One of the best written books I've ever read on self-respect and self-esteem. There are many books on this topic, and like this book, the concepts are very much the same. However, Michaels' prose, story examples and structure all produced a powerful effect of reaching in, touching me, and making me look at my life in a very different light. The highlights of the book are the chapter on Self-Acceptance and his sections on why bad things happen to us good people. Without sounding too aggressive or self-assured, his insights suggest the notion that we are not victims, as the challenges are needed for our growth, and equally important, force us to look at our life in ways we would not have otherwise seen if our lives were perfectly happy - that these events not only happen "to us", but "for us." There are many such poignant examples peppered throughout this lovely book that leaves the reader feeling that our imperfect lives, mistakes, failures, are in our hands, but for our ultimate joy and well-being - exactly as I expected from the title - and Chris Michaels conveyed this exceptionally well.

The Row Your Boat section of this book is almost verbatim from a lecture given by Dr. Wayne Dyer in 2001. There was also an unattributed line by Poe. It's been a long time since I read this book but I don't think the author gave proper credit.

"The Power of You" is a very thought-provoking work with so many underline-able passages! Though I don't agree 100% with the author, I do find the book challenging and potentially life-changing for readers...it was life-refreshing for me.

I didn’t realize how long ago this book was written so it makes sense how outdated it seems. Some of the main points were great but the delivery of those points were significantly lacking and weirdly stated.
Good takeaways:
1. Be yourself & don’t conform
2. Know yourself and what you want- then create a map to get there
3. Know that spirit and power resides within you and what’s mean for you is meant for you
4. Love yourself how you are
The takeaways were nice but I would not recommend this book. I feel like I read a book that never went to an editor, not because of the several grammar errors, but because of the overall flow (or the lack of flow I should say) of this book.
I would love to maybe see a newer edition but I don’t think it’d be worth it to read it again!

This book was absolute hate from page 1, because of talking about God and bible verses a lot and inserting god in every sentence and I am not Christian. However, after skipping the god chapter (chapter 1) I could not seriously could not put down the book. I love it, I learned a lot from it. It’s absolutely important for everyone who wants to create better future and improve self love, self-image, self-enlightenment. I really wanted to rate this book five stars, but again the god pieces just turned me off.

I don't remember when I read this Book, but I kept it permanently shelved for a reason..to go back and read when I need that internal pick-me-up.
I'm giving this 4/5 Stars for that reason alone, but once I re-read it, I will give my actual updated Review.

I believe I am called to a purpose.
I believe I possess talents and gifts not awakened.
I believe the bible is the infallible word of God.
I believe traditions of men makes the word of God ineffective.
I know God does not dwell in temples made with hands and that he dwells in me. The things I continue to struggle with are the things Dr. Michaels has
plainly written for my understanding.
I like this book. It compliments scripture and encourages a knowledge of scripture. "People are destroyed for a lack of knowledge". Dr. Michaels shares his knowledge. It makes sense that truth resides in the temple that is our body. This is a book to refer back to again and again.

I REALLY enjoyed this one. Usually a lot of self-help books are very christian God dependent, so I was happy to read that the author goes and talks about interchanging many words associated with God just as a Spirit. I was able to read the book easier and the writing stye and the way he talks with you, not at you was very nice to read. It didn't read textbook-like either.

I have read quite a few self-help and I really, really enjoyed this one. It actually made me want to do the exercises and for once, I really am planning on doing them.

Would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Very good summary of New Thought ideas conceerning god and how one's thoughts affect the universe. It has a number of practical suggestions and practices to help one become more attune with their thoughts and how they react to the world. It is written in a humerous warm style. The author is a great story teller.

He is a minister in the Centers for Spiritual Living (Religous Science) tradition.

i enjoy reading this book. It pretty long, but it has a lot of meaningful quotes and words. i gained a lot of insightful in it. Other than Dr Ernest holmest's book, this book is also good to read! i like how he mentioned "stay awake." And how he mentioned spirit, i have greater understanding of it. Thank you
