Horning’s Chicks! is an ideal tool to show young children not only the basics of raising fuzzy, wee chicks to downy, adult chickens in one’s own backyard, but also how they can work together with their parents in ensuring that their new backyard pets lead a happy, healthy and safe life. The accompanying illustrations by Goodell gave the story warmth and vibrancy.
A family adopts tiny chicks, then cares for them as they grow into adults and have chicks of their own. The text and illustrations do a very nice job of illustrating basic chicken development, while still being accessible for beginning readers.
This was a really cute book. The illustrations were wonderful, and the vocabulary was fantastic! I love being able to give kids new words with visual aids to help them understand, especially when it's wrapped up in a nice little story book that they just think is fun to read together!
