A fight for life through a Lovecratian hell. ALONE AGAINST A HORDE OF MONSTERS. Elijah awakens in a cage, and can't remember who he is or how he got there. He's trapped in a laboratory full of dead scientists, at the bottom sub-level of a corrupt pharmaceutical company. He climbs floor after floor in a desperate attempt to escape, facing off against vivisected abominations resembling H.P. Lovecraft's most terrifying nightmare creatures. While fighting his way through bat-winged flight gaunts, behemoth-sized wendigo mules, killer centipedes with wasp heads that spit corrosive acid, and human-sized, man-eating polyps, he gleans the truth about his captors...and himself... He worked for this evil company. He lied, manipulated and womanized his way from being a lowly intern up to middle management. He had an affair with his supervisor to get promoted. He knew something was wrong, but turned a blind eye to advance his career. And in return, they threatened to kill his wife and daughter unless he participated in their inhumane experiments. Elijah thinks it's not too late to make things right. He can redeem himself. He can rescue his family and make his captors pay for their crimes. But first, he has to make it out of that building alive.

I was pleasantly surprised by how excitingly written this piece of work by my friend and fellow creative, Quan Williams, is. It turned out a little less darker than I expected from the cover page, but it was no less thrilling as I had imagined. There were good moments, cleverly structured into the plot, like the meetings and encounters of real human beings still alive and joining forces with Elijah, the main character, to survive. The backstory too was skilfully written into the flow of the plot, nothing seemed forced, and Quan displayed skill as not just a writer, but as a story-teller. I can't say more than that, but as a show of how good the story really is, I was quite hooked on it, reading with interest to know what came next, even if I didn't read it all immediately. There was definitely the thrill felt, of a work that was succinctly written, allowing for a perfection unachievable otherwise. My one main gripe is with the so-called "rage" that overcomes Elijah at times. It is not his main trump, as there are occasions of such danger that he cannot possibly resort to his "Godmode" rage to win the battle for him. Like the last fight with the amalgamation. It will be cool if he could become a furious fighting machine whenever he was in battle and his life was in danger. Then again, it might not work out so well for the flow of the story; I can see instances of how that can be so. I will end this review by saying, given how cheap it is selling on smashwords, to grab yourself a copy, and like me, read it and then wait in anticipation for the second book, that must come.

GodMode, by Quan Williams is a well written, fast paced, action packed novel. The novel held me spellbound from the first page to the last page. Quan Williams writes very descriptive creatures for each level of the building that Elijah has to fight his way through to make it out.

The characters are described in such a vivid manner, that the reader can feel them. Following the story line from Elijah’s point of view is interesting, to say the least. Elijah is a very in depth character. He awakes without a memory; Who is he? What is he doing here? Etc… The reader has the pleasure of learning about him, as Elijah learns about himself.

GodMode has a unique story line. Personally, I love reading science fiction and GodMode was a very refreshing read.

Quan Williams gives us a story that causes the reader to ask questions; Could this really happen? Has something similar to this been covered up? Have any of us been duped by a pharmaceutical company? Etc…

I loved the book and highly recommend it to all science fiction lovers.

As soon as I read the title and saw the cover art I decided that this was I book I wanted to read. After reading the jacket I knew that this was a book I wanted to start soon. I took it with me to read on a flight and when it was time to land I found myself more than half way through the book and very much looking forward to reading the rest of it.

The title made me think of old school video games and I was not disappointed. The story read like an old school video game, from the levels to the monsters. I has great suspense, leaving your wondering what is around the next corner and on the next level. The story progresses smoothly and leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to video game lovers and sci-fi fans alike.
