Will the blood of innocents release the evil trapped at Galaxy Farm?
A coven of witches has moved into the tiny town near Galaxy Farm. They know about the evil entity that lies trapped there, and they hope to resurrect it and set it free to renew its hunt of mankind. All they need for their sacrifices is the blood of innocent children. Only Laura Locke and Theresa Grissom have the skills to defeat this supernatural danger, but their previous brush with the evil at Galaxy Farm has shattered their relationship. If they can’t work together to stop the coven in time, hundreds will die. Starting with Theresa’s son.
Russell R. James was raised on Long Island, New York and spent too much time watching Chiller, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, and Dark Shadows, despite his parents’ warnings. Bookshelves full of Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe didn’t make things better. He graduated from Cornell University and the University of Central Florida.
After a tour flying helicopters with the U.S. Army, he now spins twisted tales best read in daylight.
His wife reads what he writes, rolls her eyes, and says “There is something seriously wrong with you.”
He has published the novels DARK INSPIRATION, SACRIFICE, BLACK MAGIC and DARK VENGEANCE, the compilations OUT OF TIME and TALES FROM BEYOND, as well as numerous short stories. He founded the Minnows Literary Group.
He and his wife share their home in sunny Florida with two cats.

DARK VENGEANCE is the sequel to DARK INSPIRATION. I enjoyed both, but I think I liked DARK INSPIRATION more, perhaps because it was a more focused kind of evil, primarily confined to Galaxy Farm. In DARK VENGEANCE the evil shoe is on the other foot, so to speak; or more succinctly, on the other gender, with the intended focus far more wide-ranging. I believe DARK VENGEANCE is also more gore-suffused, and likely to upset some sensitive readers as children are a large part of this story line.
This is the sequel I've been waiting for! When I read Russell James's debut novel, Dark Inspiration, I was blown away. It was one of the best ghost tales I'd read in a long, long time. James returns to the scene of the crime, literally, with Dark Vengeance. The town around the burned down Galaxy Farm has even darker secrets, much to survivor Laura Locke's dismay. Once I started reading, I toted the book with me everywhere I went (being extra careful at the beach because my copy is a signed copy!). Russell James's books just get better and better. He has become the master of all things magical and surreal. As a monster connoisseur, I fell in love with the longarex, a hellspawn of black magic that will haunt anyone's dreams. With perfect pacing and mounting terror, Dark Vengeance is a hell of a summer read.
A coven of witches know of the horrors that transpired near Galaxy Farm and they plan on taking full advantage of the evil residue left behind. All they need are children to help fuel their spell to summon the longarez beast.
Laura and Teresa will have to come together if they are to stop the coven from unleashing an unimaginable evil and save the children from a horrible fate.
I haven't read any previous adventures about Laura and Theresa, but the beginning of the story find them at each other's throat due to things that happened in another story.
This was a real middle of the road read for me. It was interesting enough that I followed it through to the end, but there were no "wow" or "cool" moments.
I had a few issues with how Laura was portrayed and some of the things she did. They didn't sit right with me.
The characters were not as developed as I would have liked with little to no real background.
The ending was sort of slow and a bit anti-climatic, but the pacing of the story was steady.
I might try something else by this author by not right now.
This was a light, simple read.
*I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review*
Well, there are times when you read a book purely to fulfill your obligation to a blog tour. This is not one of those times! I really enjoyed this book. I hadn't read the preceding story, Dark Inspiration, but I certainly want to now. It didn't take away from my enjoyment of Dark Vengeance, it simply piqued my interest in the first story.
An ancient evil, first explored in Dark Inspiration, resides at Galaxy Farm and has drawn in the wrong crowd. There is a good combination of confusion, suspicion and suspense in this novel. The reader is take on Laura's fight to protect two children she feels are being abused, but nobody believes her as there are no outward signs of problems. The children are just too perfect sending Laura's spidey senses tingling. If anything gave me pause, this did. Laura has an ability to sense when children are in need. I imagine having read the previous book would have helped me with this. However, it certainly didn't get in the way of enjoying the story and the way Laura's character is written made it believable. She is certainly a smart, determined and resourceful character and carries the story well. Together with her friend, Theresa, they fight against the menace that has besieged the town.
Would I recommend this book?
I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a good mystery, especially if you like to read about the paranormal. Mr James' prose is both entertaining and engaging. The pacing is great and kept me reading long after bedtime. I'm looking forward to reading Dark Inspiration and filling in those blanks. I'll post a review when I'm done.
I love to read books about witches and dark books too and this was definitely for me. After reading Dark Inspiration which I thought was fantastic I was worried the sequel would not be as good but Russell James penned a fantastic sequel in fact I would lean towards saying this one was even better than the first.
The character development was great and there was never a dull moment. I was utterly hooked from page one.
If you like reading things that are scary, you will love this series.
Great followup to Dark Inspiration. But the books stand alone well and you can read this one without having read Dark Inspiration and still enjoy it. More of the great writing I've come to expect from Russell James - unique, more imaginative twists on "ghost" or "witch" stories, well-written characters that you will feel like you know and love, action and suspense. You will enjoy every minute of this book.
