I watched the TV series of this when I was a kid but never read the original novel. It was just as fun reading it again, but was horrified to see it had been updated in 2006 and mentions Harry Potter in spite of originally being published more than a decade before Rowling was published.
I read this as a child and was absolutely terrified of it. Just re-read it and have no idea what it was that I found so frightening - strange how your perception of things can change so much with age. It isn't particularly well-written either...
