somewhat rushed. I was left wondering - what does this mean?, what happens next? Tell me more.....
This is the first book in a series so I guess I will need to read the next one to find out more (although I'm not 100% sure what the next one is about!)
Overall, I was drawn into this story but felt a little let down at the end as things wrapped up too quickly, hopefully something that the second book will remedy. :)
3.5 stars
I received a copy of this book from the author. Thank you Caitlin for the opportunity to read and provide my honest review.
Max is a surgeon and on this night he is falling far down into depression at the thought of a child whose life he couldn’t save. His good friend and roommate, Simon, therefore takes it upon himself to give Max some much needed stress relief. And boy does he. I liked Simon so much – he understands what being a Dom is more than most, in that it’s what makes he and his partner feel the best, not any predefined roles. That was appreciated. One silly thing I questioned was – why does this very successful head of surgery need a roommate? Was it for the company (which I could understand)? The twist was unexpected and maybe it was the stress relief but it seems Max was okay with it. This is more like the beginning of the story so it would be nice to see something as to how they continue in the future.
I was so disappointed when this book ended, but I see it is the first book in a series. Yippiee! This has the makings of a great story! Fingers crossed...
Recommended, but be prepared to be cockblocked until there is a sequel.
OK, clearly I need to read the rest of the books in this series to understand what in H-E-double hockey sticks is going on here! It's a BDSM book about one character who has a super stressful job giving up his control and finding release in giving power to someone else- right? Uh, maybe not. Because once I got towards the end, all of a sudden there's talk of vampires (like really-vampires) and succubi and incubi. So, what the eff is going on here? Like I stated earlier, I suppose I'll have to read the next installment for further explanation, because, as it stands, I really have no idea what to make of this book. Colour me intrigued, I think?
Simon was hot, powerful. He reminded Max of a thunderstorm.
Serving Simon is an interesting novella. Two men are roommates. One of them has a high stress job as a head surgeon at a hospital and the other one is a Dom. The Dom reveals himself to the doctor one evening when the Dom is fed up with seeing the good doctor come home exhausted and unhappy. They begin a sexual relationship with the Dom in charge, of course. The sex is hot and includes withholding orgasm, toys, and a little bondage. No extreme BDSM here, so if light discipline is your kink this is the book for you.
Now, all that said, I have some unanswered questions. Why in the world would a chief surgeon need a roommate in order to make rent? Even in mid-town Manhattan a chief surgeon makes oodles of bucks. Next question why make the Dom a vampire if vamps have evolved to not needing to do more than eat rare meat? Was that really necessary to the story? In fact, the vampire doesn’t even appear until the final pages.
Ok...So this one was a bit weird...I mean it was a great story and Max and Simon seemed to really fit together...I didn't mind the fact that Max needed a roommate....Or the fact he seemed to be always stressed at work and his hands shook all the time and he was a surgeon....but that ending....Can someone please explain it.....It didn't need that but still it was a good read and a sure i'll read it again....I think it ended a bit too quickly but i've read other books that have ended too soon so no different there x
