Quackers Wants to Fly is about a young duck anxious to learn to fly. He talks to his friends at the pond; Gertrude the Goose, Dena the Dragonfly, Ollie the Owl, and Clementine, a little girl duck who is also frustrated because she is anxious to fly. Finally, Quackers and Clementine learn to fly. The moral of the story is that patience is a virtue.
This is so cute!!!! Artist Jason Currie is just the person to partner with teacher/writer Susan Wolff. I wish I could have posters of the pages of this book because the art is awesome. This is the story of a little duck named Quackers (I love the name) who wants to fly but is just really not ready. His mom and dad and animal friends try to comfort and encourage him but he really wants to fly NOW. I have worked with young kids for decades and am a mom so I understand how waiting is hard for young children and it is obvious that Susan Wolff also both understands and empathizes with young children by the way she wrote this gentle, sweet story. Kids are going to love the artwork and enjoy the story that tells them to be patient and keep trying but to never give up. This is a good positive message wrapped up with gorgeous illustrations.
Young, and old, need to learn patience in life. And, what a great book to start learning this concept! Quackers and his friends at the pond share their experiences and help each other learn. Your child will be delighted with the story and the illustrations are fabulous. I can't wait to share more of their stories with my grandson.
