In a quote that surfaces frequently in blogosphere, the Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, reportedly "Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. ... (H)e lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."
As a busy professional, you can no doubt relate. In business, time is money. And it seems the more technology improves to make our lives easier, the less time we seem to spend investing in ourselves. Baby Boomer and Generation X professionals often struggle to find time for fitness among the crush of professional, family and social obligations. As a result, many 40+ professionals who once were in great shape are less fit and more stressed than ever. They're wondering how things got this way.
That's where Back in the Saddle to 10 Steps to Reclaiming Athletic Fitness for the Busy Professional comes in. Part informational, part inspirational, the book includes anecdotes from and interviews with past and present athletes - from Olympians Jesse Owens to Sanya Richards-Ross - as well as strategies to find time for exercise from a 40-something marketing professional and certified fitness trainer.
Back in the Saddle to Fit includes a fitness plan that requires only 3.5 percent of your time each week. It discusses the "60/40 Proposition" of nutrition and exercise, and how to "eat like an adult" when faced with unhealthy food options. It also includes tips for achieving six-pack abdominals, even at 40+.
If you have allowed the complexities of life to get you off your fitness game, this book is the informational and motivational kick-start for you. It's game on. Ready, set. Let's go.
First, I love the cover showing that you can stay fit in a professional working world. This book cover all stages of life for me. I really enjoy reading the middle age of life of big belly what I call trying to keep my stomach flat. Letting us know that we have the choice along with making more money the older we get to eat right with fitness and food choices. A good book for you who think no time for yourself to stay fit unless you like seeing a doctor all the times. Get this book and stay fit. Renee' Booker
Thank you Goodreads for a spot on fitness book. Back in the Saddle to Fit by Darrell Ewing was a page turner! Seriously, I could not put it down. The book just flowed and I wanted more information. Concise! Precise! Not only is this book for busy professionals but it is ideal for those who don't want to but need to exercise. Ewing provides the reader with well researched nutrition and exercise information simplified by an excellent communications professional and fitness trainer.
Ewing has some good advice for the over-40 crowd (like me) about what it takes to be fit in a busy life. He tackles some misconceptions and takes away some excuses in a practical and non-technical manner. He uses real examples and also sets a good example himself. While I did receive this book as a first-reads giveaway, I was looking for guidance in my own fitness journey, and would recommend this book to other busy mid-life professionals who are also seeking better fitness.
