My inner geek is satisfied with this abridged history of SH and his discoveries...
Some things were too short - but I can read up on those separately..
Clever idea... designed to be read in 3 hours... "each of the 3 chapters in the book breaks down into 20 sections.....each section has 3 paragraphs... each paragraph will take about a minute to read, meaning that each section will take roughly 3 minutes.. hence the Title"
Stephen Hawking was a fascinating and inspiring man. He was a brilliant theoretical physicist, a passionate advocate for human rights, a loving father, and a pop culture icon. Sadly, he died on March 14, 2018, but his legacy lives on in his writings and ideas. "3-Minute Stephen Hawking" covers those ideas and his life in bite-sized chunks.
The first things that come to mind when thinking of Hawking are his voice and his wheelchair. Both the voice synthesizer and the wheelchair stem from the same source; Hawking had ALS or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. When he contracted this illness, it was supposed to kill him in two to three years. Sometime in the 1980s, Hawking had to undergo a Tracheotomy. Thankfully, technology kept pace with the progression of his illness.
Professor Hawking was Einstein's successor. He expanded some of Einstein's theories to fit Black Holes and discovered Hawking Radiation in the process. For those who don't know, a Black Hole is a section of spacetime where there is an infinite curvature, a singularity. Nature abhors exposed singularities, so it is protected from our probing and understanding by the Event Horizon.
Hawking comes along one day in the 1970s and realizes that Black Holes should emit faint radiation. Hawking Radiation is his most familiar result. I read another book by Leonard Susskind about the Black Hole Information Paradox.
Hawking is one of the people who got me interested in Physics and Science. I could talk about it for hours, but I have other things to do today. On another note, the copy I own chronicles Hawking's life to the very end. It is somewhat confusing since the copyright is 2017.
Interesting scientist, his work despite his disability was inspiring. This stuff is beyond my level of knowledge but relativity, gravity and time/space has always been interesting. Read only if science interest you
Jammer.
