Pain never truly goes away, until you find something deeper and meaningful that cures the heart and fills it with love. That is what Aurora desperately wants to believe. That somehow her music can save her, or even touch the unreachable heart of the guy she has liked for years.
Rora yearns for his attention and wants to experience this so-called love that could possibly end her long suffering and inspire her to chase after her dreams.
In deeply understanding the feelings of others and herself, will Aurora give up on ever finding true happiness, or will an intriguing soul teach her about the greatest song ever written?
I'm a writer of contemporary romance, suspense, and fantasy. I live in Rhode Island with my hubby. Aside from writing, I enjoy blogging, reading, listening to music and watching movies.
Aurora was an okay character, but it took me a while to warm to her enough to really like her. I really wanted her to get the confidence to sing, and I was glad when she finally did. Out of the all the guys, I liked Daegan the most, and really wanted Aurora to end up with him.
The pacing in this was fine, although there was points where I wanted a few things to get a move on. I found the majority of the book to be enjoyable though, and I didn't expect the twist regarding one of the boy's family.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when reading The Right Song. I saw a lot of promotion for the book ahead of its release and it intrigued me. Being a singer, lyricist, and writer myself, I was interested to see where Morgan would take the story. I was pleasantly surprised.
Aurora is a girl who lost her parents in a tragic way on a day that normal people would celebrate. She was in elementary school when it happened and it definitely shapes the person that she becomes. In middle school she joins a few guys in a band and pursues being a guitar player, but there are references that she wanted to be a singer before the accident. Throughout the novel, she brushes off singing because she doesn’t feel like she has talent, so it was difficult for me to believe that she could blow up so quickly—especially when she doesn’t believe in herself. But I do feel like she grew throughout the novel, so I did enjoy that aspect of it. The story is about her finding her voice again and feeling confident in herself enough to pursue it.
I thought it was strange that she wrote all the lyrics, yet Alex ended up singing it. Kind of reminded me of Fall Out Boy. Pete would write all the lyrics for Patrick to belt his heart out with. I always thought Pete would have been the singer had he had a better voice…but Aurora always had the voice, just not the confidence.
Her aunt raises her from a young age and it kind of reminded me of Jenna from the Vampire Diaries, so I liked that aspect a lot. I was happy when Leah found her happy ending.
Throughout the novel she has three love interests that emerge. Some might think that is overdoing it, but I enjoyed it because she doesn’t get physical with them all. I know I am probably in the minority when I say I was rooting for Aurora and Alex from the beginning. I was in a band myself (I was the singer) and there was always sexual chemistry with my guitarist, so it let me relive a lot of my old school days. I loved how sweet and genuine he was and how he was her best friend first.
Then there was Milo, and honestly, there wasn’t anything wrong with him. He was one hell of a guy. Although he was near perfect, as a reader, I never really cared for Aurora to explore her feelings further with him. I kind of wished Milo would have gone after Emma instead.
Lastly, there was Daegan. I’m still trying to figure out how to pronounce his name, but I digress. He was dark, mysterious, and sometimes an asshole. But really, he’s just damaged. I’m always drawn to the bad boys, so I figured he would be right up my alley…but honestly, I wasn’t invested in their storyline until probably halfway through the book. I wasn’t sure why that was, maybe it was because I was still lusting after Alex, who knows? Anywho, Daegan and Aurora are both broken and together, I feel like they fit. It took a while for me to feel that way, but I did eventually.
I rather enjoyed Morgan’s writing style and progression of the novel. I saw some reviews that said the story was short and I have to disagree, at over 300 pages, I felt like it was almost too long. But I liked seeing Aurora grow into the person she always secretly wanted to become.
I loved Emma and I wished she wouldn’t have had to go through the breakup with Drew—but it felt raw and it felt real. Something that teens do have to face in real life. I loved how supportive she was of her best friend and their band even after they weren’t together.
Overall, I felt like this was a really solid novel. I sat down to read it and was able to blow through it in one day, which has to say something, right? I look forward to reading more from Shane Morgan!

Before I even say anything about this book, I want to say how much I love this cover. It captures the emotion and personality of the main character, Aurora so well. It's beautiful.
I was given a chance to read this book in return for an honest review (there are a couple spoilers in here, but not many) and I have to say I loved it. I really enjoy growing with Aurora being there with her during her current moments of low, good and amazing.
You are constantly on a ride with Aurora whether its with her current friends (Drew, Alex, Chris and Emma, old friends (Milo) and new friends (Deagan), family (Aunt) or new acquaintances(Luke). All of these people play a very important part of her life especially since she has grown up without her parents for the past eight years when they were taken away from her in an accident.
This story deals with a lot of emotions and how Aurora deals with them, especially how she expresses them. You are on this constant roller coaster with her while she is trying to figure out is what she thought she wanted, still what she wants? What does she want? Is she able to make this kind of change? Etc...She is constantly questioning herself like a normal eighteen year old girl would do.
I found this story very relate-able (maybe that's because of the artist in me, and I understand those kinds of moments). But I would assume any woman or girl over the age of eighteen could very easily relate.
I was very happy to see all the transitions with it being a fast paced book. Everything flowed really nicely together and never left you wondering wait whats happening now. I have to admit, every time I wasn't reading an Aurora and Deagan moment I couldn't wait to get to the next point to see what happens. I loved their first moment together, there first real conversation, their first kiss together, them leaving prom together, etc. Those were the moments I looked forward to moments, besides Aurora taking a chance on stage for the first time (very special moment, plus Deagan was there)!!!!!
I look forward to reading more stores by this author in the future!
Really cute contemporary book. I felt in love with the characters (Daegaaaaaaaaaaan)and i enjoyed it a lot. I needed a break from dystopians and this book was perfect. I never picked a book related with music so i've had a weird time thinking how the songs will sound...but i want to thank the author for giving me a copy because like i said,i enjoyed it and i had a fun time reading it. I also loved the last quote that Aurora says : "Even when i considered letting it go,music never let go of me"
I truly enjoyed this book. It is a feel-good story that keeps your interest from beginning to end. I gave it 4.5 stars.
Aurora
Milo was a friend she had in elementary school. She had a crush on him. He was a beautiful popular kid who appreciated his studies. Although she had feelings for him, I did not feel their connection.
Daegan was my favorite male character in the book. He was a mysterious yet sexy artist. There was an obvious chemistry between them.
Alex was her attractive best friend who wanted to be more.
So, which one will she choose? You have to read it to find out.
It wasn't a great story but it wasn't bad. I actually had the hardest time with her name Aurora Lawrence, just because I live in Aurora, Lawrence county lol. Aurora is just a typical girl being raised by her aunt after her parents died in a car wreck on her 10th birthday. She's a girl afraid of leaving the place where she feels closest to her parents. Going as far as not even applying to college. Everyone is preparing to leave to start their lives. While she's happy for them she doesn't really want her life to change. Suddenly the girl that's never been kissed has 3 guys after her. Her best friend, her longtime crush, and a guy she has just started a friendship with. From the prologue it becomes pretty clear who she ends up with. She's the song writer/guitarist in a band and according to the lead singer has an incredible voice but she refuses to sing for anyone (except Alex so he knows how a new song sounds). When she finally finds the courage to sing in public and a video is uploaded to YouTube her whole life changes.
I received this book through Goodreads First Reads, and it was soooo good.
It has the perfect amount of angst, romance, and music.
Aurora is the songwriter and guitarist in a popular local band. As she and her friends finish high school, her life looks like everything shes ever dreamed - but a mysterious new friend is shaking her life up in ways she never expected. Reading this book, you will root for Aurora to finally break free from the past and live her life!!
This book has all of the elements for the perfect teen read. The story centers around teenager, Aurora Lawrence, and her gift as a musician and a singer. The romance integrated into the story is sweet and clean and the typical teen confusion and conflicts are handled appropriately and responsibly by the author. It is beautifully written as well.
I would like to thank the author for the privilege of reading her story in exchange for an honest review.
Wooow wooow wooow A beautiful story . I really love this book. It's all about growing up and making choice. And I can't deny that I'm a total lover about music/musician story!
Ps for Shane : Well Done Shane. U rock!! and I Can't help but love when you talked about my beautiful little country in your book ^^ Kiss from France
I love reading this book. It was a simple yet a beautiful story. What I enjoyed about this young adult book, was that it didn't involved teens into adult problems/situations.
Aurora was an ok character, simple, easy, talented, insecure, but that's exactly why I loved her, there's nothing more beautiful on this world than the simplicity of people and things.
Deagan was perfect, full of mystery, loneliness, guilt, talent, I loved the way he slowly stole Aurora's heart, how he let everything played not pressuring her to anything but always looking for the best for her.
I think each character was perfect for their role in the lives os Aurora and Deagan. The story, has a beautiful message, you always follow your dreams and fight for them, don't let fear hold you back.
Did you come across a book that left you speechless? That you found yourself thinking about afterwards? The Right Song was that book from me, I fell in love with most characters and it felt like I went on this journey along with them. Beautifully written, heartbreaking, inspiring. It had me smiling, crying. I had met Shane Morgan a while back through Goodreads but had no chance to read her books. After reading The Right Song I wished that I have, I already know that she’s going be an author I am going love. I always loved the books that deal with music because I love music myself, this novel was one of best novels about music. It wasn’t just about music but about finding yourself and believing in yourself, following your dreams. It was realistic. The Right Song is story I could imagine happening in real life. It was breathtaking, every page.
How could you not love Aurora? I did even when she was frustrating at times. For fact that she would deny her feelings for Daegan, especially after he kissed her and she couldn’t stop thinking about him, how is that not a sign that she liked him. Of course in beginning he was last person I thought that she would end up with, I figured that it would be Milo. You couldn’t help but feel sorry for her, both of her parents dead and on her birthday? I don’t think I would even celebrate birthday if that happened. She seemed sad half of time, unless she was writing her songs, or If she was with Daegan. He changed her in a way. If it wasn’t him convincing her to sing live, I don’t think she would done it and after singing she went far, her biggest dream come true. It had me smiling of how happy she was. I felt like I could connect with her and by end of book it felt like I knew her. That’s good writing.
Of course I loved Daegan, at first I was bit hesitant about him at first because he seemed be where she was. The first question that had popped into my mind, is he stalking her? Just like Aurora thought too. He seemed bit weird and moody too. One minute he was nice with her, next her was rude and I wondered if depression ran in his family, that’s why he had the scars on his wrists. That was a reason I didn’t see them together at start because they were different and of how he acted half of time. But as book progressed, I noticed that he cared about her, way he looked at her, how he was one able convince her to sing love, how he reacted when she sang him love song. He was in love with her. I don’t know how she didn’t see sighs, she spent half of time with him. Now Milo, I liked him but I didn’t see the connection between two of them, not same way then between her and Daegan. At first there was bit connection but then it seemed like he liked her more than she did, otherwise why would she pull away when he tried kiss her. Leave him at dance by himself. I was smiling when her and Daegan got together at the end.
I loved fact that Shane wrote most of Music Lyrics in the book, I loved every single one of them and the fit the story so well. This is an author that will go a long way. I’m looking forwards to checking out rest of her writing.
The Right Song is a story about Love, loss, and believing in yourself. It’s a book that will take your breath away and you will find yourself thinking about afterwards. It’s worth every page.

Where to start? I really really loved this book. To give you an idea of how much I loved it let me explain how I came to read it: So when I got this book I opened it on my kindle mainly to see how long it was and maybe read the first chapter, this was at about 11 at night...I didn't put it down until I'd finished it at about 2:30 in the morning... I literally put off going to the bathroom(tmi?) because I did not want to put it down. So, seeing as how all this review is likely to be is me gushing over this book we're gonna keep it short and sweet, kay?
The Short(sorta) and Sweet Version - Basically this book is awesome and everything you could possibly want in a contemporary book. Swoon worthy boy? Check. Awesome, if sometimes infuriating, main character? Check. Emotional drama? Check. The serious stuff(as in death, suicide and self growth)? Check. Awesome lyrical snippets? Double check. Oh and last but not least, awesome friends and a side of boy drama? Check and check. I immediately feel in love with the main character, Aurora, and likewise with all her friends and band mates, and of course Daegan. Recently I've fallen in love with contemporary love interests less and less but with Daegan, the moment he entered the book, I was a goner. This book pulled on my heart strings and gave me all the feels, even had me cringing in sympathy once or twice. Yes a few times I got annoyed with Aurora, and Alex(best friend who is in love with Aurora) and Milo(boy she's been in love with for 8 years), but it was never for very long and by the time the next chapter rolled around I had forgotten all about it. I really loved Auroras emotional journey and her relationship with her aunt and her friendship with her band(and Emma). I also seriously loved Daegan, like I can't even explain how awesome and swoon worthy his character is but trust me if you read this book you will love him to. Last but not least, I loved the music. I loved Aurora figuring out everything and that she doesn't have to hide behind her guitar and I loved her dedication to music. Also, can I just say that Shane clearly has an awesome taste in music, I got so excited when Aurora and Emma(her best friend) were listening to 'Love Bites(So Do I)' by Halestorm, like way more excited than is normal. Also the lyrics, like I would totally listen to those songs, I love it so much when authors put actual lyrics to the songs that main characters are writing, it's just the best to me. Okay, I'm going to stop now because so far this seems like a halfway decent review and if I keep going my fangirling side will appear and things will get ugly. Overall I just really really loved this book, the writing was superb, the characters were awesome and just I loved it.
Would I Recommend This? Hell yeah. Who To? Contemporary and music fans. Will I read more from this author(or series)? Of course.
I was surprised at how in love with this book I ended up being; romance is usually hit or miss with me, and lately it's been way more misses than hits. There are a few exceptions, but overall it's not been great. But seriously, by the end of this book I was half in love with Daegan myself.
The greatest part of this romance is that it's a slow burn. There is no insta-love. There is a slight love triangle, but it's not done in an annoying way. And since a third of that love triangle was Daegan, I was totally fine with it. Rora and Daegan start off being unlikely friends, and while you can practically feel the romantic tension between them, it takes a while for them to actually get together.
I'll be honest, when the author first started to describe Daegan I wsa sure I wouldn't like him. You see, almost any time a character is a loner with a tragic past (and Daegan is both of those) he ends up being a total jerk with emotional issues, and I've started to realize that isn't anywhere near as romantic as the book always tries to make it sound. But Daegan completely defies that stereotype. While it seemed like that was the way he was going to be at first, his character ended up being really sweet. He's not some alpha male, he's not demanding...he's just really not used to friendship.
Alex, Rora's best friend, is an entitled dousche. When he doesn't get what he wants in the beginning of the book, he starts yelling at Aurora and saying all sorts of nasty things to her. He got better later, but I couldn't ever get myself to like him because of how atrociously he acted originally.
Milo is...eh. He's that bland, really nice but really boring type character. I didn't love him, but there were no murderous thoughts towards him either, so...I mean, that's good.
Rora herself was an amazing MC. She was very fleshed out as a character. I loved the passion she had for music and the relationship between her and her aunt. I loved her friendship with Daegan and her struggles of dealing with the death of her parents. I loved everything about her in general.
The plot was really good; contemporary is starting to grow on me, it seems. I loved the interactions between the characters and the tough decisions that Rora needed to make.
The writing was for the most part good. There were little things that I nitpicked; for example, when Daegan is talking on the phone to Rora, he's described as smirking when speaking. But the story is told from Rora's POV in first person, so how can she possibly know that he's smirking if she can't see his face? But those are really small details. They didn't make for atrocious storytelling at all.
Considering I usually hate romance and yet I loved The Right Song, I think this is something I would definitely recommend.
An e-copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
~4.5 stars~
I loved this one! Shane has a way of writing stories that are sweet, innocent, believable, and yet full of inspiration and hope, and I just love that about her novels. Her books are real and follow characters who face realistic situations, and not crazy ex-boyfriends or over-the-top drama-fo-yo-mama.
However, there was a bit of fanciful elements in this novel, as Aurora wants to rise to the top of the Rock Music charts with her soulful voice and meaningful lyrics, but Shane was able to incorporate them so well. Rora was a great, strong heroine, who--for being a tomboy--was able to capture the attention of three guys around her. Although I wanted her to realize who she liked more earlier in the novel, I enjoyed following her throughout her journey and her eventual rise to fame.
I also really enjoyed reading about all of the secondary characters and am genuinely invested in their HEAs. Alex, Drew, and Chris were all absolute sweethearts. I want Alex to find some hot French girl who loves him back, Chris to stop his womanizing ways, and Drew to get back together with Em so they can have beautiful babies together. I'm happy Aunt Leah was able to find her own happiness as well. Milo was the only character I had trouble sympathizing with. After Alex's comment about "guys like him", I became VERY skeptical of him and his crew.
However, all is well because Rora had Daegan.
Daegan is wonderful, silent, tortured, brooding, but at the same time tall, dark, handsome, and terribly artistic--my favorite type of hero. He was sweet, cautious, jealous (not in an over-the-top kinda way), and supportive of Rora--all great qualities. Plus his backstory is just heartbreaking, and I loved him for it. He reminded me of Will from The Ghost and the Goth series and Varen from Nevermore--which if you know me, you know I love me my two dark and tortured heroes.
Overall, this was a sweet and inspiring coming-of-age story, with realistic and relatable characters and plot. I definitely recommend this one, and I hope Shane has something in the works for the rest of the Days End crew as I wish to know if they all get their HEAs too :)
*This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review*
Aurora “Rora” Lawrence’s parents have died in a car accident so Rora stays with her aunt Leah. She is as normal as she can be for going through a mourning process in high school, she and her friends Drew, Chris, and Alex are in a band called Days End which she is the guitarist and song writer, and her best friend Emma is always there for support, or to give her a shove in the right direction when Rora isn’t sure what she wants to be doing with her life after high school. She used to be best friends many years ago with a boy named Milo, who over the years has stopped talking to her. That doesn’t mean that she’s over him truly however and hopes that before they graduate and go off to different colleges (if she even goes to college at all), that she will get a chance to finally go out with him like she always wanted. They get to talking again and do start to hang out and get to know each other more and Aurora is so excited about it. She starts to notice at school that a boy she’s never really been friends with, or truly noticed before is staring at her sometimes named Daegan Stone. He’s also going through a mourning also because his mother committed suicide. He’s also artistic and creative like Aurora and they start talking and getting to know each other and become very good friends. Aurora can sing very well too but doesn’t sing for other people because she’s way too nervous to get up on stage in front of everybody. One day Daegan hears her and convinces her to actually go up on stage and sing at a karaoke bar and blows everyone away. After a few more performances she is a Facebook and YouTube star and music people are finally taking notice which everyone is excited for. All seems great until Rora has two very big and shocking confessions brought to her attention one by Alex and one by Daegon. She’s unsure of how to feel about both. If she isn’t careful she could lose two very special friends. The story was very good. The characters are all going through what most high school kids go through like dating, break ups, friendships, loss of friendships, and just growing up and being unsure of what you want to do. I did have a hard time putting this down and I highly recommend it.

For many people, music can be a source of therapy, with lyrics evoking certain memories and different genres suiting the moods of the listener. In The Right Song, Shane Morgan captures this sentiment perfectly whilst also telling a story of change, acceptance, pain and romance. We begin with a short prologue which promises a happy ending but prompts so many questions before the reader is whisked back into the main narrative, beginning a year prior to this event. Aurora is the “girl with the guitar”; the lead guitarist in Days End and a high school student. She has been infatuated with the same boy for eight years, the same amount of time she has spent grieving for her parents who were killed in a freak car accident. Aurora is a complex character whose best friends are the 3 male members of Days End and the very bubbly Emma. Aurora writes the band’s songs on her black Fender which is her prized possession and though she is confident on stage with Alex, Chris and Drew, she suffers from stage fright when asked to sing alone. In many Young Adult romances we would expect Aurora to find love with her best friend Alex or Milo, the recipient of her unrequited affection, but here Shane Morgan breaks the mould and introduces the dark and brooding Daegan, who is the only one able to encourage Aurora to step up to the microphone. Despite his social status as a loner, their friendship develops and we are left wondering if he will be “the guy who inspired me to reach this point“. The Right Song is not without its drama, but Shane Morgan finds a balance; gripping her reader without overloading us with angst. The song lyrics written by the author make Aurora’s story even more unique. They capture so many emotions and if there is ever an audiobook version of the story recorded I would love to hear these put to music. The Right Song is definitely one of my favourite books of 2014 and I think that again Shane Morgan has proved her talent as a writer. *This was a complimentary copy, given to me in exchange for an honest review*

I have read most of Shane Morgan's books and each one becomes harder for me to figure out which one is my favorite! I love them all and for different reasons. This story is different from most of the others as this one has characters still in high school, so it is a younger set of readers that she is gearing it too, however, as an "adult" I loved it. I enjoyed watching the characters mature, figure out the meaning of love, what matters to them the most and how to become the person that they long to be. I had no problems with not knowing what the author was describing or the banter between the characters. The author paints a picture of the town, characters, setting, and details with her writing and that is what makes her books some of my new favorites. I love the way that the plot flows throughout the book and the way that the author is able to make the reader forget that they are actually reading a book and that they aren't in the book. This book will have you laughing, crying and cheering for each of the characters along the way, just as all of her books will. If you haven't read anything by Shane Morgan then you are missing out on something really special! I would recommend any and all of her books, you won't be disappointed at all by any of them!! Make sure you leave your self a lot of time because once you start, you won't want to stop! Enjoy this one and all of her others!!!
I have to say that once I got into this book it really captured me and kept me reading. The beginning of the book is a little slow, but it picks up and the story draws you in. I really enjoyed the main character Aurora. I liked her spirit and enjoyed watching her emotional reactions to the events that takes place and people around her.
I am not a big fan of love triangles, but the way this was written it was easily enjoyed. **Spoiler** I think you knew from the moment she connects with Deagan that he is her soul mate. I never really liked Milo and we don’t really get to know him much other than Rora’s crush. I think the author did this on purpose so that the reader connected more with Deagan from the start. He is more of a distraction and a way for Rora to know what is truly in her heart. The chemistry between them is amazing.!**end of spoiler**
I loved the musical aspect of this book. I thought it was pretty cool that the author wrote the songs that are in the book. Very original and made it more personal to me.
Overall I enjoyed the book. It was unique and entertaining, but I think it could have used another go around with a really good editor. 3 ½ stars for me.
*The author sent me this book to read and review.*
I really liked this. When i found chances to read I was devouring this story. It was just as addictive as the other stories I have read by this author.
I liked the characters, well most of them. I didn't care for Milo's character. I think he was a little too full of himself. His character was the only one that I could not stand. Alex bothered me a couple times, but by the end of the book I liked his character a little more. At the same time, though, they reminded me of people I knew when I was in high school.
The one thing that sorta bothered me, (and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars) was the love triangle.. Or was it a square? Anyways it bothered me when she wasn't sure if she liked Milo or Daegan more. She was pinning after a guy that she had nothing in common with. Not only that but she had a guy right there that was perfect for her. I just didn't even understand how she couldn't realize it sooner than she did.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and I just adore Shane Morgans writing and storytelling. I will defiantly be reading more by her soon!
I was given this book by the author in return for an honest review.
Wow.. just WOW. So at first I was having problems getting into this book but I didn't wanna give up so soon and I'm so glad I didn't. I fell in love with this book. So we have Aurora who is in a band, she writes music and can sing. Only not so many people know that. I thought Aurora was just awesome. How she grew throughout the book. She has the biggest crush on Milo (someone shes known since they were kids: they even got married when they were kids) only they grew apart. But then they start spending time together again. While I liked Milo, I felt like him and Aurora were so different. And then there was Deagan (swoons). He was just awesome. My heart broke for him so much throughout this book. Him and Aurora were like 2 peas in a pod and I was pulling for them. Everything they went through had me tearing up quite a bit.
So I'm giving this book 5 stars only because I can't give more. Shane thank you so much for allowing me to read this book. It was such an awesome book. I look forward to reading more of Shanes books in the future.
Aurora Lawrence is in her last year of high school. She’s is happy writing music while be in the background while other people sing her songs. As she uses her songs as a crutch to cope with the loss of her parents in a tragic car accident and she still suffers from the pain and loneliness.
Her longtime childhood crush Milo Whitmore finally notices her and they start to date. Things seem to going well until she befriends Daegan Stone a shy artist at her high school. He takes her out of her comfort zone and makes her face her fear of singing in front of people where she attracts the attention of the announcer who is a record engineer.
She finds herself recording a demo album and turning to Daegan for inspiration and strength. Along the way, she realizes that she wants to sing as well and that we need to move from our childhood love.
Can she overcome her fear of performing live and finding love with someone she never expect? Will these two sad souls find love together and become each other muses only time will tell.
The author sent me an e-copy of "The Right Song" in exchange of my honest review.
It was beautiful: it touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes in a lot of moments (especially at the end). The characters were very relatable and I loved how the author built each one of their personalities (I laughed a lot with some of them). I enjoyed very much the writing style and loved the twists and unpredictability of the story-line! I'm so happy right now because of this sweet story, that I'm grinning ear to ear. Oh and I'm beyond grateful that the author thought of adding an epilogue, because before I got there I was thinking "I'm going to have to ask the author if she's thinking of making this a sequel, I need to know how things will work out for all of the characters!" But she was obviously one step ahead of me:)
And the playlist and lyrics were a great touch - music always makes things better (not that this story wasn't already amazing, because it was)!!
"The Right Song" by Shane Morgan was an absolute joy to read. I felt that Aurora as a main character was easy to relate to and like. The may be because of the fact that I was interested in pursuing music in high school as well (focusing on guitar playing, singing, and songwriting.)All the characters seemed well developed and the plot was easy to follow/digest. The chapters blew by for me as I felt a need to try to finish this book in as few sittings as possible...Often times, sneaking a few extra moments to read while walking into work.
The biggest highlight for me is that this story helped inspire me to write a new song after a 4-6 year period of songwriting drought. Thank you Shane Morgan for the extra inspiration! Any person who has had a lifelong passion for music can probably relate at least to some degree to the story. I do plan to check out some of Shane Morgan's other work.
*A digital copy of the book was provided to me by the author for review.
Some books I judge by their cover, this is one of them - isn't this book cover just wonderful? I thought you will agree with me on this one at least;) All in all this book is a story of a young woman who makes some bad choices in the beginning some better choices later and by the end of the book figure out that some times life in all it's complexity is not about choices at all. I did like the story over all, some times it was annoying yes, but it really does get better by the mid count of the pages. Lovely ending and even better acknowledgments by the author, just for that heartwarming and honest note at the back you should try and read this book, it is really worth your time; after all books are somewhat similar with songs, sometime its not the lyrics but the music, some times it's the reverse, and sometimes both.
I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This was a perfect coming of age/ finding yourself novel. I liked how the main character really came out of her shell and had a huge amount of personal growth over the course of this book. I also enjoyed that she found out that the "perfect little picture" of what she wanted was ripped to shreds leaving in it's wake an even better outcome for Aurora. I enjoyed that the author included songs in the story, I feel like they really added to the overall feel of the book. I'm really hoping that there will be a follow-up because I would like to see what happens to these characters now. I would recommend this read to contemporary lovers who have a soft spot for music.
This was a very good YA contemporary read! I love books about music and songwriters but wish this book had a CD companion like some of the other musical books I've read. Being able to hear the melodies of the songs really enhances the reading experience. I really liked the characters and thought the romance between Aurora and Daegan was totally swoon worthy. It was a pretty emotional read at times and hard to put down. I hope there is a sequel because the story ended too soon for me. I also must say that I really liked the writing style and will be checking out other books by this author in the near future.
I loved this story!! I love how the author made you keep guessing who the main female character was going to end up with.. Was it going to be the best friend, her life long crush or that mysterious quiet guy. The plot was amazing. I totally recommend this book! I loved Daegan, team Daegan all the way. I really do wish we could read more about Drew and Em. Did they end up together? What was Em feeling? Did drew still love her and just wanted a little freedom? Please please Shane tell me lol

I was given this book, for my honest review.A very good intriguing, and romantic love story.Starting in high school ,and Aurora trying to find herself through her music, and her heart yearns for the guy who she has been interested for years. And she has gone through tragedy, the music helps ease the pain she endures,I enjoyed this book since I sing karaoke.
