This is basically a teaser scene of Apple White, daughter of Snow White, getting ready to leave for her Legacy Year at the boarding school, Ever After High. She seems a bit shallow, but the little details in this scene were very cute. I had to chuckle at her being a fan of the band One Reflection. Only a couple pages long, but I think it gives a good taste of things to come.

Now that I've started reading Ever After High: The Storybook of Legends, I realized that this story is just chapter 2 of that book. No need to read this story or Ever After High: Raven Queen's Story (chapter 1) if you plan on reading the main book anyway. The rest of the character stories appear to be actual bonus material not included in the book, so I recommend reading those for some additional insight to some of the characters that aren't focused on as much as Apple and Raven.

Well that went much more quickly than I expected. Just a quick look at Apple's life before she leaves for her Legacy Year at Ever After High.

So cool, but very short.
Have you ever wondered what life was like for Snow White after the prince saved her and she became queen? I have. This little tale answers some of that question.
Apple is Snow White's daughter. That alone should have fairytale fans reading the story.
We don't learn much, it is a rather short story, like I said. What we do learn is she is becoming a young lady, and being groomed to become queen.
I know the book, Storybook of Legends, will go into greater detail. I look forward to that.
This might be too short for some, but I liked it. It gives you the taste for more.

Reading this after Ravens, I totally feel like this wasn't as interesting. it was shorter and we got less of a personality peek. I'm still interested about Apple and hope we learn lots more about her in the full novel. But a cute short nonetheless.

A great start to a popular series. I can see why it's quite well liked. The characters give me a sense that they will be strong role models. I'll be interested in reading the main books and not just these novellas.

apple's mirrorphone played a measure of one reflection's "you don't know you're charming" to announce she'd received another hex message.

this little short story was actually absolutely adorable. it made me feel all warm and fuzzy and giggly the whole time i was reading it. i would've liked more, but these are intended for children, so i'm not going to complain about the length. this series would be absolutely perfect to read to children as bedtime stories, maybe one per night or something, so that's definitely something to consider.

i love ever after high - the art is adorable, the story is adorable, the characters are adorable. but! i also think they're good role models for little girls and boys everywhere. what people call "destiny" dictates that your role in life is chosen before you're even born, you're born with a destination, an assignment -- but why? and are you, really? can't you choose your own path? be our own person? of course you can. there's nothing wrong with doing what you're told, if it makes you happy and it's what you feel, but there's nothing wrong with doing what you want to, either. as long as you're happy, it's okay. being strong is okay. being weak is okay. being girly is okay. being tomboyish is okay. vanity is okay, ambition is okay, insecurity is okay, self-doubt is okay, dating someone who's not your pre-determined match or in your "clique" because you just like them is okay, having a mean streak is okay. you are who you are and who you are is just peachy. i love that.

these books/this cartoon is very, very girl power to me without being anti-male in the slightest. it's perfect.

was that all everyone saw in her? a perfect profile? a beauty like her mother? surely being snow white meant more than just looking pretty and having black hair.

legacy year would be her year. the beginning to her story. but she didn't just want to prove that she was pretty enough to be a queen, black hair or blonde. she wanted to prove that she could rule like one.

A few of my nieces are Monster High and Ever After High mad at the moment and so when I spotted that there was a range of free short e-book stories available I thought I would give them a quick read to see what some of the fuss is about and to be honest I absolutely love both series' dolls too and I am hoping they are still popular and about when my daughter gets to 5/6+.

This short story (Apple White's story who is the daughter of Snow White) is very short and maybe takes around 4 minutes maximum to read but if you are an adult and your daughter or nieces etc are Ever After High mad then I would definitely recommend reading this short story as I have had a big smile on my face from start to finish (as with the other short stories in the range) and even laughed out loud a couple of times. Although the short stories are obviously aimed at children who are fans of Ever After High they are quite simply funny and worth a quick read and especially as they are free. Some funny parts for me were for example where it describes her dad standing at the ready for battle even though he's never been in a battle and is only famous for rescuing a comatose girl in a glass coffin and the part where Apple White and Briar Beauty are texting each other or rather hexing each other with her MirrorPhone. I was laughing at One Reflection and their "You don't know you're charming" song.
Of course if you are an Ever After High fan then you will love this short story too but if you get your mum or dad to read this story with you then you will put a big smile on their face too.
Brilliant little short story.

Series Summary: Totally didn't like the idea and wonder why I chose these books again. Being a fan of fairytales I was looking forward to see what kind of twist but this is going to be one series that I am truly going to stay away from.

The children were snobby and the people no matter the age were mentally damaged. I mean who has ever suffered in life would hope their children would willing suffer the same fate just to be happily ever after? So wrong in so many accounts.

And the modern touch was interesting but the way the author made parodies and pans of it while also giving the story a "fairytale valley girl" touch just made want to cringe. This isn't the way fairytales are suppose to go.....

And don't even mention the shoe fetish that every character seems to go through *smh*.

Book Summary: This story was definitely a disappointment to me since the main character Apple is so stuck with herself and almost personality-less as she is the "fairest" of all and even way better looking than her mom.

She seems to be so self-focused on herself while her main issue is what shoes should she pack with her or her blond, not black, hair messing up her fairytale. And why is she suppose to be one of the main characters? Does she really think that you can be good queen material just since you thrown candies and coins to your subjects. As they say get real princess....

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this prequel. After watching the show on Netflix, I assumed that this book series would feature shallow characters with an interesting twist on traditional fairy tales. I had fairly low expectations for this short little story, but it was actually quite good and a very quick read.
I liked the way Hale sets of the struggles of each character. The story gives a brief introduction of the character and inserts some of the initial conflict that comes later in the series. I especially liked how Hale addressed Apple's blonde hair, something that had been nagging at me while watching the show.
The descriptions in this story were very cool and often humorous, such as, "Her voice was high and a little squeaky, as if all that time spent lost in the woods with squirrels had taken its toll."
This was a good prequel for the series and I look forward to reading the actual Ever After High books.

I will probably give the same review for all of the short stories in this series. They are meant to give you a little bit of background on the kids of our favorite fairy tale characters. These kids all go to the same school, and their sophomore year they have to relive their parents fairy tale. The premise is really cute, and I see it as the anti Monster High. I have even touted it that way for parents who want something like Monster High with the dolls and cartoons, but do not want monsters a part of their kids up bringing.

If there was ever a stereotypical cheerleader it is Apple White. In any way you take that it fits. The happy giddy family, with a hidden attitude.

The story follows Apple white, the daughter of Snow White. The character of Apple white comes across as arrogant but I grow to liking her a bit by the end. We basically just see her getting ready and leaving to go to school (ever after high). There were some great little details making it very humorous and showing the modern world of the Snow White fairy tale story. For example she was listening to a band called One Reflection on her Mirrorphone and the song was called "you don't know your charming". This genuinely had me laughing out loud! It's a cute little "teaser"'story.

It is hard to live up to your mother's reputation especially when that mother happens to be Snow White. Poor blonde haired Apple is off to her second year of school at "Ever After High" and worries that she is unable to deal with the expectations of her parents and the villagers. With the help of her best friend, Briar Beauty and the rest of their group, will Apple be able to live up to the "fairest in the land" title?

This was offered for free from iBooks. It's a fun, very quick read (it probably took me ten minutes to read at the most), but it's enjoyable. It makes you want to see more from these characters, which is probably the point of them being offered for free. Intended for a pretty young audience, but still something fun for an adult to read quickly.

Probably the shortest of the stories, but still interesting.

Ok so this little add on was totally adorable and since it was free the only complaint I have about this short story is that it was actually a part of the first book. I felt that if you are saying this is something different, gave it a different title then it should be different. Other than that if you have all the others, and you are looking to see if you will like this series these little stories give you an idea of the world and the writing style.

I liked it as like a mini introduction type novella, it has definitely set the tone for the series but could have used a couple more pages to really cinch it all together- but maybe that will come with the other introductory novels like the Raven Queen, Briar Rose and Madeline Hatter? Perhaps they all join to create the atmosphere and introduce the characters.

Definitely a positive start to the series, I'm looking forward to reading the next instalment.

Now that the THE STORYBOOK OF LEGENDS, the first book in the EVER AFTER series, has been published, this eBook is a complete waste of reader's time. This story is actually chapter 2 of the aforementioned book meant as a teaser to sell books rather than a bonus story.

A short story that barely introduces us to this character, only letting us know that she is packing to attend her Legacy year of school at Ever After High.

The writing and dialogue could definitely use work and Apple seems …controlling. A definite Royal. But her last thought redeems her somewhat: she values leadership over beauty or vanity.
