I want people to know this is a true story! This book is written about my childhood bestfriend. I am considered "Mia" in the book! I sat down with Vanessa, the author of this book , in her house and I just remember talking about my friend as if she were still here. I remember the reasoning behind this book. We wanted this book to get out to as many young adults as possible to spread the word that addiction is very real! We want people to get over the stigma that surrounds addiction. As much as i miss my bestfriend I am happy she is no longer struggling with the demons inside her. If her story can save just one person than that is all that matters!

I know the affects that addiction can cause a family and I know the horrible reminders it can leave behind. This book hurt so bad and to know it was of truth, practically gutted me. It’s one of those books that you want to turn your head, because the reality of it is so gut wrenching.
The story is told through the eyes of young Ashley, a teenager addicted to drugs and we journey into her life, a life filled with a haunting past. A life filled with confused thoughts.

I decided to give this book a chance when I saw it advertised on Facebook, and I'm glad I did. This book was great from beginning to end. The story-line was deep and the characters were real and believable. I highly recommend this book, and i will check out future books from this author.

Well told story about a young girl's struggles with addiction. Ashley's pain was felt thru the pages. I highly recommend this story to all!

Coping with life is hard to do when your past haunts you everyday. 18 year old Ashley finds herself in this situation. Having no where else to turn she finds comfort in partying & doing drugs to keep her emotions and thoughts at bay nothing will stop them completely.Stuck in between a rock & a hard place Ashley turns to her aunt but will the Kennedy Family be able to handle the heartbreak that's coming there way?
I recommend this book to every young person, teen and adult. This was a real eye opener to whats going on in our own homes and don't even know it.From the first page it pulls you in by your heartstrings and don't let go. Your emotions are really tied into the character until the very last page. After this book I think we all will be holding our love ones a little more tighter. Great Job.

I love seeing so many positive reviews of this book. Being as though, this is. True story and dear to my heart, as I am Mia in the book. The letter at the end are my own words for my childhood friend. I believe this book should be mandatory to read in schools in order to shed light on the topic that is often hushed in society.
It has been twelve years since Ashley has passed away. She would have been 30 this year and I often wonder how her life would be now. I miss her constantly but know she is no longer dealing with her inner demons. I’m blessed to have her as my guardian angel.

Wow what a powerful read. This book is definitely an eye opener regarding addiction.The fact that the main character in the story was so young and going through so much brought tears to my eyes.Vanessa Kirby spelled out the signs some young people may exhibit when they are addicted to drugs and the affect addiction can have on a family.Great Job on this story and my prayers go out to the Masters family.

A must read for all teens and parents
This book really ties together at the end. There is a lack of detail on the drug use and it was more focused on the child abuse ash went through when she was a child but it was still very entertaining. You have to read the book all the way to the end that's when the drug use really comes into play and it all ties together.

Based on a true story, Ashley is a smart, athletic 17 year old girl who is secretly addicted to heroin and trying her best not to get caught. The saddest part is this…her "Friends" have it to her as a joke! The things that these young people go thru in order to get their next fix is downright sad.
For that reason, I am highly recommending this book to all parents of teenage children. After you've read it, please encourage your children to read it and then have that TALK with them. Hopefully, it will help save someone's life!

After reading "Heroin Heartbreak", I feel more insightful & empathetic to addictions. Based on true life events...I think Amber's emotional, dark, drug addiction would be a good lesson for ALL High School students.

Addiction
So many families deal with addiction. It is very heartbreaking to see what this disease does to an entire family. Not only does it destroy the person with the addiction. It also destroys the family. My heart goes out to the family who lost a soul.
