Something happened at the party in the woods two weeks ago, Jen just isn't exactly sure what. When pictures of her from that night go viral and the entire school seems to be in on it, she feels she has no other option but to run as far away as she can.
Huge, colossal, epic fail.
LOST is a Young Adult novel about a girl finding her true self.
LeeAnne currently lives in the Adirondack Park with her husband and daughter. She started reading Young Adult fiction voraciously when she was a teen and took it up again with the Harry Potter series. Now it's one of her favorite genres to read and her absolute favorite to write.
I received Lost for free through Goodreads First Reads. This is a story about survival told through the eyes of a fairly typical teenage girl, as well as those of her worried mother. This is also a story about bullying and how serious a problem it is.
When I first began the book, I wasn't sure how I felt about it. The author, LeeAnne Baker, really captured the wide range of feelings that a teenager can experience at any given moment. I wasn't sure I wanted to relive that roller coaster of emotions. Fortunately, the plot held my interest and after a few chapters, that was no longer an issue to me.
There are a number of pop culture references throughout this story, which I generally enjoyed. As a woman in my late twenties, I found that I was able to identify with both main characters. There is a really good message here about how fortunate most of us are and I hope that people will gain some perspective as they read this. Lost was an enjoyable book and it is definitely recommended!
I loved this book! It is a conversation needed to be heard. I am sure there are so many people who can relate to these characters, or imagine their plight and feel what they are feeling. I couldn't put it down. I hope schools find this and recommend it for their reading programs. I was lost in Lost and I just can't say enough about it.
This story will hit home with anyone who has experienced bullying . My heart went out to Jen, who did nothing to deserve the treatment from other students. Her issues with her mother just made things worse. Lessons were learned by everyone and it proved that good can come from bad. Thank you for the good story!
I read a little over half the book, then skimmed the rest. The message of Lost is good, but the execution is just plain awful. It reads as if an adult trying to get into a teenager mindset wrote it. Jen's voice failed to reflect that of a high school junior or any high schooler for that matter. Besides the first few and last few pages, the majority of the book follows a stream of consciousness narrative. All thoughts and feelings were told to the reader instead of shown. Lost can be summed up in the following quote, "Finally, every so often we all should look deep within ourselves and ask if we are who we truly want to be. If not, then we have to change. We have to become the people we were meant to be."
I really really liked this book.I liked this book because of the plot, and the tragedy of how Jen finds herself lost for 3 months and has to survive alone after running away and crashing her mom's car in the middle of the woods. Now I better stop talking about the story before I give away too much! This really opened my eyes to bullying and cyber bullying and how it can effect someone's life. It's a Serious book but it also contains some humor.<3 loved this book! Though I would not recommend this book to people who don't like or cant handle more mature books.
I really wanted to like this book. I liked the idea of it, and once I got into it I found it engaging and interesting. But the ending was...disappointing. I didn't like the message of "just move on and forget the wrongs done to you and you'll be happy" - I think that's a dangerous message, especially for young women.
