Cursed By Destiny

Rate this book
Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other 20-something girls—with one tiny exception: they're products of a backfired curse that has given each of them unique powers that make them, well, weird…...

Celia’s a girl in trouble.  Her heart is bound to Aric, but he is a pureblood were who must deny her or risk condemning his species to extinction.  And that’s just her love life. She’s also been called to take down a group of demon terrorists looking to overthrow the paranormal world. (No pressure.)

In order to bring them down, Celia must ally herself to Misha, the master vampire who has made no secret of his desire for her. And if that weren’t enough misfortune for one girl, a clairvoyant’s prediction could destroy Celia and Aric’s love for good. The only way to protect the world from unbridled supernatural terrorism is for Celia to bind herself to her destined mate. And that doesn’t appear to be Aric….

Please note that although this review won't contain spoilers for Cursed by Destiny it will include spoilers for previous books in the series.

Celia is devastated after Aric left her and his fast approaching wedding to another pureblood were isn't making her feel any happier. She can't stay living at home with her sisters surrounded by Aric's warriors but she can't be on her own thanks to the demons who are constantly trying to take her out so she has no other option but to accept Misha's offer of sanctuary. To take her mind off her broken heart Celia is focusing on learning better control of her powers and training to become as fast and strong as possible. For some reason the Tribe seem to be gunning for her and she is going to need every skill she can gain if she wants to have a chance of winning against them. Luckily she will always have her sisters at her back, they may not be living with her but they'd never leave her unprotected.

I have become a massive fan of the Weird Girls series since I first started reading it so have been eagerly waiting for this instalment, especially after Aric's actions during the last book! I still don't think I've fully recovered from the emotional roller coaster A Cursed Embrace took me on and Cecy Robson wasn't done with me yet! Cursed by Destiny was just as action packed as the previous books, in fact I think things have moved up a gear when it comes to the Tribe and the battles that Celia and her sisters are facing. Nobody is safe but Celia seems to be their main target and they are sending all the big guns in her direction. She doesn't have time to sit and cry over her broken heart, she's far too busy trying to stay alive!

I've never been a huge fan of Misha, I always felt he was creepy and I never really believed that he cared about Celia but I have to say he really grew on me in this book. We see a more protective side of him and it was nice that Celia had someone to rely on to help her. I still don't see them as a couple though so I'm happy to say I'm still on Team Aric! I do enjoy watching Celia spend time with the vampires though, the Catholic Schoolgirls always make me laugh with the outrageous things they come out with and I appreciate the way Misha pushes Celia when it comes to her training.

It's no secret that Aric's actions shocked and horrified me in the last book, he broke my heart right alongside Celia's and I still haven't forgiven him for that. I do feel like I have a better understanding for his actions after this book though, I do wish he'd done things differently and I'm still waiting for him to completely redeem himself but I've never once wanted Celia to give up on him. I just have to believe that they will find a way to be together, that after everything they've been through things will turn out right in the long run. It seems like a happy ending is a long way off though so I guess I'm going to have to learn some patience. There were times when I wanted to give Aric a good kick and tell him to buck his ideas up but he does make some steps in the right direction, let's just hope this continues in the next book.

There are so many things I want to talk about but I can't because I don't want to give spoilers. If you're already a fan of the series you're going to love Cursed by Destiny, it has all the humour, action and romance you'd expect plus so much more. I have really come to care about these characters and after the way things ended I can't wait for the next book! This is an auto-buy series for me and one I can't recommend highly enough.

I think I may have liked this book best due to Celia's crazy instructors.

End of last book, Aric tells Celia that even though they're mates, which supposedly means they're together forever on a soul level, he's leaving her because the Elders tell him he has to. He's a pure blood and the Elders are going to use him like a stud, marrying him off to another pure blood. So much for soulmates, Aric is a wimpy liar douche.

Celia leaves home and moves in with Misha at his vampire castle to learn more fighting techniques. She has two teachers, Chan, the Korean only speaking barrel shaped martial arts expert who likes to laugh and throw balls of electricity at her. And Ying Ying, the Mandarin only speaking yogi lady, who floats around in lotus pose while cackling and putting protection spells on things.

While living in Misha's guesthouse, she is daily subjected to his vampire appeal and the unsolicited advice from his sex crazed people (he's a master vamp and has underlings). The most unsolicited advice comes from the trio of Catholic school girl dressed vamps, usually about what shoes to wear while naked. They provided some humor.

Everyone is still battling the baddies, which means demons, demon babies, evil weres, witches, vamps. Lots of killing to be done.

I like the action of this book and Celia, but the guys in this book are all bratty and douchey. I really wouldn't care if any of them died. I think these books would be better without the romance.

Title: Cursed By Destiny
Series: Wird Girls #3
Author: Cecy Robson
Release Date: January 7th, 2014
Rating: 3.5 stars
Cliffhanger: Yes
HEA:

I will keep it short and simple.

As much as I loved previous books by Cecy Robson, Cursed by Destiny played on my nerves a little bit. The characters and writing style were still amazing, but the constant new drama addition made my head spin. There were enough tragic events to fill all series instead of one installment.

Aric is still my favorite and even thinking about Celia with other men made me angry. Although . I hope it's stays the same to the end and Celia will favor him too.

Rant's over. Now, I'm again waiting at least six months till next book. Kill me now.

*My Thoughts*

I should totally warn readers that before you read through this full review, you must know that I am absolutely a mess after reading Cursed by Destiny. So much so, that this is actually the third draft of my original review! I hesitated making outrageous commentary while huffing and puffing and tossing this book across the room more times than I cared to count.

As of this writing, I am glad that the po-po didn't come knocking on my door with all my utterly nonsensical screaming and bitching at certain characters, events, and especially the heart stopping ending which isn't all that surprising if you paid CLOSE attention to the events and characters of this book.

I will give Cecy loads of credit. She knows how to push the emotional envelope while entertaining her readers with a heart stopping full throttle story. She twists the story so much that in the end, it left me absolutely beyond understanding. Celia and her Wird Sisters (Taran, Shayna, and Emme) are literally tossed out of the frying pan and into the fire and they don't really get a chance to catch their breaths before yet another surprise is thrown in their direction.

It is non-stop action when it comes to the big bad Tribe coming after Celia with everything they have because she is different from any other supernatural on record. Legends of old, things you've never heard of before, and even people within her supposed support system that you can't trust them as far as you can throw them. You have no clue whether or not the person standing next to you is actually your friend, or the enemy who is seeking to destroy you because you may or may not have the means to permanently end the war.

As for the romance angle, readers of this series will definitely have their favorite between Aric and Misha. Then, if that weren't enough to keep you debating who is better for Celia, Cecy totally tosses you straight through a stained glass window by adding yet another character named Tye who attempts to charm his way into her life because of a prophecy.

I will say that up until a certain point, I didn't feel that Aric was in the story enough while Misha had plenty of time to sway Celia. Misha definitely bided his time and did everything under the sun and moon in order to win Celia's heart away from Aric. Aric is a restless soul who is under severe restraints thanks to the AWFUL were elders and thus he makes mistakes and stupid choices. He does have other choices, but I'm not sure if Cecy is willing to go that route just yet.

Just a fair warning to readers, I would absolutely suggest that you put away as much time as possible in order to read this book without stopping to do other things. Cecy is a true demon child who has broken my heart so many times and she goes the extra distance in Cursed by Destiny. I am not sure how I can go on without a bit of hope for a bright future for Celia and her sisters and especially the men they love. Cecy has left me in tatters and the only way I know how to fix this, is to have the next book in my greedy little hands immediately if not sooner!

A giveaway at UTC with my review...

Heart breaking yet again. Ms. Robson took me on a wild spin of emotions. Where I started just loving one hero, now I’m In love with three. Ah hell, I’m such a cheat. Misha and Aric were just amazing, and the ending left me with such a heart ache, I don’t know how I will last til the next installment of this series.

Ms. Robson has not written a book that did not deserve a five star rating. I just don’t think she can ever disappoint. As I said before in my previous reviews, Ms. Robson “can deliver”. Cursed by Destiny is another big hit.

There were so many twist, turns and WTF moments that half of the time I was reading this novel, I had my jaw dropped to the floor or insanely falling in love left and right. This novel yet again is filled with nail biting suspense, action, humor and a whole lot of romance.

Let me start with what’s going on in the Wird sisters’ chaotic life. Celia and her sisters are yet again find themselves in for a fight to save the world. They are not in Tahoe any more. Well, it starts there, but they have to step out of their comfort zone to search for a stone that will help beat the evil they are up against. Of course, it’s the evil that threatens to destroy human kind. Oh, it gets more violent, bloodier, and the stakes are bigger than ever. Some will get hurt, and sadly, there will be permanent damages that will affect everyone involved. My lips are sealed.

As for their love lives…That’s right, the fight to win Celia’s hand continues. Where I felt anger and pain at the end of A Cursed Embrace, now I’m feeling like a big cheat. I was adamant on starting a petition to have Celia pick Misha. But now, Aric had won my heart. And to boot, Ms. Robson added a new cat in town, Tye. I don’t want to give too much info but let me tell you, the race is pretty damn close. All men are hot, powerful and has a whole lot of sex appeal. I was literally a hot mess after reading this book.

One of the sisters will have a broken heart. I was not happy, but extreme measures must be done. The “matehood” for these shifters are so damn complicated. In the brighter side of love, I am excited for her new adventure. I’m hoping this sister gets her own novella to find her true love.

I would devour anything that Ms. Robson writes. I strongly recommend this series to PNR/UF readers and fans of Larissa Ione, Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter. Cecy Robson is pretty up there, IMO.

Considering I skimmed the last third of this novel, it is clearly time for me to part ways with this series. Robson's debut UF Series is not a bad one, but it just isn't one for me. Quite simply put, the focus on romance throughout these books just throws me off. With Sealed with a Curse, the first novel in this series, the love story was simply beginning and, therefore, kept to a minimum. With the second book, however, the romantic angst was notched up and with Cursed by Destiny it simply overtakes the plot. Although Celia, our protagonist, has her heart set on only one of the many suitors she possesses, the drama surrounding them is a little too much at this point. Not only does it progress one step forward - only to travel five steps back! - but the Elders who rule in this world are about as mature as thirteen-year-old teenage boys. Which is, to say, absolutely immature, silly, and nonsensical in their demands. Granted, the action sequences in these books are well-written and the familial dynamic within the series is extremely well fleshed-out, but they are such small components to this series at large that I remain disappointed.

For fans of romance, this series is a definite winner. Its sexual tension is off-the-charts and the humor is certainly welcome. For others, however, who anticipate a little more plot, a lot more action, and a definite dose of danger along with just a side of romance in their UF, this might not be the best bet.

Boohoo I need my man, I can't live without him. That was literally this entire book, can you believe that the heroine was considered badass.
And the hero is just a weak ass mofo who is honestly just pathetic.

Okay, its official! Cecy Robson is one of the grand dames of cliffhanger finishes and she does it with like two sentences. She layers a shock on top of a shock so that I just sit there staring at the last page with a whimpering 'no, it can't end there' on my lips before hoping like mad that the next book is coming out some time this year or praying for strength if the release date is more than a year off.

This was the third book in the series and the events follow closely what came before so these really need to be read in order.

Celia is still heart-broken over the loss of her relationship with Aric and dreading the day he is to marry Barbara the pure-bred were. In the meantime, she has started up training with Misha's people and gone out on missions to take down the demons and their allies. Creepily, her name is on the lips of the scary bad guys who come for her and strong attempts have been made on her life. It bothers her that Misha and his people along with her family end up in the line of fire when she has been attacked. Who has decided that she is now the big target?

The few glimpses she has of Aric show her that he is taking their separation just as badly, but the Elders hold firm against her particularly one of them. Misha wants her to see that he is there and waiting when she finally accepts that she must let go of Aric. And if that weren't complicated enough, a foretelling is made about her future in that her future children with yet a different male will bring peace right about the time a great evil is awakened and all must do their parts to bring it down.

This plot wasn't as tight as the last two and had a little dragging spot, but this in no wise made it a bad read. It focused on Celia and Aric's separation and more internal stuff for Celia as she learns just how strong she can be now that she is without Aric and looks at a future without him. She resists so many temptations in this one while holding strong to what she believes. Things are going on away from her and I loved the strong mystery element that runs through this one. That exciting race to the finish was something else. And while this is a book of separations, it doesn't skimp on the passion or the dry witty dialogue that had me chuckling aloud a few times.

I really enjoy these characters and not just the main ones. There are so many little stories and entwined stories going on. Now that one of the big villains is revealed in the end (gotta say that I saw that one coming as will most readers probably), I can't wait to see where things go from here with everyone.

Urban Fantasy fans get busy and grab this series up. Paranormal Romance fans, you won't be disappointed either.

My thanks to Penguin group for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review thoughts.

Ok so I'm just going to ignore that last sentence in the synopsis. It can't be true..well b/c it JUST CAN'T *cries uncontrollably* DONT DO THIS TO ME CECY!!!!!!! OH SO.MUCH.PAIN. I want to read this book but that last sentence UGH who am I kidding. I'm buying this sucker the minute it releases.

EDIT 2/13/14

OH MY GOSH!!!! My emotions are all over the place. What. The. Heck! That ending was not what I was expecting and OH MY GOSH what we find out if both shocking and totally awesome.....well the one thing is not the bad guy....GAH I don't even know if any of this makes sense. My best friend needs to hurry up and read this book so I can vent. It's not healthy hold all these emotions in. I can't...I just can't wait for the next one. This wait is going to be more torturous than the last one because of that ending. I have no idea what's going to happen now and that scares the crap out of me. PLEASE let the next one be coming out soon. lol anyways although I cried on parts of the books I loved it just like the first two. And like always Celia and her sisters make it on my top 12 of the year. :D Best series out there folks. Hands down the best. Don't believe me. Pick the books up and get ready for a bumpy ride.

Apparently, my previous assessment holds true: Cecy Robson sure knows how to write good romantic urban fantasy. She is, in fact, excellent at what she does and she keeps giving us one successful installment after another.

Cursed by Destiny is no different. A fabulous cast of characters, great action scenes, and a romance that will turn you into a puddle of goo someone will have to mop right off the floor. This is a series you can easily get invested in. I guarantee you will feel both joy and heartbreak with these characters, and you will laugh and cry along the way.

The unbreakable bond between our four sisters continues being the glue that holds the series together. In Cursed by Destiny, the sisters have chosen (or been forced to choose) different pats. They’ve had to leave their home and move elsewhere, but they remain close nevertheless. Every one of these girls is a heroine in her own right, the characters so well-rounded that I can easily imagine each of them getting a spin-off series. Although we got off to a rocky start, Taran has somehow become my favorite, her temper and honesty a most welcome detail in this fantastic series.

While I appreciate everything else about these books, the torturous romance is a constant source of struggle for me. Celia and Aric give a whole new meaning to the term ‘star-crossed lovers’ and to be honest, the whole thing is making me anxious, which isn’t something I tend to appreciate. I was always more fond of those series that feature a strong couple united against outside dangers. Celia and Aric’s relationship (or lack thereof) makes such an important part of this series that I often wish it could be different.

Celia’s friend Misha and his vampire servants are in charge of supplying comic relief, but although we came close, I’m glad a love triangle didn’t fully form between Celia, Aric and Misha. With everything that’s been going on with our favorite couple, there simply isn’t room for a third.

The Weird Sisters is a series I keep recommending to anyone who would listen. It is written to appeal to a much wider audience: thanks to all the humor and the romance, those who aren’t comfortable with dry, old school urban fantasy will have better luck with it, but there’s plenty of action and mythology to satisfy hard core UF fans like myself.

Quitting the series with this one. Celia and Aric never seem to catch a break that lasts more than 30 seconds. The evil one behind it all was obvious at about 30 percent, so the reveal on the final pages was anti-climactic. There is not enough relief from the constant angst and despair over Celia and Aric’s continuous separation to make the story enjoyable.

It’s a shame because it could have been excellent. Celia is a great kick-ass heroine, and she and her sisters are tremendous the way they battle together as a team using their respective super powers to take down the big baddies. Then there is Celia’s relationship with Misha and his vampire clan, which Ms. Robson balanced beautifully. The new romantic rival, Tye, is a great character, too. There is a lot to love in this series; it just cannot overcome the excessive ratio of despair-to-happiness, in my opinion.

Could the plot be any more obvious? and could the characters get any more dumb? The villain or the 'dark one' as they say was pretty obvious in my opinion but it took the characters entire book and the one before this to figure it out. And ofcourse the love life of Aric and Celia couldn't get any worse. *sigh* 1.75 stars

Do you know why this series is consistently only a 4 star read for me? ARIK. Arik is an asshat extraordinaire. At this point, I'm rooting for anyone BUT Arik as the hero. I cannot understand why the author wrote such an idiot for a hero figure. It boggles my mind.

We all have those authors that we absolutely adore and those series that we anxiously sit on pins and needles waiting for the next book to be released. Series that when we do get them into our hot little hands we want to weep for joy because we just know we are going to be blown away. Those books that we can't help but devour in one sitting even though we try like heck to make the story last but, we can't help it, we love the storyline and the characters way too much to not devour it, no matter how hard we try to make them last.

Cecy Robson and the Weird Girls Series are one such author and series for me. I have loved every single book, every single novella and have yet, to fail to devour them within hours of receiving them. I can't help it, I am hopelessly drawn into the beautiful world and characters that Ms. Robson has created and they have weaseled their way into my heart and I feel like they have become family. People that I love and care about desperately. People that I want to see succeed and get their happily ever after. I want each and every character to find love and happiness and peace. I want the best for them all, with, maybe the exception of good ole Mrs. M, but even she amuses me and I can't help but like the tough ornery old bird.

With the way the last book ended you would think that I would go into this with a little apprehension, with a little nervousness, even with a little fear, expecting my heart to break, but you know what? I didn't. I didn't because I completely and wholeheartedly trust Ms. Robson to give me a good story. To make me laugh along the way, cheer at their triumphs and cry at their failures and yes, maybe even break my heart a little along the way. I know without a doubt, that she loves these characters as much as I do and no matter what happens in this book, I trust her, I really do.

So it was with excitement and happiness that I opened the pages of this and dove right in and let me tell you, I loved this from page one all the way to the ending.

Once again Robson had me completely captivated and eagerly turning the pages. Celia is just as kick butt as always and maybe even more so now after the events in the last book. This girl is strong with a capital S but she is also loyal, loving and kind. Everything I want to be some day when I finally grow up.

She had a lot of rough challenges in this and by the end of the book I felt a little raw and worked over emotional wise but I loved every single minute of it and I wouldn't change a thing because I know everything that happened will only make her stronger and more fierce than ever. And with another new person to take care of, I know Celia will only strive harder to get what she wants and to protect those she loves.

I really loved Aric in this, he really redeemed himself from the last book and my heart broke for hi for some many different reasons.

Once again the wolf boys have captured my heart, I love Koda, Gem, Bren, Danny and Liam. They are just seriously good guys that you would love to have on your side.

Emma, Shayna and Taran are as kick butt as ever and they too are growing into pretty fierce strong warriors and fighters. I love them even more in this book because of it. How they are there for Celia when she needs them in whatever capacity that might be.

Misha, ah Misha, I can't help but have a spot spot for the little blood sucker. Yes he is a pain in the butt sometimes and yes he is a pervert and okay, he pushes Celia a little too much sometimes but I love him. I just can't resist his charm and the goodness I see in him. Even the Catholic “school girls” are starting to wear on me!

This book was probably my favorite yet but also more serious than the others. Things are getting dangerous and complicated and I really really just want the next book NOW. It is going to be a super long wait for it and I will be at the edge of my seat waiting.

Robson has once again created a master piece filled with longing, suspense, action, romance, danger, humor, friendship, family bond (in all forms) and kick butt heroines and heros that will work their way into your heart and mind and refuse to leave and that will be okay because you won't want them too.

I will be thinking about this one long after I have put it down, long after the review has been written and long after it's release. I hope you write fast Ms. Robson because I am so ready for the next!

This series has become an exercise in frustration. The author appears to be caught in a number of endless loops:
- Celia selflessly putting everyone else's needs before her own
- Her sisters putting their bro-ho hunks before Celia's happiness. They never take a stand against the elders on her behalf or ask their men/mates to. Nor do they ever rip into Aric for being hot/cold, instead everyone seems to be all too understanding of HIS pain, since he's the alpha, but no one seems to give a damn about Celia's pain.
- Celia is constantly humiliated, by her own powers (seriously an eagle with breasts?) and by her friends and her sisters' hunks insensitive thoughtless comments (which her sisters should be slapping them in the face for, but never do)
- Men constantly treat Celia like dirt, no matter how much they say they love/need her. The vampire Misha has constant sex with others and rubbing her face in it makes no sense. Aric's alpha male who says one thing, does another, is constantly hot and then cold. Celia's constant does he love me? Why is he acting so cold? Just mind-boggingly frustrating.
- The endless arguments everytime a dangerous situation comes up, the alpha males forbidding the sisters to get involved, lots of talk and posturing until the sisters pretty much do what they were going to do all along
- The oh so obvious bad guys, might as well wear neon signs the moment they appear as there is no subtly to them what so ever, which would be fine if this series was still a romance, now it's become action/adventure - so it needs much more clever plotting.
- Stuff happens that makes no sense and just makes Celia look even weaker than she already is; the vampire wedding for instance in which Celia's bullied to go along with. Sorry what? She says she's in love with Aric but continuously does all this stuff with Misha.
Seriously this series has become a retread of the same action and reactions over and over again. Worst of all Celia as the main character has become a sad wuss of a woman, ultra dependent upon Aric. Every time he gives her a cold look she bursts into tears, only to then be oh so happy when he tells her (for the twentieth time) I had to be mean to you in front of the others so no one would guess my true feelings.
Please Cecy - break the cycle - no one else can do it for you.

Skim read.

Aric finally decides to fight for Celia. A little too late. He is so pathetic and weak. Why couldn't he have fought for her when the Elders first decided to separate them?

Cursed by Destiny by Cecy Robson is the third book in the Weird Girls Series an action packed humorous Urban Fantasy series with a bit of romance for you romance lovers out there. This series is on my up and coming favorite paranormal series, so if you haven’t been reading it, you’ve been missing out. It has all of the great elements, lots of paranormal (witches, special powers, vampires, were’s, demons, etc…), good laughs to be had, a love triangle, and tons of ass kicking! These are some strong powerful women and the men who adore them.

So enough fan girl time with the series and on to the book itself; so basically when we left off hell had pretty much broke out in Tahoe and the demons had demolished a huge chuck of the paranormal world especially the pure bred wolves. Aric as a pure bred has a duty to his species to procreate with another pure bred and left Celia devastated. All she can do is move on and she has chosen to ally with Misha the master vampire that has never hidden the fact that he has desired her. With the demons gunning for Celia she can’t live with her sisters and potentially endanger them. Somehow word has reached the demons about Celia and they have a real hard on to take her out. The Wird sisters are no wilting flowers and they plunge into battle right next to their older sister. Seriously from beginning to end it is non-stop action and intense. Either there is an intense battle, intense training or intense passion at any given time within this novel and don’t forget the story while intense in this series even in the midst of an intense scene Cecy Robson always takes the time to give us a good chuckle.

So the love triangle, so I know you are dying to know what happens here. Aric is engaged to another pure bred, will he go through with the wedding and make the elders happy? Or will his mating instinct be too strong.. HA! Like Im going to tell you! I will admit to being on Team Aric tho. Yes, I thought him being a bit of a pansy by giving into the elders but Cecy does go a bit into it in this book so he’s not as much as a sissy as I was feeling for him before. So this may restore some reader’s faith in Aric and swing them back to Team Aric and away from Team Misha. Misha is not giving up; however, he still wants our fair Celia. What I don’t get about Misha is he wants Celia and claims to love her but he parades so many women in front of her. Ahhh Misha, I gotta tell you the way to a woman’s heart is not constantly proving you are a manwhore it will just make her feel like a notch in the belt. So that’s kinda my thoughts on Misha, maybe if he wasn’t such a manwhore I could have liked him more and been on Team Misha at least be a bit more discreet about it. Oh and to complicate things there is a new player in town, a lion who is “destined” to be the father of Celia’s babies! Oh yeah, Cecy Robson just upped the ante! How thrilled do you think Misa and Aric were to hear that?! Ha! Seriously there is never a dull moment in this book. Maybe not as emotionally charged as the last one but it is no less fantastic. I’ll pick up a Cecy Robson novel any day! Put her on my auto buy list for sure.

~ 4 Cursed Stars ~

Cursed by Destiny is book three in the Weird Girls series by Cecy Robson and we get no shortage of Ms. Robson usually action packed heart wrenching emotional read.

Ms. Robson has a way with bring out the action and heart stoping moments that make her books both overwhelmingly enjoyable and so emotional that I have to be in the wright state of mind before reading. Good god almighty I was excited and anxious to read Cursed By Destiny, though I had this book on my doorstep the day it came out I could not bring myself to read it write away. I was still so torn from the last book. As I am writing this I’m still in emotional overload and trying to digest how Celia can still stand and fight after all the emotional turmoil she has been dealt.

I enjoyed reading Cursed by Destiny , especially the action which there is no shortage that keeps the reader engrossed and the story going. I also enjoyed the plot twists. I saw one of them coming, but not the other and so I got a surprise, but their are a few things that have started to get to me with this sereis. One is the boyfriends to Celia’s sisters (they are werewolves) keep talking about Aric and how torn up he is, but they don’t seam to see that these comments affect Celia and make it harder for her to move on. I am frustrated that Celia has not gotten her HEA. I’m ready for her and Aric to stand together and show everyone that they are a power couple. As for the love triangle I’m not a fan of any triangles in any books I read. We have Misha who wants Celia, but he parades so many women around in front of her. No No Misha not a way to a women’s heart. Then we have Aric who is Celia’s mate but we all know whats going on in this department. Then to add more complicate to things a new player comes into town, a lion who is “destined” to be the father of Celia’s babies or is he?? As you can tell their is never a dull moment in Cursed by Destiny .

The Weird Girls are an adventures read, full of magic, action, and emotions that keep you coming back for more. I am anxiously awating A Cursed Bloodline. If you enjoy Urban Fantasy with a bit of romance with lots of action and heart stoping moments then I recommend giving the Weird Girls a try.

The WEIRD GIRL series appears to be moving further away from Urban Fantasy territory, and more into the Paranormal Romance zone with every installment. Celia & Aric’s romance has taken center stage, and the amount of action is on the decline. Now, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, just not what I expected when I originally picked up the first book. I also spent a significant amount of time thinking that I’d imagined a major twist only to stop mid-listen to read A CURSED MOON, and realize that yes, the novella is a must.

The primary culprit that’s prevented me from giving any of Cecy Robson’s novels a 5-star rating remains the on-again-off-again relationship between the protagonist and her mate. It’s been dragging on for three volumes, and although the couple does make a bit of headway in this latest addition, I strongly suspect that the drama is far from over. I enjoyed delving deeper into Aric’s side of the issue, and Celia’s maturity level with regards to her love life has come a long way, but there is still much work to be done.

The romance-centric plot also halted the Alliance / Tribe thread in its tracks to a certain extent. The pacing was much slower, I’d even go so far as to say that it dragged, and I finished this installment feeling like not a whole heck of a lot happened. The oldest Wird sister fine tuned her skills under Misha’s tutelage, and the other three siblings definitely helped to liven things up, but a key event being slipped into a novella is a personal pet peeve of mine, and I’m still not 100% sure how I feel about the ending.

I plan on checking out other titles that were narrated by Renée Chambliss because she has a nice range of character voices considering that these ones required two versions on account of their human and beast halves, and although the angst wasn’t my cup of tea, I thought that she expressed the on-page emotions wonderfully. I also think that the writing held her back a little, especially in this particular audiobook, and am curious to see what she’s capable of under different circumstances.

CURSED BY DESTINY was the lemon of the WEIRD GIRLS series. ~ 3.5 Stars

Warning: Contains Spoilers if you aren’t up on the series!
Celia Wird is still nursing a broken heart after left behind by her true love. Aric is from a long line of purebloods and he has been ordered by the Elder counsel to marry another pureblood to help replenish his species. But Celia has more problems than just Aric’s upcoming wedding to Barbara the bitch.

Since she is unwelcome at the were‘s Den, Celia has been living in guesthouse on the property of Master Vampire Misha and training with his vampires. The vampires’s fighting style is different from that of the wolves and Celia’s training is giving her an edge she didn’t have before and making her quite the powerful oddball. Living with Misha isn’t without it’s drawbacks, and I don’t just mean the fact that his family dress like the catholic school girls out of Bren’s favorite porno. Misha wants Celia to forget about the whipped Alpha dog and join him in his bed. Yet, even Misha’s constant attempts at seduction and the vamp’s pool on how long before Celia submits to the Master’s desires, isn’t Celia’s biggest problem.

Celia is not the girl with the most popular dance card at the Den’s Alliance celebration, not with the Elders wanting her out of Aric’s life, but she has caught the interest of another big cat shifter, Tye Gris de Leone, especially once the soothsayer, Destiny, declares to all at the party that it is Tye and Celia’s children who will save the world. As you can imagine, the news isn’t welcomed by the two men already fighting for Celia’s affection. But even her destined future with a poser like Tye isn’t Celia’s biggest problem.

The Tribe, which consists of evil witches and shifters who are releasing demons from Hell to impregnate unfortunate human women, has turned their full focus on Celia. Every creepy enemy whether all-powerful witch or newborn demon is whispering Celia’s name. Someone has ordered a Contract Hit straight out of Hell on Celia.

With too many men vying for her attention, except the one man she wants, and every evil demon coming for Celia personally, Celia has too much to handle and just when she had reached the end of her rope, her world is again turned upside down.

THOUGHTS:

This story is packed with drama, heartache and non-stop supernatural action. I don’t know whether to applaud or fear an author that has no problem throwing her characters under the bus. In A Cursed Embrace, Cecy Robson doesn’t hesitate to have the demon lord toss Celia’s sister, Shayna, out as live dinner for demons. But having your body chewed on while you scream is tame compared to where Cecy takes her characters in this book.

Although werelion Tye comes off as a pompous jerk, as he gets to know Celia, he drops the suave wereGod fascade and he becomes a wonderful and brave character. We can definitely get behind this were. The whole Aric, Misha and now Tye love quadrangle is getting a little soap opera-ish. And between the fun and flirty Tye and the sexy, hot Misha, I never understood why Celia went for the moody, and now untouchable Aric. I am still holding a grudge against Aric not only for walking away from Celia, but for his being jealous and possessive even though he is supposed to marry someone else. He walked away from Celia. He has to marry and start a family with someone else, but he looses his mind at the thought of her being with anyone else. Really?? If you can’t be with her, let her move on with her life.

I guessed who was behind all of Celia’s problems and don’t understand why it is not as obvious to everyone in the story. I can also see where the soap opera story arch is setting us up for the next story.

I like the characters in this series and I like the mostly fun storyline and banter. There are some very dark aspects of this story and I am hoping we soon see the end of the Demon/Tribe storyline.

Oh. My. God. Yeah, that's pretty much what I said after finishing Cursed by Destiny by the talented and yet just a tiny bit evil towards her readers, Cecy Robson! Why you may ask? Because of the last six words at the ending of this book. Yup, six words. Six simple little words. And they're only the end of the sentence. And the worst part? No word on book 4! Eek!

Okay, let's move onto my review. Because I truly did enjoy this one from beginning to end...minus the last six words which just drove me crazy! Only because of the unknown long length of time until the next book! Note that anything longer than tomorrow, is too long of a wait! All right, back on track here...things are a bit tense in Celia's world. Aric, the love of her life, her mate, is forced to marry another were in order to continue their species. Anara, the wolf in charge, is pretty much your all American (were) asshole. I really, do not like him, he's the driving force that keeps Celia and Aric apart.

But moving on, Celia has her hands full with trying to track down members of the Tribe, the group that's been giving her and the other supernaturals hell. For awhile, it seems unclear what our true course was going to be. Sure, Celia deals with the occasional Tribe threat and takes down what little members she can, but there's a much larger issue on the horizon and the Tribe will continue to be one of the main threats. Further in the story, another Tribe attempt at world domination--or something of the kind ;) --comes up and it will take everything Celia, her sisters and the pack have to defeat it.

The romance in this story becomes a much larger focus. Not the romantic scenes themselves but the arc of romance. Celia longs to be with Aric but fate is being her bitchy self and keeps them apart. In the meantime she has a lustful Misha on her tail and a new lion shifter, Tye stalks onto the scene. Destiny has decreed that Tye and Celia will have babies to help extend their species. Tye is all for the mating...Celia not so much. At first, Tye is bit of a pig. But then we get to see him in a different light towards the end. I'm not saying I am rooting for him. Not at all. But I don't hate him either. So the love situation isn't a square or a triangle really. There are just many obstacles keeping Celia and Aric apart. And of course Misha is set on winning Celia's heart, but I don't really see them together as a couple. Even though we get more Misha time in this one, I am not changing my position on still rooting for Aric to be the winner of Celia's heart.

Celia's sisters still play a pretty large role in story. At first in this series, I thought I would be overwhelmed with Celia and three sisters, but I find myself comfortable with them now. When they're apart is when I get upset, because the dynamics between the four women are just great! Each sister brings something to the group and not just with the powers and abilities, but their personalities. There's sweet, timid Emme, the outgoing Taran and the daring Shayna. Bren and Danny are in the story as well and I enjoyed seeing them again. Reading the novella, A Cursed Moon, lets you in on Danny's background, but it's not imperative or necessary that you read the novella. You'll just be in the know if you do.

Cursed by Destiny was a phenomenal read! This is yet another perfect read for all fans of Urban Fantasy! I loved it from beginning to end...minus the last six words! But truly, it's just the waiting that I hate, for now I am waiting first for information on the next book and then there's the wait for the book itself. But I still highly recommend reading this whenever you get the chance. I don't regret reading it early, it's just as I said, those last six words totally blew me away and strangely it was something I didn't see coming as I tend to read with an open mind and try not to make a thousand predictions while I read. So yes, read this as soon as possible! You will not be disappointed!

CURSED BY DESTINY Do You Believe in Destiny? Review & Giveaway!

E-Galley provided by publisher via Net Galley for review purposes. No remuneration was exchanged and all opinions presented herein are my own.

The poor Wird sisters, and Celia in particular, have totally gotten the shaft. Totally, and in every sense of the word. Cecy writes the characters with a lot of emotion and creates empathy in the reader, or at least me. I just want to slap a bunch of people with a big shovel to get them to behave and play nicely with each other. At one point in reading, I noted that Cecy writing was insouciant. The passage

“She was a beautiful woman with dark brows, waist length ebony hair, and blue eyes that glowed like melted sapphires. When she walked into a room and raised her arms, I could swear doves and butterflies flew out of her armpits.”

But all is not happy in the Lake Tahoe supernatural community or any community around the world as a bunch of disgruntled and pissed off supes have it in their head to take over. Celia and gang have to run all over the world to quell these bad ass uprisings with impunity. And Celia is a total badass herself. She’s also selfless, noble, loyal. I like how much Celia has grown into a leader and super strong fighting machine. She has some very handy skills, like being able to shift through the earth. Her sisters are also fabulous fighters.

And, there are very few people who treat her with the respect she deserves. Grrr!

The story has become complex in its activity but remains a simple good versus evil scenario, with various complications and defections. There are certainly enough asshats in the supernatural community — enough to rival congress. The vampires seem a bit slow to figure out who their inside infiltrator is and it costs lives. The wolves and other assorted shifters don’t see it at all. I don’t know why they all seem so blind; they are exactly like congress!

The title, of course has the word “destiny” in it. And, there is a prophecy involved. To me that implies something inescapable, regardless of anything anyone can do. I’m not sure I believe in destiny as prophecy, but it is a common device in books, especially speculative fiction. Do you believe in destiny via prophesy?

There are a few minor detractions:
I feel a little religion is seeping into the text. I have noticed in the last two books that [uppercase G] God is referenced more often. This can become an issue for me.
I found the action, the fighting action anyway, hard to follow – a problem, however, I attribute to my own reading style.
And, Aric a super alpha werewolf has a total lack of balls for a super alpha guy. Seriously, grow a pair!

Major cliffhanger ending with a revelation that isn’t totally surprising if you read between the lines.

I enjoy the series, and highly recommend it. It’s taken me a long time to accept that a book can be fabulous even with a few flaws. I would like to see a little less beating down of the main characters. Every so often something good has to happen or the story becomes a drag. This thing with Aric being a wienie has gone on long enough. This is the third full-length book in the series and is best read as part of the series.

Confession; I have mad love for the Weird Girls series and author Cecy Robson. When I got my hands on an early copy of Cursed by Destiny there may or may not have been a lot of fangirl squealing. Once again, Robson had me in her grips as she took me through this action–packed installment that gave us more of Aric and Celia while having us battle the Tribe. Mini review: My thoughts on closing the book-intense, kick-ass, action-packed and Cecy Robson is evil, evil, evil.

Celia has taken up residency in Misha’s guest house as she trains to take on the Tribe. She and her beast long for Aric while the pack continues to plan for his upcoming nuptials. Misha continues to put the move on Celia, and we learn clairvoyant prophecies about Celia and her mate saving the world. Only problem it’s not Aric. As if that wasn’t enough to make a girl cry the demon and supernatural community are trying to kill her.

I love the bond between Celia and her sisters; Taran, Shayna and Emme. These girls are tight, and I love how they have each other’s backs. We see growth in all of them regarding their skills, and I felt like we learned a little more about each of them. The love triangle fizzled as Celia made it clear to everyone where and with whom her heart lies. Misha revealed some of his softer side and his temper. He is snarky, and I continue to enjoy him and his minions. Celia actually begins to friend some of them, and I liked the banter between them. We see Aric suffer as he struggles between his loyalty to the pack and his love for Celia. There were moments where he made me angry, and I wanted him to grow a pair, but Robson explained pack rules and helped me understand his inner struggles. We see romantic development, and I truly had moments of happy. Robson introduced a new character a shifter lion named Tye. I loathed this king of the jungle from the moment I met him. Then Robson weaved her magic and made me think him noble. Damn her!

Cursed by Destiny was an intense, action packed ride with plenty of kick-ass action scenes. The growth in the girl’s abilities was fan-friggin-tastic and I cannot wait to see them grow stronger. We travel around the globe, fall from planes and even battle mythological beasts. Robson has tight control over the threads of her tale but she also likes to tease. She dangles what we crave in front of us making us feel complacent and then turns us upside down and the story twists leaving us winded and oddly begging for more. Oh please torture me some more! The last chapter had reveals and heartbreaking moments that left me spent and frantic for the next book. Like author Darynda Jones, Robson likes to leave you with a closing revelation in the last few sentences. These usually result in me screaming, OMG! What? Cecy Robson once again gave me one heck of a ride and left me at her mercy.

Cursed By Destiny continues the story of Cecelia Wird and her trials and tribulations as something not quite accepted in the supernatural community in Tahoe. Ms. Robson returns to her quirky writing style, adding more humor to this book compared to the last one. There's still angst, action, and adventure. There are hellos, goodbyes, the reveal of a bitter enemy, and a revisit with an older, minor character who makes the title of this book a play on words.

If you've read the series from the beginning, you will remember the Wird sisters' brush with Destiny--in the supernatural court when Mischa accused them of killing one of his vampires. Destiny is a power witch with the uncomfortable talent of being able to search one's entire memory. Cecelia had to undergo this form of "interrogation" in the opening novella. Destiny is back--with a precognitive declaration. I can't say more because I don't believe in spoilers.

I saw the closing hook coming. I suspected the villain. I loved discovering there was more to Mischa, the Master vampire, and I'm no longer completely pissed at Aric, the Were Alpha. Tye, a white lion shifter (and a big part of Destiny's pronouncement), is an intriguing new character and his shift was a happy surprise. (Pun intended.)

While this book didn't affect me as emotionally deeply as the last one, I still found it emotionally fulfilling-both funny and heartbreaking. At the same time, I'm beginning to tire of all the $h!+ being heaped on Cecelia. I'm hoping things alleviate some in the next book.

If you haven't read this series, start at the beginning. The political by-play, the world-building, and character arcs won't make sense. If you enjoy this genre, it's worth the time to read them all.
