In the future, thousands of people live underwater in self-contained communities called Bio-Cylinders. Such a life requires strict arbitrary laws and capricious female mayors.
Just don’t tell the crazy wench you want to get flushed out into the ocean.
As the name says, it's a parody, so you have to read Wool to understand it. I didn't find it very funny. The wife was a big "Yo Mamma" joke and all of the comedy was making fun of her and her farts. A bit too low-brow for my liking.
Written as a short-story parody of Hugh Howey's "WOOL", this takes the silo out of the ground & instead under water. It makes some well deserved cracks regarding elevators & some of the more absurd or questionable parts of the Silo Sagas. But I'm a little disappointed by what is pretty much is an exact copy of the first couple chapters of "WOOL" except with a sarcastic twist & some low-brow versions of the characters. However, this is just a very, very short story & since it did make me laugh by poking fun at a few of the things I had questioned in the original story, I can overlook the bit of adolescence that comes through.
If you can spare the buck, & you have read "WOOL" & are up for having a laugh at the book's expense, then you should check out "SILK".
Bought this book because Hugh Howie, the author of "Wool" which this book pokes fun at, mentioned it on his blog. Although it did make me laugh out loud at parts (I want a twinkie too!), I felt it was way too short to be 99 cents.
Funny. It is indeed, a parody of Wool. Very amusing. I found it did poke fun at some of the things in Wool. It was a very entertaining and a short read. Yes, the humorous is low brow, part of it's charm.
