A prophetic suspense. A watchman on the wall, spreading knowledge and hope in an unsettling and catastrophic world, the author is a scholar of the written word of ancient prophesies and takes you on a mind-bending journey (pilgrimage) that will enlighten you by connecting the dots of past, present and future events-many of which have come true during the writing of his "fictional" manuscript. While it may be construed as fact, as many real-world events are commingled throughout this story, it remains a work of fiction. The occurrences which have manifested prior to publication or those which may occur in the years to come are strictly coincidental. This prophetic suspense is meant to entertain, not necessarily inform, caution, warn or otherwise prepare you...
A big disappointment. I finished reading Coming Storm and felt like throwing it across the room. It is the most chaotic mess of rambling diatribe I have ever read. The editing is either so sub standard or non existent.
When I finished reading it I was shocked. Let's start with the cover. I should have been suspicious when I saw a typo on the spine. It reads Comimg not Coming. I opened it up to the publisher. I saw no publishing mark, not even a self publishing group. The artist that designed the cover was not given credits. There was no dedication, no acknowledgements.
The text itself jumps from this story about someone named Leo, whom I had the impression was based on the writers father, to strung out ramblings of what I can only say is a mad man.
Technically it is even worse. With blatant grammatical and spelling errors in the body of the text.
I am not sure if the publisher tried to tell the author the book was not ready. Or the author just went out and did his own publishing and didn't run it by an editor. Either way, someone somewhere should have stopped this book from being published.
I seldom write negative reviews but this book was so bad that I have no choice but to write one.
I am thankful to Goodreads, J.D. Loeb and / or the Publisher for this book, as I received this in a giveaway. I appreciate the Author's research, which, for the most part, I found interesting. However, some of the Scripture that was used seemed out of context when researched and the pathway of his view of the end times seemed very, very unrealistic. Obviously, piecing together the end times is nearly impossible for us and it IS impossible for us to know when it will happen. As Scripture tells us "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father" (Mark 13:32). With that being said, I appreciate the time and effort of the Author. I learned some interesting facts that I did research and verify.
Overall, I had to give this book only one star. The book was very difficult to read, their was absolutely no flow and the writing style was choppy, at best. The grammar was atrocious, I can't imagine it was proof read by anyone other than the Author. Nearly every page had at least one grammar or spelling mistake. Very unprofessional. It is a very difficult read. Items I wished the author would have elaborated on (major historical facts and happenings) were briefly stated; I am not sure if this was a lack of research or if the Author did not find the information relevant. Too much time was spent on the narrative, which was very weak and did not flow. I spent a lot of time during the first half of the book trying to immerse myself into it, however, by the second half I was hoping I could just finish the book and pushed through rather quickly.
Bottom line: It's unfortunate, but I cannot recommend this book. If the Author would create a non-fiction piece, focusing on historical facts and tying those together (leaving the narrative out) and if a proof reader was hired, I think this could be a very interesting read.
Again, my appreciation to the Author and Goodreads for this opportunity.
This book had taken me a long time to read. I had trouble staying interested in many parts. At first when I found out I won the book I was excited because I love prophecy/apocalyptic type books, but when I started reading it I felt fairly disappointed. The author had definitely done his research and I learned a lot about the different religions in his book, but it mostly just felt like it was rambling on and I often felt confused and disoriented by all the information jumbled together. There were many parts in the book that were hard to read because of typing errors, I don't know if that was because the author was translating the religious texts in some parts and wanted to keep it written the same, but it would've been a much easier read with a little more correct word layout. I also noticed the title error on the spine that said "The Comiming(instead of "Coming")of the Black Flags." I was going to give this book one star at first but because I did learn some interesting religious prophecies I upped my one star review to a two-star review.
I won a copy of The Coming Storm of the Black Flags in a Goodreads giveaway and was looking forward to reading it. On the day it arrived I started it. I usually enjoy apocalyptic fiction and this novel has a religious slant. J.D. Loeb has done a lot of research into this and it shows in this book. Unfortunately for me I found this novel hard to follow and a bit disjointed. It combines information from three major religions and their end of times prophecies and brings it all together. I am sure that people who enjoy this type of story such as the Left Behind series will like it but I had trouble staying interested. 2.5 stars out of 5.
