Decades define a young man's life as he goes from a virgin discovering his sexual orientation to a rock star fending off masses of lovestruck fans to a composer of Broadway musicals while an epic love for his best friend commands his heart, permeates his soul and flows through his music.
Jay Sparks lost his virginity and found his true sexual orientation at a rock festival on his eighteenth birthday. He also gave away his heart. Through the years, Jay's love for his best friend and first lover Matt Langdon has never died. The one thing Jay has always known to be true was that he and Matt loved each other. Even when they were apart, Jay always felt Matt's presence within him and beside him. When fate finally brings them back together, finding a way to blend their lives becomes a labor of love. Through their years together, the love they found at eighteen grows and matures but remains an eternal flame that burns unwavering in both their hearts.

I'm reviewing the audio edition. I received a free copy from Audiobook Boom and I have to thank them for introducing me to new authors. This is a new author for me and I really enjoyed the story. This is a sort of friends to lovers. The main characters Jay and Matt are best friends when they get sexually together at 18. Even though they have other hookups they always come back together. This story covers them from 18 to 44. I enjoy following characters and this is truly a love story. I have to agree with some of the other reviews. The narrator is wrong for this story. He never comes close to sounding like an 18 year old. Guy Veryzer does a good job narrating when the story matches his voice. I’m not sure the author nor the narrator have a choice in all the work they do.
This is a nice and sweet little short story, perhaps a bit too sweet for me.
Jay and Matt have been friends since they were eight years old, but it’s only on Jay’s birthday when he gets eighteen, that Matt makes a move. Jay has always had one love in his life, music, but that day he discovers he’s been wrong, because not only he feels the greatest happiness when Matt kisses him, he also feels complete. There is nothing he wants more than music and Matt.
This story follows Jay’s life, how he finds love, how he finds wholeness in his friendship with Matt, how he must be apart with his lover so that they can both follow their path in life, all the while saving their love for each other.
Their story is very sweet and angst free, there might be some bumps on their path but we don’t witness them. What made an impression in me was the frustration and jealousy I felt on Jay’s behalf during their “apart” time frame, when Jay had to tour with his band. It was quite strong and hit me unaware. But other than that this story flows almost like a dream with some hot scenes and two very devoted to their love men.
I recommend this to all romantics and fans of the everlasting love.
3.5. This is a really sweet, romantic story that spans from the time Matt and Jay are 18 until they're 44 years old. I was hooked at the first kiss, which takes place at a Great White concert with the song "Save Your Love" pounding in the background.
For 8 years, they're mostly apart while they grow up and follow their dreams (Jay's a rocker, Matt a fireman), but they're still very much in love. We catch up with them during the decades on Jay's birthday.
Just like "Entangled," another short story by this author with a friends to lovers theme and features musicians, I felt like I got a complete story despite the book's length.
Similar to another book i read. Jay and matt best friends from the age of 8. When they were 18 they were together on and off for 8 years even though they loved each other they spent years apart and were other people. It was they wanted things at the time but now they realize they only want each other and make things work.
I thought this story was really well done and I actually gave a crap what happened to these great guys which isn't easy when it's a short story. Very sweet with almost a "mate" type vibe to it. Loved it!
I thought they were so perfect for each other but different wants for life get in the way. I didn't like how they slept together, admitted love but they are out having sex with others, just took something away from it for me. Made me believe in them less, I suppose.
4 stars. Part of the Mixed Tape anthology. I really enjoyed this one and just how much time spanned from beginning to end. Loved how it all kept coming back to Jay and Matt, very sweet story!
