I loved this book, it spoke to me, I came across the pack and book on a trip to Glastonbury, sadly my youngest daughter's father destroyed many of my packs of tarot, and books and this pack and book sadly did not survive, and as one of many a casualty in my collection I've been reading and collecting tarot since I was 16 and to find a pack and book that combined the mysteries of the runes in a tarot book, was too much I had to buy, I used the pack regularly, loved the book, the way it broke down the folklore and meaning of each rune made using the pack straight forward and easy, intuition simply came into play, I did not even have to try. I recommend this pack and book to anyone seeking to understand more about themselves, their environment and the people around them. In short love this book and pack,I don't normally buy something twice but I'm happy to invest in replacing the pack I lost. Can't wait to get my hands on the book again and start my journey anew with the runes. Whoever wrote it was intune with the runes, on many levels. I applaud the author for this pack and book. I have to recommend any seeker of knowledge and self buy this book and pack.

The first thing I must point out is that this book is currently out of publication. I happened to find a copy online which was around $50. After purchasing it, the other listing for it was $450 and the last time I checked it was nearing $1,000 for this same book. It didn’t come with the cards, it’s just the guide book. Is it worth hundreds or even a thousand dollars? No. It’s worth maybe $20. If it had the cards included, perhaps $40-50 would be realistic.

That said, I had bought this because I wanted Silver Ravenwolf’s perspective on the runes. Truthfully, it didn’t feel like there was much of her influence on this book. It didn’t read like other other writings. That doesn’t make or break this book but it was something that was a bit jarring at first. The words used are… interesting. For historical facts, I would refer to other books on the market. If you take this as a contemporary take on the runes, you may find more out of it.

As for the meaning of the runes, I found it interesting to include colors, totems, crystals, and deities for each one. This is great if you are expanding the use of runes outside of divination. However, the meanings weren’t the same as I’ve found in other books and resources online. Of course, there are so many opinions and interpretations that these may work with you. I found I liked Taking Up the Runes to be a better resource for the meanings of them.

The spells/rituals in the back of this book were a nice addition. It does have a heavy Wiccan vibe to them. If that is your style, you’ll likely love it. If you’re hard pressed on being a reconstructionist, this isn’t the book for you.

Overall, I’m fine with the amount I paid for this book. There are bits and pieces I’ll be incorporating into my own Book of Shadows. However, if you’re looking into this book and it’s over $50, really consider why you’re wanting this book. It is a guidebook after all for a deck that is so rarely included, you’re really just getting it for the information written.
