Black Hurricane

Rate this book
Jasper Jones fell in love with Dean McQueen at fourteen, but at twenty-three Jazz would like nothing better than to see the rock star choke on his own vomit.

After a catastrophic reunion, Dean seems bent on destroying Jazz's life. It all started when an impromptu bar performance ended up on YouTube and Jazz became an internet sensation overnight. The name "Jazdean" keeps popping up in headlines and the paparazzi stalk his every move. To make matters worse, Jazz is about to end up on the streets for the second time in his life.

In a desperate attempt to keep his home, Jazz signs a deal with Dean's band, Black Hurricane, to perform at a couple of concerts. It feels like one of Dean's feeble attempts to get Jazz back, but painted into a corner like he is, Jazz has no choice.

Awesome. Perhaps my favorite rock star book to date.

Do you know that feeling when a book makes you so emotional that you have actual chest pains while reading? That tightness in your chest, the way your eyes water, when a book is SO FREAKING GOOD that you can't handle your emotions? That's how I felt reading this one.

Oh god, this book was amazing. It had a very similar vibe to Moonlight Becomes You and I felt almost identically during both reading experiences. This book was another "scorned teenage lover becomes enemies with former lover/rock star," then morphs into enemies-to-lovers. I loved it with "Moonlight Becomes You" and I loved it now.

I was afraid that I wasn't going to like this one because first person, present tense is very difficult to pull off successfully. However, Erica Pike did a beautiful job with the writing. I was FULL of feelings, full of emotions, and may have shed some tears while eating lunch, looking like the crazy lady crying over her book. The writing really spoke to me as a reader. I felt like Jazz acted exactly how I would have acted in his situation.

One thing that stands out for me is that Jazz didn't let Dean back in his good graces easily. Don't you HATE when someone gets screwed over and then forgives the guy in a hot second? It is one of my major pet peeves. Well, no worries here, folks. Jazz is pissed with Dean, and Dean gets to FEEL. HIS. WRATH. I loved that part. I wanted Dean to suffer before Jazz took him back and suffer he did. Jazz was no push over and I adored him for it.

The chemistry between the two MCs was off the charts. I felt the gravitational pull between them and I couldn't get enough. I honestly didn't put this book down all day, and I almost pulled an all-nighter last night because I didn't want to stop. I actually dreamt about these boys.

Also, for readers who are scared to try this book because they haven't read the others in the series, you shouldn't worry. This could easily be read as a stand-alone. I haven't read the others in the series and now I want to go back and read each book before it because I can't get enough of these characters!

The only minor quibble was that I thought the ending was a tad weak. This book was THIS close to being on my ultra-exclusive all times favorites list, but I was sort of unhappy with Dean at the end. I think I'm still a bit peeved at him, to be honest.

Guys, do yourself a favor and buy this book. It is one of the sweetest, most emotional rock star books out there. If you want to drown in feelz and read a story that you won't be able to get out of your head for days, you need to be reading this one. It was THAT good.

"Mistakes are experiences that form you into the person you are today."

Jazz fell in love with Dean when he was fourteen but now that he’s twenty-three, he hates him so much. Dean is the reason why Jazz has trust issues. He doesn’t want commitments anymore and he's the reason why Jazz hasn't had a steady boyfriend after Dean! He is the reason why Jazz feels used, worthless and damaged! He broke Jazz when he was just a kid.

Jazz is so desperate to earn some money otherwise he would end up in the streets, again! And he doesn't want that life anymore! So Dean offers a deal. A contract that Jazz works for the band and he sings with Dean! But Jazz can’t get himself involved with Dean again! He doesn’t want to repeat his mistakes and he doesn’t trust Dean anymore!!!

I didn’t like this Dean guy! If I could read his thoughts, maybe I would like him a bit more!?!? And why Jazz forgave him sooo easily when Dean did the second mistake!!! Told in Jazz’s POV, 1st person. It’s a second chance romance, an angsty read, and well-written. It’s the third installment in the "Boston Boys" series with character crossover but it can be read as a standalone. Overall, it was a good read and hope you enjoy it!

Re-read 5/3/17 and 1/19/18...still very good :)

Now this was a pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed reading this one.

Jasper and Dean were high school sweethearts when Jasper was 14 and Dean was 16. Well...I don't think you can really call them sweethearts because Dean kind of fucks everything up !!

 photo tumblr_muprwwvvW21rf29aso3_500_zpsbrctyv6j.gif

In the present day, Dean is a very famous rockstar who has just been outed as being gay (in a not so nice way) Jasper is kind of messed up. He is a one night stand king, didn't finish high school and got hokked on drugs. Thank god for his best friend Cal-Al and his other group of friends (who are awesome). They are his family now. Cal-Al took him in when he was 17 and fixed him up.

Erik asks Jasper to help him take pictures during an interview with Deans band (Erik works for a gay magazine). Jasper has all sorts of jobs, but money is a problem and so is rent. He accepts to do this to help Erik and make some money, but he is not a happy camper. He hates Dean..with a vengeance and would love to choke him to death !!

Dean doens't recognise Jasper at first, but once he does...it's game on. You see, he sees the past way way differently and he wants Jasper back and he is willing to grovel and beg...this part I really liked.

 photo images_zpsdhaflixt.jpg

Jasper doens't give in so easily, but the sexual tension is through the roof and once they do get together..sparks are flying.

Of course things are never this easy and another secret is revealed which again leaves Jasper heartbroken.

 photo 762658_zpsnp1aajmg.gif

Jason is a wreck..he really loves Dean. But Dean is a mess too and I do believe he really loves Jasper, sure he went about things the wrong way, but in the end (with him crying on the floor)..damn I couldn't help but feel sorry for Dean too !!

This was a nice second chance romance, with awesome characters, some nice steam, and a little dose of angst. I liked it. The only problem everybody seems to have is that Jasper didn't make Dean grovel as much the second time around. I think spending months apart, being misserable was punishment enough. He knows what he did was wrong...he lost the love of his life....

I would have liked a little more steamy times...but that's just little pervy old me ;) The steam was nice but it takes some time to get there. And for those of you who are wondering...yes Dean is a fuck up, but he didn't cheat !!

4 stars from me

I am a huge fan of the Boston boys after reading A Life Without You by Erica Pike and that was the book that made me fall in love with the author. So yeh really excited to read Black Hurricane because Jazz has been an amazing sexy character throughout the series and I just was so ready for his HEA. While Black Hurricane is absurdly entertaining I was still disappointed with the overall story and I did not love it as much as I had hoped.

Jasper *Jazz* Jones is single, hot, and has an amazing group of friends. Yes, life is little challenging with making a steady income and keeping his home but he's willing to put in the hard work. When his friend Eric offers a serious amount of cash to take some pics Jasper jumps at the opportunity but he's regretting his decision because that would mean he gets to see Dean McQueen after many years. Dean is the leader of the wildly successful rock group Black hurricane he's also an asshole who broke Jazz's heart back in high-school. Sucks cus he's still sexy as fuck and Jazz just wants someone to ruin that smug face. Jazz his hoping that Dean doesn't recognize him and he doesn't but he's hell bent on getting Jazz into his bed. When Dean shows up at Jazz's place of work his cover his blown and Dean finds out exactly who he is.

Now it becomes a game of cat and mouse with Dean going after his prey and Jazz hell bent on never getting sucked back in. He knows staying away from Dean is the best course of action, too bad Dean can't take a hint and his financial dreams get answered when he's offered to join Black Hurricane on a few charity concerts. Old hurts and old love collides which causes tense filled rehearsals and a sexually charged atmosphere. Now Jazz must listen to his heart or walk away from Dean forever.

Alright, this book confused me in the very beginning. Like Jazz goes to take the pictures of Black Hurricane but comes off like he didn't know Dean was in the band all along and was all surprised then the story moves into like he did know it all along. Maybe I missed something but that was the impression I got. I'm also starting to find the characters a bit superficial which surprises judging from how the series started to where the characters are at now. A Life Without You had so much substance, the characters were so rich and I wanted to know everything about them. Now, I feel like I don't want to know them because I might end up disappointed. There clouded in parties, glitter, and fucking and that’s all I'm seeing.

Yet, the story was still very entertaining and while I'm all types of confused to what happened with such a promising series I am still kinda in love with them. I like Jazz as character but I used to love him and as for Dean he gets a bad rap in this book. I would have liked more from his POV because he's been through some things and it was just too much about poor ole Jazz.

Should You Read It? It’s still a yes for me, and while the last two books doesn't compare to the first in the series they are fun to read. So I still enjoy Erica Pike and I still am looking forward to the other characters story.

"Dean fucking McQueen. Formerly Dean Summerfield. He was not only my first crush, he was the only guy I ever allowed to get close enough to break my heart. He did a thorough job of it, too."

Jasper is fourteen when he falls in lust/love with sixteen year old Dean. They have an intense but complicated relationship plagued with emotional issues associated with youth and their new found sexuality.

Jasper (who adopts the nickname Jazz) is scarred by the fallout and unable to form long term relationships. He has a deep seated fear of being hurt again and doesn't trust anybody, let alone Dean when they meet again years later. Dean is desperate to convince Jazz that he is a changed man and does everything in his power to lure him back.

The story is full of mistrust, miscommunication and well deserved doubts. I loved the rock band setting with the performances, groupies and the media. I adored Jazz's protective and supportive friends and I really liked the bikies at the bar where Jazz worked. And the sex! The sex in this book is fabulous and steamy. The scene where Jazz and Dean make out against the back wall of the stage is so hot and they only hump against each other!

The only part of the book I found that was a slight let down was the relatively rapid resolution of issues. After spending most of the book with Jazz swinging back and forth with his feelings (which is understandable), he accepts Dean's final admissions of how he 'used' Jazz when he found him again relatively easily.

A bit spoilerish so I'll hide this bit..

So in conclusion, this gets 4.5 stars because it was totally engaging, I liked the heat level and it is about a rock band!

So this is the third in the Boston boys series and all the guys from the previous two books are there but of course this is based around Jasper ' Jazz ' Jones and his tempestuous romance with Dean McQueen, past teenage love who let him down badly leaving him somewhat emotionally scarred, now a famous sexy rock star who barrels back into Jazz's life causing sparks to fly , LOTS of misunderstandings to occur and allowing the ensuing angst to follow which is great because these two ooze UST like there's no tomorrow! I have to be honest there where times when I wanted to slap both of them silly for all the stuff they throw at each other but at the some time it was hot enough to scorch the plastic off my kindle so I just settled back, chunnered to myself and let them get on with it until they finally ... Well I'll leave that for you to find out for yourselves. Lol.

I love a good rock star romance and this satisfied most of my cravings with its Hot bodied, sex on legs, bad boy rockers, scenes on stage which were electric and sex which was smoking as it always is in Erica's books. I just wish I'd had a little less of Jazz's quickness to jump down Dean's throat every five minutes even though in all accounts he'd been a bastard when they were younger but like all tortured souls, Jazz won't always let him explain and at times came over a bit petulant and then my sympathies drifted towards Dean bless him. But... That is the basis of the story and It was still really enjoyable. In fact I was sad when I had to put it down to sleep last night and having just finished it I'm left wanting, some time soon to read all three back to back to revisit the other couples again.

Can be read as a standalone so don't worry but if you haven't read A Life Without You , book one or Absolutely Eric book two I can recommend them. I have a soft spot for these guys!

Let’s get it out of the way that I absolutely love this cover. Love it! It is sexy, simple and completely encompassed the feeling of the book in my opinion.

In this installment of the Boston Boys, we get to revisit the boys (oh, Eric, so lovely to see you happy) and get the story of Jazz. He’s an artist, a painter, who works temp jobs to afford his beloved loft and flits from man to man, never settling. He doesn’t believe in love at all other than the love he has with his friends. He was badly hurt by his first and only love, the boy (and yes, they were boys at the time) he had sex with, the one he loved who didn’t love him back, used him and made him believe love is an untruth, a lie and they “persistently cling to the idea of love and find some other idiot to manipulate.” This makes Jazz sound cold and he isn’t. Jazz is a loyal friend, a funny guy, a talented artist and just seems decent. You want to hate the ass who hurt him without even meeting him.

This turns out to be none other than the lead singer of Black Hurricane, Dean McQueen. In a meeting he is sad puppy-eyed into attending by Eric for Glitter Guy magazine, Jazz comes face to face with his nemesis from the past. A nemesis who doesn’t even recognize him. He puts the moves on Jazz, not realizing he already knows the man.

It takes a little while for Dean to figure it out, even as Eric is unknowingly putting Jazz through the wringer by begging him to come for an exclusive interview, one that is only going to happen if Jazz is present. Eric is just so excited by the band and Jazz doesn’t want to ruin that for him. As I said – Jazz is a great friend. As time passes, Dean is trying to talk to Jazz and Jazz is trying to protect his heart. It is a wonderful thing to see how his friends support him. For a guy who’s bio family treat him poorly, he has a family in his friends.

Not only has Dean used Jazz in the past but he took full credit for the song that really made Black Hurricane hot, “Hades Whores”. Jazz is furious, as well as furious at himself for not being able to just get away from Dean.

The bar Jazz temps at, the Flying Frenchman, has Jazz singing sometimes. It just so happens that one time he is onstage and Dean appears and sings with him. When it turns into a YouTube sensation the life Jazz has becomes ever more complicated. Especially when Jazz is about to become homeless due to the sale of the building containing his loft, he is getting desperate. So when the Black Hurricane manager, Jack Coleman, offers Jazz some big money to perform with them at charity concerts, he feels he has to accept. Dean’s idiocy on stage on the concert Jazz and friends attend so Jazz can see their stage presence just prove to Jazz how much Dean uses him. A punch is the least of what Jazz feels Dean deserves right then, especially considering how innocent Dean acts and how confused that Jazz is upset. More than meets the eye?

As the book continues you begin to feel for Dean as well. Yes, he was an ass to Jazz when they were younger but he had issues going as well. When they actually talk about the sex when they were younger it was a little heart breaking to see the difference of perspective. Dean is showering Jazz with gifts that have relevance to their past and being respectful of him while they are rehearsing. Jack Coleman is an asshat. Being manager means he is always concerned with the money.

There are misunderstandings, lack of communication, pigheaded refusal to listen or believe and a group of friends (on both sides) so staunch and entertaining I wanted to be in their practice room. I will admit Cal-Al, the albino who was an outcast in school and saved Jazz from himself, is my absolute favorite now.

I am going to hold Ms Pike responsible for the time I spent watching Kazaki videos, (more time than I will admit), after reading about the costumes and wanting to know what it was. The boots! Holy hell, the boots!

This is my favorite of the Boston Boys so far but I have high hopes for Cal-Al’s story. He needs one and most definitely deserves one. If only we all had friends like that, sigh. Jazz and Dean take the winding, painful route to get where they need to be but they do get there. I’m glad I got to read it.

This book totally surprised me, in the best ways possible. OK, so I love books where on some level the two characters are enemies. I usually like musician stories as long as there is some grit or edge to the story. I love reunited lovers, especially when there are remembered high school sweet moments. I’m a sucker for some well-placed manipulation on my feelings. Annnnnd, this book had it all! Woot!

Jasper Jones is a beautiful 23 yr old bartender sleeping indiscriminately and never going beyond one night stands except in very rare cases to move them up to ‘fuck buddies’. He’s been in love with Dean McQueen since he was just a teenage boy when his heart was shattered so badly he barely recovered. Dean has moved far away from their high-school fling and is now the front man for the band, Black Hurricane. It’s been somewhere around 10 years since they’ve seen each other, and old resentments and formed ideas of the past resurface once reunited.

Why worked for me is that Jasper and Dean had such different ideas of what was happening between them as teenagers. The reader only gets Jasper’s POV and I felt so much emotion for him as he remembered moments between them. The flowers, the orange candy, their first time. I might be a sap to some degree as I tried to deny I was sniffling a bit. Jasper feels used and worn out after they parted and between them lots of mistrust and miscommunication issues regularly surface when the two are in the same room, or even just thinking about what to do on the present situation. The reader also struggles like Jasper as to whether there is some manipulation going on in the ways Dean tries to woo Jasper back. He comes across so perfect, so determined that you want to melt in a puddle of goo, but you hope you can trust him.

The tension is HOT. Gahhhhh, stupid hot. Right from the beginning I felt the chemistry, but the moment I really felt like the author wrote two beautiful, believable characters is in the hotel and Jasper looks down at Dean. That indecisiveness and flood of emotion both felt was pretty mind-blowing and that’s fairly early on in the book! So many teases, so much lust, so much anger and pain when they interact and I wanted to spray myself with water like Blanche Devereaux in Golden Girls LOL.

Also, throughout the book, the author wrote a ton of cute moments that showed how Jasper and Dean connected but moved the plot on smoothly. From a duet sing off at a bar, to concerts and music videos together; the reader experiences everything right along with Jasper and his friends.

Such a FUN book with two characters I ADORE. I love, love, love these two and feel almost protective of them, especially my bb Jasper. I still can’t think of those high school memories without a few happy smiles mixed with a few sad tears for him.

Highly recommended!!! Side note: I think this book is by far the best in the series, but I enjoyed the other ones as well.

I'm liking this novel so far. By the way I still don't like Eric, putting his friend in awkward situations.

I loved the youtube comments, it is very realistic a lot of videos I have seen have similar comments.

I'm just wondering for all Dean's love he couldn't recognize Jazz. And he had no problem hooking up with him before he knew it was Jazz.

Finsihed 3/9/2013 - Rating 3.75

This was my favourite novel from the series so far, and the upside was there was no cheating plot here. This novel helps us learn that there are two sides to a story.

I found it amusing that Dean was afraid Jaz would hurt him during sex considering there first time.

I liked that forgiveness was not instantaneous. The author did make me guess what the youtube was about . I liked that they discussed their history and helped each other understand.

Hate their money whore of a manager. And don't like that in the end he is forgiven because they got together because of him.

I would have liked this novel more if we could have had Dean's perspective, I love scenes were the MC realizes the guy they're attracted to is their lost loves. Moonlight Becomes You Lucky Moon 1.

I'm looking forward to the next novel, hoping it's Cal-Al's. I'm not sure who his love interest is it Dean's band mate in a GFY novel or Terry.

Oh. My. God. This book is like my idea of the perfect fucking book!!! Boys in love, boys fuck each other over, boys are very, very hurt and cry and whimper which makes me cry and whimper, boys make up. Oh and some lovely smexing and all our old friends from the first two play a huge role in this one so I was extra excited because I lurrrrrve Eric! Seriously, this one made my chest ache which weirdly makes me very, very happy!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third book of the Boston Boys series but this can be read as a standalone. This is the first book I had the chance to read about this series and I was a bit worried about not being able to understand this one (old characters and all) but, after talking to some readers about reading Black Hurricane or not, they assured me that I wasn’t going to miss anything important.
They were right.
A fourteen Jasper meets a sixteen Dean in HS. He’s a special boy, a genius , and Dean is the most beautiful boy he has ever met: he falls in love with Dean and after a while, they become a couple. But, one day everything changes.
Hurt, hate, emptiness are part of Jasper’s life. One thing I really liked about this book was how the author explained every aspect of Jasper’s life very slowly, without leaving out all the details. Another aspect was the friendship factor: Jasper has amazing friends and that, can really save someone’s life.
Years later, Jasper meets Dean again: Dean is a famous singer of a rock band and Jasper loathes him: the pain/hate he feels inside of him is still there and since Dean, Jasper hasn’t love anybody else. When Dean, finally, recognized Jasper, is euphoric: he looked for him for years and he wants to tell him everything about why he disappeared and about his feeling for him.
But, when you have been dying inside for years, nothing can be the same again: saying I’m sorry is not going to delete all the pain you inflicted to someone else, especially if this someone would have died for you, in the past. It’s a long healing process and Erica Pike did a great job about not rushing things between Jasper&Dean. Another thing that I really adored are the flashbacks: you can really understand Jasper, what he felt in the past and why, in the beginning, he doesn’t want to have Dean back in his life. I loved reading about Jasper and Dean, about their past together and then about them, living apart from each other.
But, real love is not easy to put behind and after a long time, Jasper and Dean find their way to each other again.
I give 5 to 5 stars to this amazing book because Erica Pike was able to make me feel everything and I felt like I was really inside the book: it isn’t an easy task so I totally recommend this one.
You won’t be disappointed.

I was really loving and enjoying this and I wish I could have given it a higher rating, but that revelation we find out close to the ending killed it all for me.

I was so into the story of these two guys and all of their angst and young love turned to heart break. I have to agree with other reviewers, I loved that Jazz did not give in so easily to Dean! That man deserved all of the groveling he did and then some. I think I would have liked Jazz less if he just gave in too easily, mainly because I am a huge grudge holder and when I read about a super fast reconciliation I just want to stop reading. The friends and band members all felt very real and fun, they all had their own personality and none of them felt like a flat side character, so thumbs up for that. I also really enjoyed the torture of going through a heart break, I love second chance stories they just have so much feeling, and when you get to the characters HEA it feels so worth the journey (slightly masochistic sue me).

So if I liked this book so much why the low rating?

That little fuck nugget of a twist/reveal whatever you want to call it. That just tainted everything for me, and I just could not believe any of the shit that spewed out of his mouth. And I got upset that just took him back without any real repercussions, or without hearing the full explanation that turd face had to give. I don't know, again this could just be because I am a champion grudge holder, but it felt a little too rushed to be realistic. I at least wanted some heavy groveling and begging to hear an explanation but no we get a sad pity party turn . I mean yes I could see the remorse but I wanted more.

And the epilogue, to me, came out of nowhere. One minute I was rolling my eyes at their reunion and the next thing I know: bam epilogue. It also felt like it was lacking,I can't put my finger on it but it felt like the epilogue could have been taken out and it wouldn't have been a big deal. So sadly this wasn't as high as I originally thought I was going to rate it.

All in all I enjoyed this book for the most part. And if second chances are your thing definitely read this!

This one blew rock star romance stories out of the water. I had read the first two novels in the series but for some reason forgot (?) to follow up with the third one. It wasn't even on my TBR. And then I randomly decided to give the first one a reread, realised how much I had enjoyed this author, and looked up more of her works. Long story short, this book wasn't even on my radar till recently and it blew my mind.

First things. I love enemies-to-lovers. I love childhood lovers reuniting. I love rock stars. This book had all three wrapped up in a package that delivered hurt/comfort at reasonable doses (it's not "Beneath the stain angsty"), a slow-burn drenched in UST that was off the charts, (the MCs didn't get properly together until the halfway mark), and meaningful plot. I absolutely devoured this book. Both characters have this emo twink thing going on, guyliner and all, and are crazy about each other even though Jazz gives Dean a run for his money in the beginning. Dean hurt Jazz something fierce in the past and boy did some good grovelling to win Jazz back. No insta-forgiveness, miracle-cure-by-cock for these boys. It was just delicious!!!

I didn't quite like how quickly things were resolved after a little twist towards the end but it wasn't disconcerting enough for me to take off stars. If you enjoy rock star romances with guys in their early twenties, you will absolutely love this. The side characters are amazing as well, and if you haven't read the first two books in the series you can keep up pretty well, but I would recommend reading the books in order to have the full background.

Highly recommend!

I got this book for free in exchange for an honest review through the DBML program of the M/M Romance Group at goodreads.

Now this has both Enemies to Lovers and Second Chance themes running throught out along with the rocker/band theme. Jasper (Jazz) Jones was a bright and advanced student when he fell in love with Dean Summerfield (Changed Last name to McQueen). when Dean pressured Jasper into having sex at fourteen, then abandoned him. Jasper life went into a freefall of sex and drugs and feeling self esteem issues. Jasper is now a painter(art) and bartender and singer. Dean is the Lead Singer of Black Hurricane an internationally famous Rock Group. The Black Hurricane's final concert of the tour is in Boston where Dean and Jasper grew up. They first meet at a press conference where Jazz was coerced into being the photographer for one of his friend. We finally get to see what happened to make Dean abandon Jasper. the Antics that occur seems a little extreme but plausible in todays media saturated world. An enjoyable read, that deals with some serious issues but isn't all dark and gloomy.

I haven't read a rock star book for a while but after reading this one I am certainly in the mood for more.

I fell straight into this story and was held firmly by the heart until the end.

Jazz is adorable if a little stubborn lol I took longer to warm up to Dean. I wasn't sold on his reasons but by the end I was happy to see him get a second chance.

I found the Rock star parts of the book believable, and would like to see the rest of the band find their HEA.

Most of all I found the chemistry between Dean and Jazz intense.

Parts of the story were predictable although I was pleasantly surprised by the way things played out in the end.

Overall a good solid Rock Star read.

4.5 Stars rounded up! :D

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review through the DBML program in the M/M Romance group... And I am endlessly glad that I signed up for it. ;)

I love M/M Rock Star books, it's kind of a thing I just can shake off, and I've read some books that feature Rock Star characters, some have been great and some others not so great. I confess that even though I read the blurb I wasn't entirely sure if I was going to like this- I am now happy to tell you, that I didn't just like it but actually loved the book.

Black Hurricane is the third book in the Boston Boys series. I have not read the first two and I can assure you that it did not affect my understanding or love for the book in the slightest but, of course, now I want to read them.. haha.

The story goes that young Jasper, nicknamed Jazz, met Dean when they were in high school. Jasper was a genius kid, a braniac, and Dean was everything Jasper was not. They bonded over different things and one of them was music. Jazz fell madly in love with Dean, he was his first great (and only) love. Jazz trusted him but Dean left one day, and this left Jazz feeling betrayed, used, unloved, and incredibly depressed. We only get flashes of this part of their lives, though; The story is really centered when they are in their mid twenties or so.

After having lost practically everything after Dean left, Jazz found a way back and tried to make the best of his life, "tried" being the key word. Jazz went through a rough, dark time after Dean left him and things went back to normal, or as normal as they could get but he was never able to be in a long term relationship afterwards. He developed huge trust issues. He stopped believing in love and made sure he made himself believe that love was really lust, and nothing more. He was okay with it... until he met Dean again.

Dean is now a rock star. He's the vocalist of the band Black Hurricane. The guy is as gorgeous as he used to be. When Dean spots Jazz, he flirts with him, but he's royally kicked in the ass by him, and Dean doesn't really understand why... Until after a couple of days.
Anyway. Jazz loathes Dean and makes sure he knows it, but at the same time old feelings kind of come back and he starts getting confused and really pissed off at himself and the whole situation. Dean tries really hard to convince Jazz that he's changed. That things are different now, and that he would never hurt him again, but time after time Jazz closes the door in Dean's nose and the dude has to leave without getting to explain himself and trying to come up with a new different way to approach Jazz and try again.

The UST between the MC's is incredible. The chemistry is also amazing, and it delivers perfectly well all through the book. The sex is quite hot, and even those scenes where they didn't have sex but made out were.. you know... steamy..

I loved all the bits that included rehearsals and stage scenes, and I definitely adored Jazz's friends. They are simply amazing, they are loyal, and honest, they are incredibly sweet and protective of each other.

The story is full of doubt, regrets, distrust, but it's amazing.

I'm giving it 4.5 stars, and not 5 because the end felt rushed.

I would absolutely recommend this book to those who like me, love rock star books.

I really loved this book. It lived up to all my expectations. Basically, Jazz works a ton of odd jobs just to get by. He is extremely smart, but didn't graduate high school and he sleeps with everyone, but refuses to have a relationship. This is due to the crushing heartache he received at the hands of the love of his life, Dean, at the age of fourteen.

Dean is now a famous rock star and Jazz loathes him. Even worse, a song that Jazz wrote with Dean when they were young was a huge hit for Dean's band, but no credit was ever given to Jazz. When these two meet up years later all Jazz wants to do is punch Dean in the face, but Dean doesn't even recognize him. Once recognition hits, Dean won't leave Jazz a lone. He is determined to win him back. Jazz is struggling between hating the man who ruined his life and forgiving the only man he ever loved.

Reread:

4.5 Stars

I still really like this book. Jazz and Dean are soo sweet together and Jazz's friends make the whole story. There are two issues that hold the book back from being 5 Stars.

First, I think Jazz forgives Dean WAY too easily at the end. Yes, Dean is crushed, but he royally screwed up. It would be hard to trust him and Jazz just goes, "okay." Not that Jazz is a push over, but man, at least he could have made him work a little harder.

Next is Jack Coleman the manager. I would fire his ass if I was Dean. That guy was crazy, cruel and obviously did not care at all about the individuals in the band. I really wished in the end his ass was dumped.

The good parts of this book were really great! The side characters were very well fleshed out. But the end was too rushed and easy for me.

I just can't get over how forgiving people can be in fiction. Or better yet how forgiving MC's always are, since secondary characters are often allowed to be a lot more stubborn to make the MC's seem like saints.
How is suddenly everything the manager did okay ? How easy did Jazz forgive Dean time and time again? And then feeling guilty about not letting Dean explain Dean should have had to do a lot more groveling and begging.
Maybe that just makes him a better person than me and people really are that forgiving in real life but I needed to see more remorse from Dean and Jazz hanging on to his anger more.

And did I miss something or was Jazz How does something like that get glossed over?

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book I have read by Erica Pike, and it is the third book in the Boston Boys Series. I cannot wait to read the first two now.
Jasper (Jazz) met Dean when he was 14 years old And Dean was 16. Jasper falls madly in Love with Dean but feels the Love is one sided, and then one day Dean is gone, no explanation. Years later they meet again and Dean is the lead singer in a famous Rock band. Jazz wants nothing to do with him. He hates him, but Dean wont give up on trying to get him back. I've read my reviews that said Dean was a total jerk but I totally disagree. Dean tried everything to redeem himself, but Jazz wouldn't listen. It all works out in the end. I cant wait to read more of Erica's book.

I have read lots of gay romance novel but never have the heart to write any review but this book is something else. There're so many wrong about it at many level that I feel like I have to comment something about this book.

See when I read a gay romance novel I expect the main character to have the quality of a gay man. Yes, they can be sissy which is a lot fun but they also have to be a man and not some 'shoujo manga heroin' stuck in a 'gay man' body. Like seriously!! That's all there is to Jazz, the main character. I think this guy has a serious issue of lack of self-respect. I feel sorry for him at many level. He let himself be used time and time again ever since he was just 14 years old by the same douchebag Dean through out the whole novel until the end. I don't even want to mention any of it coz there are a lot and they are seriously so sad. I think if one experience what Jazz had gone though they are more likely need to go see a psychiatrist. But this Jazz, despite all of that he was still in love with Dean and everything he did was OKAY. Yeah...a bit of resentment at the start but at the end the 'love which equal to sex' whats matter.

Talk about the other main character, Dean..arrgg.. I seriously hate this guy. I mean I have more respect on a straight up douchebag character than the one that keep on fishing for reader's sympathy. He was 16 when he had sex with the 14 years old Jazz without lube and condom. He didn't even know that was wrong and the boy was suffering while having sex with him. He said was 'walking on heaven' and than he was feeling 'SHY' about having sex with Jazz and that gives him the right to just walk away abandoning the poor boy at some factory after that self-fun sex. He even gave a warning to the poor boy not to tell anyone about them because he's not gay but still happily cornering the poor boy into having sex with him again and again in dirty places. That so shit!!! He even dared to give excuses that he's dad was beating him up for being gay. That does not give you right to destroy the poor boy's life that you claimed you so in love with. I real hate this fishing for sympathy kind of character..Arrggg..

Basically, I just don't like Dean at all through the whole novel. I hate how he and his band was using Jazz to gain back their fame. I hate how he used money to get Jazz attention. I hate that all he wants was to get into Jazz's pant and think that everything can be settle with sex. I hate when he said that he was clean of HIV and that if he was getting one that would be because of Jazz since Jazz is the slut even though he was the one who didn't use condom during sex. I was furious when I read that. The poor boy turned out to be a man-whore because of bad decisions you made when you were young and you even dare to say that to him.

Then come the part for Dean's virgin anal penetration. OMG!!It was so annoying reading that part. I hate how he was being so pussy about it and don't wanna be in pain all that shit when he didn't even know how to prepare his bottom partners. That's so selfish. You should at least know something about anal sex preparation when you are the TOP for almost a decade, right?? ( he's 25 by the way). He didn't even prepared Jazz when they have sex at the MV shooting and dare to ask so much. Asshole!!

Towards the end, when he kidnapped Jazz from the Halloween party. Arrggg..again some asshole bullshit. I get that he wants to amend things with Jazz by kidnapping him to be alone together that shit. But please do it right. Be the manly hero for your 'shoujo manga heroin' and capture my heart like all hero should do in a romance novel. NO!!! that's not what he did. Apparently he was so devastated so he wasted himself in alcohol just because drunken Jazz said to him in the car that he don't care if a stranger fuck him because he was sad. Jazz was heartbroken and intoxicated so of course he would say such thing. But since you decided to break his heart and then kidnapped him to your place, you should at least take care of him until he wakes up and apologise. Hell no!!! Instead, Dean got drunk on the floor and Jazz has to take care of him because he was all sobbing and vomiting when Jazz woke up. ARrrggg...I really cannot..I just can't.

I mean a main character can be a douchebag for the story to be interesting but there's got to be a limit to it. This Dean is way off limit. I don't get it this story got a lot of 5 starts reviews when there're so many wrong to it. It can't just be I love you and you love me, sex..sex..sex.. and happily ever after when there's no respect, no self-respect, selfishness and so many betrayals in a relationship right. Yeah of course in a second chance story there's got to be about forgiveness but I don't think it works in this one. You forgive but you also got to watch you back not to be trick again otherwise it would be just foolishness not forgiveness. If that happens, you have to walk away so you could gain back your self-worthiness and respect. Hah....This Jazz just easily forgives everytime for the sake of love and Dean can just do anything he likes even though its hurtful so long as he 'keep saying' he loves to Jazz. ( I don't even think he loves Jazz, he just need Jazz).

When I read this novel, I've got the same feeling and anguish when I read Arrows Through Archer and Moonlight Becomes You. In Arrows Through Archer, I find that there's also a lot of self-respect issues when in comes to second chance story where Archer, the MC just easily forgives as if the hurtful event that he gone through due to the betrayal never existed and lack of remorse in the other MC and that sex could salvage everything. I mean come on..really?? Human value things that are difficult to get and things that are easily given easily gone too. For me Moonlight Becomes You is a better read about a second chance story. I really like how Kayden/Jesse handle things after being betrayed by Shane, the one he loved. Shane didn't even do a lot of damage to Kaiden/Jesse either, he didn't used him for sex, he just had to make a difficult decision at the time. And believed me Shane really had to work hard to earn the forgiveness and Kaiden/Jasse, ahhh I love this guy. He really have a lot of self-respect, he knows how to play revenge and he also not ashamed to ask for forgiveness when he's at wrong. I think that what a second chance story should be. Black Hurricane , I am sorry to say was just not it.

3,5 stelline

I received a copy of this book via Goodreads' Don't Buy My Love program in exchange for an honest review.

Jasper "Jazz" Jones is a 24 y/o out gay man in Boston. He dropped out of high school when he was devastated by a one-sided "relationship" with a fellow student, Dean. At 14, Jazz knew nothing but his infatuation with Dean, a 16 y/o popular boy. Jazz was undersized, but pretty. He and Dean became friendly and often played guitar together, writing songs, even.

Then, this friendship turned physical. Dean began having intercourse with Jazz, on the super-down-low. Translation: Dean would sneak up on Jazz at random times in school, corner him when he was alone, and have sex with him--without any further exchange of affection. Then, one day, Dean disappeared. Distraught, Jazz searched for him, fruitlessly. COnfused and abandoned, Jazz turned to drinking and drugs, failed/dropped out of high school and lived on the streets until he was taken in by a friend's family. He still has little to do with his own parents who are probably more disappointed by his lack of education than his sexual orientation.

These days, Jazz is happy. He's clean of drugs, and has a great group of gay friends on which to depend. He's unable to commit to a relationship however, and makes just enough cash-money as a temp employee at bars and as a street artist to subsist. In one of his cash jobs, Jazz is to photograph the rock band, BLACK HURRICANE, for his friend Eric's magazine. Unfortunately, Dean is the lead signer of BLACK HURRICANE.

Dean has recently been outed as a gay man, which hasn't been great for his band's reputation. Still dealing with the fallout, the band is returning to Dean's hometown--Boston, and there's one person with whom he'd like to connect: Jasper. Turns out, Dean had been regularly abused by his father for his homosexuality--and had been sent to his aunt's home in Cali when he didn't conform. From there he ran away and later joined his band. For years he searched for Jasper, finding nothing, but now that he discovers Jazz at the press conference his wooing is nothing short of ridiculously romantic.

OKAY! So, Jazz is loathe to accept any of Dean's overtures. Burned a million times in high school, he's not willing to put his hands near the flame again. Dean is rather relentless--and his manager dangles a $30,000 carrot in Jazz's face, just to get him to spend some time with the disgraced Dean.

This is a real roller coaster of a read. Jazz is so sympathetic, and so earnest in his desire to avoid falling into Dean's orbit. I totally related to him simultaneously loving and hating Dean. And, Dean is so incredibly charming. His affection seems so genuine, and the details he remembers from their time spent all those years ago--it's like they were separated soul mates. Pretty much because they were.

Their reconnection story is intense--lots of amazing near-misses and sexual tension that pours from the page. There are some passing glances at physicality, and then total connection in the overwhelming way that Jazz remembers from their first time around.

Of course, it's gonna be rockier now. And, it really is. Jazz doesn't understand the depth of Dean's affection, but he also doesn't know how integral he is to BLACK HURRICANES's revitalization, or to what length the PR machine will go (had gone) to ensure Dean and Jazz re-coupled.

I was glad to see Jazz come to terms with his feelings for Dean, not once, but twice. And, I was REALLY glad that Dean was worth every ounce of Jazz's affection. This is a quality contemporary gay romance.

The story is told from Jazz's POV and we get a seriously good look at his group of friends--who are all interesting and fun to know. This book is the third in the Boston Boys series, but I didn't feel that I missed anything in reading this one--so it is fully capable of standing alone. If anything, I'm intrigued to read about the previous two books int he series because I think they relate the connection stories of Jazz's friends.

4.5ish rounded up.

Erica Pike is back again with a new book in the lovely Boston Boys series. Black Hurricane tells of Jazz and his high school not-so-sweeatheart, Dean. Their love was big and broken once, and when coincidence brings them together again, Jazz isn't sure he can ever forgive Dean for the heartbreak he dealt him before.

With a whirlwind of angst, love, and anger, emotions come together and we see just what happens when first loves meet again, years later.

“Yeah, but I have a feeling I’ve never experienced the kind of love you and Dean have for each other. To use Cal-Al-speak: your love is epic. It’s golden. It’s something you can’t not take a risk on. You have to learn to trust.”

God. I absolutely loved this. It has been a long time since I've indulged myself in Erica Pike, and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. In the past, I haven't really been a fan of rock star stories, but this one just hit all the right notes for me.

It was delicious and filled with emotion and a strong back story. I was a bit disappointed with how quickly it all was resolved and wrapped up in the end, but nevertheless I had so much fun reading this.

So... Cal-al and Lucas, maybe? Please? Please, give me more Boston Boys, Ms. Pike!

(This book was received free in return for an honest review via the Goodreads Don't Buy My Love review program.)

Dean Summerfield/McQueen, lead singer of Black Hurricane, and Jazz's first love, comes back into Jazz's life and turns it upside down.

This book was FAN-tastic. Rocker boys, young love, angst, falling in love all over again. I've enjoyed so many of Erica Pike's short stories, and she made me fall in love all over again.

I could totally relate to main character Jazz. The quick spike of vexation over the littlest thing, the slow acceptance of truth, the even slower giving of forgiveness. His harboring of his pain and anger over Dean's betrayal of his love was raw and so very emotional.

I loved and hate Dean right along with Jazz. The flashbacks were perfectly set, and just long enough to give the reader a taste of both young love and spite.

The author's build of all of the characters personalities was spectacular, and the by-play and dialogue was realistic and witty. (My only issue was the number of Jazz's friends where occasionally I got a little mixed up on the third layer of friendships.)

I could hardly put this story down, I just wanted to keep reading about these fabulous rockers. Now, I'm going to go check out the other books in this series.

Jazz is my favorite out of all the guys and I was looking forward to reading his story. But it was not what I expected. The way the whole thing happened seems so far fetched, it's ridiculous. He didn't need to sing with the band or join the band for this story to be good. To be honest, this is what ruined it for me. It's not believable.

Jazz is sweet and awesome and I liked him a lot. But Dean the duschbag was not my favorite. The whole betrayal at the end to make the story more intriguing was lame. And the reasoning behind signing Jazz with the band made no sense. Dean had no clue whether Jazz was a good singer or anything like that only because they spent a summer together when Jazz was 14.

Now Cal-Al is my newly favorite guy. I hope his story will be more believable. I am scandalized after reading on the author's website that he will be paired up with Terry!!! NOOOOOOO!!! I will not read that book if that's true. I can't see Terry and Cal-Al together! Cal-al needs to be with Lucas!

I really enjoyed this installment of Erica pike's Boston boys series, though maybe not as much as the previous one. it had some flaws, but for me, reading m/m is about the relationship. if the connection between the characters is good, if I can feel their chemistry, if I can understand their motivation, then I can forgive most anything else and that was the case here. Erica is good at writing characters I can get behind and romances I can get invested in. Recommended!

And for an MLR release, it has a pretty great cover. Just don't look too close.

What a great book. The story of Jazz and Dean. They had been 'together' in high school but the Jazz was hurt by Dean. Years later, Dean now the lead singer of the rock group Black Hurricane is giving a press conference attended by Eric and he dragged Jazz along to take the pictures.
Jazz recognized Dean and leaves. Although they eventually get their HEA, it's quite a journey.
It's great that the characters from the first couple of books play a large part in this book.
I would certainly recommend this book and the series as well.
