The thing that wanted to keep reading this series was the progression of Mick and Susan’s relationship, but it was barely a blip in this story. It would have made more sense if they broke up, instead of getting engaged because there wasn’t interaction between them in a meaningful way plus she was gallivanting with all these guys in New York.
Speaking of the guys, it seemed every guy she met just couldn’t help but he sucked into her presence. If they were involved with the mystery or something else I could have understood it, but there weren’t so it seemed unnecessary. She saw nothing wrong with hanging with them even though she was involved with Mick.
On top of that, she was making questionable decisions with these men despite them being strangers. She just went off with them without a single thought they might hurt her or take advantage of her. She did it time and time again. It was a little too much. I didn’t like that all.
As for the mystery of the story, it was again very clear who the villains were and what their objective was with no real twists and turns. Though in parts it was suspenseful, overall it just wasn’t exciting. I like in my cozy mysteries of trying to figure out the bad guys and putting the pieces together as it comes together. I want to be shocked and surprised. I don’t want to be spoon fed like it was in this one. It just wasn’t the vibe I wanted.
I don’t know if I am going to continue this series anymore . This one made me not like Susan so much I didn’t like where it went with the relationship between Mick and Susan. The whole mystery elements in both books made it very clear who the suspects were and what they wanted. It wasn’t hard to figure out. I want a little more of a challenge with more twists and turns along the way.

Big Apple Hunter (A Susan Hunter Mystery #2) — Maddie Cochere/Narrator: (20 chapters) November 16, 2024
It’s been over 10 years since I read the first book in this series. In fact, I went back and skimmed the first book so I could get up to speed on the series. Not that you really need this series in order (at least not yet!)
In this one, Susan has entered a racquetball contest and though Hunter is her main squeeze, she has some doubts about if her feelings are one sided, but before she can talk with him, a worker at the club is found dead.
Susan feels obligated to figure out the murder, but before she does, a trip to New York leads to a stalking incident involving some jewlelry she bought. Now, she needs to solve the worker’s murder and find out who is stalking her… are they related?
These stories are super fast reads. Some grammatical errors, but self-published works always have a special place in my heart.
This is the second book in the Susan Hunter series I've read. They are quick, breezy reads--perfect for a plane ride. I was able to finish the entire book on a recent flight and found it fun and entertaining. Sometimes you just want something light that makes you smile. In Big Apple Hunter, Susan finds herself exploring New York City on her own while her friend Darby is busy pursuing a new job. Of course, things don't go as planned, and after a visit to a jewelry store, Susan finds herself the target of a sinister-looking stalker. Soon others join him, putting Susan's life at risk. Amusing subplots of a party gone wild, a gossipy neighbor, and Susan's relationship with her new boyfriend add to the story.
