Book 3 in C.J. Lake's Attraction Series

Sky Dirente has barely accepted that her ski career was cut short when Jamie Bardo moves into the apartment directly above hers. Not only does her new neighbor park in her parking spot and drop his weights too hard on Sky's ceiling, but he also makes it impossible to stay mad at him. Instead, to Sky's surprise, Jamie is funny, charming, and annoyingly likable. As the two fall into a friendship, Sky begins to question her cynicism about men—and maybe even rethink her no-romance rule...

Wasn't this supposed to be his year ? New car, new job, new apartment - no drama. Everything is going smoothly until Jamie meets the girl who has been parking in his parking spot. And, after a series of events, he gets irreversibly drawn into his beautiful neighbor's complicated life. Will Jamie's entanglement with Sky make his "perfect year" even better—or end up breaking his heart?

~ 4 Stars ~

Sky High was my first book by C.J. Lake. I really enjoyed this story. It was a fun, flirty and sexy read. It is also a book that can be read in less than a day.

I thought the storyline and flow of the story was really good. I also enjoyed the characters and how well she developed them. My only real complaint about this book was the ending. I felt it was kind of abrupt. I would've loved to have an epilogue or even just another chapter or two completing their story better. Now don't get me wrong this is NOT a cliffhanger ending or one that leads you to believe there is more to their story, it just felt to quick. It's hard to explain except to say I wanted a little more.

Sky High is the third book in C.J. Lake's Attraction series, but can be read as a stand-alone. You will see the characters and couples from the previous books, but it doesn't take away from this story at all and you won't fell lost if you haven't read the other books.

One thing I really liked about this story was the author had the characters become friends first and really took their relationship at a believable pace. It was nice to see a couple start out as friends and not just jumping into bed the first time they meet. Although with that said I did have one frustration during their friendship…..I didn't like that Sky continued to "date" other guys while befriending Jamie. You could feel their attraction right away, so to me she shouldn't have continued on with the blind dates. Even if it was to help out her BFF's sister. I will say that except for a short term separation, this couple really didn't have any drama, yes the author tried to spice up the drama a little by having Jamie become jealous of Remy, but even that was short lived. I will say the chemistry that this couple had was off the charts. I thought the author did a really great job at conveying their feelings and creating tasteful and steamy sex scenes. Those scenes were truly some of my favorite parts of the book and not because of the sex, but because of the connection I could feel between Sky and Jamie.

I would recommend this book to any fan of the New Adult Genre. I thought this book was truly refreshing in the sense that it wasn't totally cliche and the Hero was actually a really sweet, funny and lovable guy. Yes I love my cocky jerks and alpha males, but it is nice to see a "nice" guy win in the end sometimes too. I know that I will for sure be reading the other books in this series, to see how the other couples come about.

Favorite Quotes:

“Things changed, dreams got replaced. The big for her, though, was that nothing had replaced hers yet.”

“His personality was a mix of laid-back confidence and quirky charm.”

“Sky, there’s nothing good about skipping pie on a national holiday. Let’s make that clear. You know when the Founding Fathers said ‘we hold these truths to be self-evident’? Yeah, that was one of them.”

“He’d seen it time and time again, growing up with his sisters. A guy would say something to one of them, and it would be all happy smiles – until she got on the phone, analyzing the conversation with all her friends, and then suddenly, she hated the dude.”

“I hate when they name ferocious storms after sweet old ladies who just baked you cookies, that’s all.”

My Review:

Sky High is a sweet love story that is simply written. It was a quick read, easy to follow, and full of likable characters and humorous banter. I adored the male lead, Jamie, as he was everything you would want in a boyfriend - open, funny, comfortable, easy going, and as his friend described him – “without game.” He was patient and gentle with Sky, who although possessing a feisty temper, was also still a bit fragile and healing from past hurts. I was entertained by the story which appeared to be a YA/NA hybrid, although once the sensual scenes finally kicked in, they were plenty steamy.

Sky High is book #3 in the Attraction Series by C.J. Lake, this is the first book I have read by this author and I was gifted a copy of the book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

This book is incredibly sweet, it’s hurt your teeth sweet and although it was lovely and honestly there is literally nothing offensive about it, I’m left feeling a little frustrated!!

Jamie is the typical funny, geeky guy and Sky is the angry but ultimately very sweet girl.

This book is set post college but had they not lived in their own flats I would have put them at closer to high school age.

Personally I struggled to get into the writing style of this book, I’m not sure what it is but in some parts the dialogue just didn’t flow quite right.

Strangely the sex which is the part that can be awkward and weird was great. The passion and chemistry Jamie and Sky had felt real and for me the sex scenes were the best part of the book.

I think I just struggled to relate to a couple whose biggest issue is a very short term long distance relationship.

This isn’t a bad book I think I have just moved on from NA as a reader. I need my stories to have a bit more depth and intensity.

Sky high gets 3 stars from me.

Sky High is the third book in The Attraction series by author C.J. Lake, but it is a standalone novel. This is a quick and simple read, but with a captivating and engaging plot.
The emotional depth and close-knit atmosphere created by author's writing style enhance the reader's connection to the protagonist's experiences and feelings. The romance story between Sky Dirente and her new neighbor Jamie Bardo is fascinating, well-paced, and full of surprises.
The pacing is skillfully designed so young adults are compelled to embark on a roller coaster ride of emotions, absorbed in the characters' fascinating experiences and eager to turn each successive page. All in all, I enjoyed this story and I will recommend reading it

Sky High is the third book in the Attraction Series by C. J. Lake, but it can be read as a standalone. This was my first book by C.J. Lake, and I didn't have a lot to go on when I started this book. With the blurb being so short, I will admit that I was mostly drawn in with the cover. While there were some really cute moments in this story, I did have a lot of issues with this one overall.

Jamie has set out to make this year his best yet. He already has the job, and with him moving into a new apartment and getting a new care, all that is left is the girl. So when his new neighbor Sky steals his parking spot, he never expects that she could be the girl for him. But as Jamie and Sky become friends, he helps her weed out the horrible men she keeps being set up with. Soon though Jamie is starting to wish that he was the man she was dating.

I liked Jamie. I thought that he was sweet and kind, funny and easy to get along with. He was such a great guy, and I really liked seeing him with not only Sky but also his friends. He is one of those guys that you just can't help but love. Plus he was also extremely sexy. Sky on the other hand was hard for me to connect to, and there were times that I almost didn't like her at all. She made some horrible decisions, she was on the whiny side, and she didn't seem to take much responsibility or blame when she had a part in them. At the end of the book when she up and leaves the country, Sky didn't seem to understand why Jamie would be upset and wasn't more supportive. She was irrationally mad about the situation when it was her decision in the first place. Then Jamie ends up apologizing for not being able to handle the distance, and Sky didn't really seem to feel any regret for leaving at all and that didn't feel right to me. So while these two had an obvious connection and chemistry, it was hard to really feel much for Sky because I thought that Jamie was definitely getting the short end of the stick here.

Besides Sky herself, I thought that this story had some problems as well. This book was told in third person and alternated between Sky and Jamie. But there were a couple of occasions when it would switch to first person, and that was a bit weird. Then Chapter 11 switches focus from Jamie and Sky to his friends Tragan and Andy. It was the only time that it happened in the entire book, but it was the whole chapter and there was no warning. It was just bizarre and I didn't really understand why it happened or was necessary. It didn't really add anything to the story, in fact it just seemed out of place and confusing for the reader. There was also one really glaring mistake here, and that was impossible for me to get over. I know one mistake isn't a big deal when it comes to the whole book, but it was the fact that this was an answer to a trivia question that they had given and ended up winning so it was really ridiculous to me that the author messed it up when it easily could have been looked up and fixed. When they are talking about the trivia game, Sky tells Jamie that she couldn't believe that he got the random question about the Arizona Cardinals correct and Jamie tells her that he loves baseball. The Arizona Cardinals are actually a football team in the NFL while the St. Louis Cardinals are a baseball team in the MLB. It wouldn't have been such a huge deal if this wasn't the answer to a trivia question, but because it was it really bothered me that the author and any editors/beta readers didn't catch that. Add that to the previous issues I mentioned and an extremely abrupt ending and this one was a bit of a disappointment for me. I think that this story could have been a really good one, but unfortunately this one just didn't deliver and felt more like a rough draft than a finished novel. I think with some editing and reworking this story could be better though and it did have promise. I did like Jamie's group of friends, so I would be interested in getting to know them all better.

Sky High was a total page-turner for me, it was one of those books that I could not put down. Needless to say it was a great book filled with romance and sexy scenes between the characters that just made the book that much more enjoyable to read.

At the very beginning we meet Jamie, he has just celebrated his birthday with his friends and on that day he decides to make it his year after being promoted at his job and moving to a new apartment. In his eyes his life has just gotten better and he is not going to let anyone ruining his year. After settling in he happens to meet one of his neighbors, Sky after a morning run. Soon the two of them start to talk and a friendship blossoms between that pulls them closer the more they spend time together. But what Jamie didn't expect was to fall in love with her and not being able to do anything without affecting their friendship. Now it is his turn to make her see that they might just be perfect together.

Sky is the complete opposite of Jamie in that she hasn't had the best year of her life, in fact, her luck with guys is not the best. This causes her to build walls around her so that she doesn't get hurt again. When she meet Jamie, she has an instant attraction towards him, but she doesn't want to make the first move. As she gets to know Jamie, she finds him charming and romantic which is hard to resist. When she accepts to go on blind dates, Jamie offers to give his advice on who is good for her and who isn't. Sky gladly accepts, but the more she goes on these blind dates, the more she starting to realize that they are not what she is looking for after all. Soon she has to face the fact that maybe Jamie is the right person for her in the end.

What I liked about the book was how the author makes the main characters friends first rather than quickly moving on into a relationship. The whole idea of dating and having Jamie assess whoever Sky is with was fun to read, especially since that got Jamie jealous and made him a bit overprotective towards her. There is truly a connection between the two that is hard to resist and their chemistry grows throughout the story as well. Although the story flows nicely, the ending could have been better with another chapter or two to fully bring the story to and end. Other than that I highly recommend reading this book, I will certainly be reading the last two previous books in the series. :)

When I was first approved for this title through XBT, I tried to read it -- and I just couldn't get past the first chapter. The group of boys (because that's the way they acted) simply annoyed me. Add in the Lily-factor (who was rude beyond belief), and the douchey comments, and the silly speech by Jamie that I totally would expect from an eighteen year old and not a twenty-something...

I couldn't do it.

Even when I skipped all the way ahead to the epilogue, as I'm prone to do, it didn't snag me. So I put it aside after making sure I noted when the review was due by. If I had to mark it DNF, I would.

But I gave it another good go -- and while that first chapter still did nothing for me, once I got to the part where Sky and Jamie meet? It was all over from there, Batman.

I don't know that I came up for air until I read the last words on the last page (which, gotta say, I was again a bit disappointed in the time lapse that happened; I'd have liked to see more of Sky's decision).

The friendship that became of Sky and Jamie's 'confrontation' over the prime parking spot was sweet. I enjoyed Jamie's desire to help Sky find a good date, even though as time went on, his feelings grew stronger than friendship. She was who he wanted to talk to, who he wanted to text, who he wanted to see, and seeing her with guy after guy, both around the apartment and at their local haunts, bothered him. I loved watching him come up with excuses as to why the newest date couldn't possibly be 'the one'.

I was slightly frustrated with Sky and her career choice, only because the path she ended up on truly wasn't the path she wanted -- so why she thought it was the answer to her faded dreams, I don't know... But she figured out the error of her ways, so it was all good.

To help with the odd-complexity that was Jamie, he had a word-of-the-day calendar and even made a point in using the words in conversation. I honestly found it comical because it didn't quite fit the picture I had of the almost immature Jamie we met in scene one (mind you, this was the first time I've 'met' this group of friends). I loved that Jamie forced Sky to look at her lost career and find the negatives of the lifestyle, making her remember that it wasn't all gold medals and happiness. And, of course, I loved that Jamie had sick-dying-man syndrome. What a baby. Lovable baby, but a baby nonetheless (like any sick man is).

Altogether, this was a fun read -- the second time I gave it a go. I'd be interested in reading the previous stories, and I must confess, I'm curious who the next friend to fall is.

Sky High (The Attraction #3)

Synopsis:

First, she stole my
parking spot. Then we became friends. Then I fell completely,
mind-torturingly in love with her. Oh, wait--I think that happened
first...

**Story contains explicit/steamy scenes that are intended for mature readers.**
**All books in C.J. Lake's Attraction Series are standalone novels with NO cliffhangers.**

My Review: Review copy provided

4 super sweet stars!

Jamie (H) just moved to his apartment, just had his twenty third birthday and just was promoted in his job. He has decided to make this the year of Jamie...work out, get a new car and maybe meet a girl.

Sky (h) is in a bad place, her dream career has been crushed and she doesn't know what to do with her life. She's had a tough go with boyfriends and is pretty anti-men putting up a wall around her. That is until she meets Jamie. Jamie is cute, charismatic, charming and annoying all at once but they soon find themselves to be close friends.

When Sky starts using her roommates sisters matchmaking service Jamie giver her his "unbiased" opinion. What happens when these friends both feel more but are to worried to tell each other? And what happens when Sky finally finds her path? Will it pull them apart?

This story was so fun! I loved both Sky and Jamie. Jamie was a good guy and kind of nerdy in a way which made him more lovable and real. I love reading about the good guys every now and again. They all don't have to be players and big alpha males to be sexy and hot. Sky was cute and feisty, she wasn't a stomping ground for Jamie or her friends. I loved how there wasn't the stereotypical misunderstandings or mess ups. Everything was handled in a very adult and respectful way which made me respect the characters.

This was the first book in the series I've read but I'm definitely interested in reading the others now.

Sky High was a short and sweet read but it didn’t exactly deliver all that I expected it to.

Some books that I have read make every character seem important no matter how trivial their role was, but this book wasn’t one of them. While reading this book, a lot of times I thought that a character wasn’t a significant part of the book and this didn’t just happen during the book, It also happened after I had finished it. I kept thinking about the book and all of the characters inside it and they just didn’t seem important enough even though I know they were.

What I’m trying to say here is that, in my opinion, this book lacked some sort of execution or finesse that could have taken it from being just another good book to an amazing one. I never for one second doubt that C.J. Lake holds talent for story writing but all I’m saying is that it needs a little bit more work.

Other than that, the story was sweet, romantic and also quite hot. Even though a lot of characters appeared to be minor, I did love the main characters and the chemistry between those two. The relationship between those two was something to envy. Their banter, their romance, their attraction toward one another was extremely enjoyable to read.

In the end, I wouldn’t say that reading this book was a waste of my time but I also won’t be reading it a second time. Nevertheless, I will be reading other works of C.J. Lake to look for better versions of Sky High. And when I read one like that, let me tell you we’ll have a winner on our hands.

This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. There are some people in this from previous books but you're not "missing" anything if you haven't read the other books.

I really liked Sky High because it wasn't your usual New Adult book were girl meets guy, girl and guy think each other are hot, girl and guy bone as soon as possible. I liked that Sky and Jamie were friends first. I've always heard that the best relationships are those that started out as friendships! Jamie and Sky's chemistry is palpable from the very beginning but I think that both of them were trying to fight it at first. There were moments where I was yelling at the book, "KISS ALREADY!". When the two of them finally realize that they're meant for each other, it just works so well in the story!

This is a really cute story with some good humor and some sexiness sprinkled in for good measure. Jamie surprised me when it came to the bedroom scenes, I didn't expect that from his sweet, geeky self, but it worked out very well!

Sky High is a fast-paced read. I finished it in two days. It flows well and is written well. I like the way that C.J. Lake developed the characters and their personalities throughout the book. I will be adding the rest of the series to my TBR list!

Why I picked this story up:

I signed up to review this because the style of the summary hinted at lots of humor, so even though it's the third book in a series, I looked at the low page number and told myself, "Just go with it."

What I found:

Cute is the only word I have for this. Jamie's down-to-earth, honest, cavalier, and a bit geeky personality was perfectly adorable, and I kept thinking, "It's so fluffy, I'm gonna die!" That stopped when things got heated, though. I didn't expect him to be like this in the sack, which made it kinda extra sexy. Sky and him made a very nice pair for of playful teasing, litte gestures of affection, and I love this kind of thing because it's what I have with my better half. ;)

So while I generally liked them both, but Jamie definitively more than Sky, and I thought the sexiness was sufficient, the story still had some bumpy parts. It read a bit too much like seperate scenes strung together, not perfectly fluent. I liked the long-distance part, and how Jamie handled it, but sadly I couldn't complete hit it with Sky, and there was a whole lot of potential that wasn't harvested. :(

Area Scan: Idea: 3/5 -- Style/Vocab: 4/5 -- Plot: 4/5 -- Heroine: 3/5 -- Hero: 5/5 -- Sidekicks: 3/5 -- Hearts: 4/5 -- Tears: 3/5 -- Heat: 5/5 -- Thrills: 3/5 -- Laughs: 5/5

I received a copy of this book from Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

Every romance novel is good. Even when it's bad, it's still good. Actually, that's wrong. I've read so many books, so I know there are really bad romance novels that go against my principles and my definition of love. While every lover story needs to be told, not every love story is told right. Fortunately, this book, Sky High, is one of those books that any reader will surely enjoy.

While it doesn't really break your heart, get you emotional, and make you cry yourself ugly, it will still warm your hearts because the romance was sweet and well-written. I liked the pacing of the book. I'm not the biggest fan of the characters, though. They kind of felt immature to me. I guess it's because I've been reading so many dark, deeper love stories lately that something like this is just a walk in the park for me. Too easy.

Still, I have to say that this is a good book that's worth checking out. I liked the hero and his adorable geekiness. I think the sweetness of this book is actually going to give me a toothache, but I'm not going to complain. After all, I do like my desserts.

Sweet, Sexy and Fun
This to me is the perfect kind of book for a hot, breezy summer day, sipping a cool drink in the shade. It's a sweet light read and was just plain fun to read. I loved the characters who are so well developed, real and relatable. This is my first read by this author even though this is the third book in the series. I am always a bit reluctant to begin reading a book in a series if I haven't read the previous books in the series but I was assured that this book can be read as a standalone and I wasn't disappointed. If I had not known there were previous books ahead of time I wouldn't have been able to tell at all. This was perfect as a standalone. I do intend to go back and read the first two though because I very much enjoyed this one. I was very generously provided a complimentary copy of this book for review by Xpresso Book Tours.

Sweet

This book was so well written. It was refreshing to read a romance novel that wasn't so cliche. The characters were amazing. Jamie is hilarious. It wasn't like other books where it's oh I meet you, fall in love at first sight and fall into your bed. Jamie and Sky became friends first and actually got to know each other
My favorite in this series
