Lou is a private detective working for an unknown agency when she gets the call. One of the most well-known, wealthy alpha families in corporate America wants to hire her and her partner to find out who really killed the eldest son and heir. To her surprise, it's the alpha the entire world has decided killed his older brother. As a recessive, weak omega she doesn't expect him or his aide to recognize what she is, let alone right away. For the first time in her life, Lou is affected by an alpha's pheromones, and now she has to figure out what the fudge to do about it and solve the murder of the century.
The first installment of this duet was intriguing. So much so when I saw the second part of Lucy’s story was out I ran out to read it.
For me, this is a story that could have been great. The writing is uneven, rehashing the same thing over and over again. We get it. Lucy, Cas, and Liam are insane. So much real estate is spent on the characters telling us they are unhinged that we only get glimpses of their own development.
I still don’t understand why Lucy automatically defaults to how her father is, she is. But that is what emotional abuse can do to you. The whole concept of this duet is lost as the trio tries to find their footing in the most toxic way possible. Oh sure, that may be amazing if the development were there.
I wanted so badly to love this story but found I just couldn’t. Others may enjoy it but it’s not for me.
The writing was…in need of a good haircut? It was too repetitive, always bringing back the same infos we already knew from book 1, the same insecurities, the same thoughts. It was going round in circles!! Hence why it felt so draaaagginng for most of the book. It really started to pick up around the 65% mark. PLEASE PLEASE, for book 3, let’s be a bit more straightforward and plot driven.
Anyway, I don’t think they caught the real culprit. At least, I hope they didn’t. That would be a bit underwhelming.
ALSO! I wanna know more abt Frankie fr…and River apparently.
Ugh, I really loved the first book in this series but the second fell flat. The characters were much too in their own heads, and this seem to have contributed to the plot lagging. I'll read the third just because the first was so good, and I hope it makes up for the middle. As always, the spice was excellent.
Soooo close to dnf’ing and ended up skimming the last 10%. Did not enjoy this second book as much as the first. The basement scene was just a bit too toxic for me tbh. Lucy (h) was just as manipulative and toxic as Liam (H) and it got so boring towards the 66% mark. Liam took waaaaaaay too long dancing around the fact that he was the boy from her childhood. Also, 🍊-boy needed to calm down 😵💫 He kept referring to how ‘logical’ and ‘rational’ as well as what a ‘genius’ Lucy is, but she seemed like a damn airhead so many times throughout the book 🤡 She kept going on and on and on about the pheromones thing even after being told SO MANY TIIIMES that that was not the sole reason for Liam and Cas’ interest… I GET abandonment issues are a thing, but my God - give it a break and move on, girl! It gets tiring with all the repetition 🙃 too much cheek biting too 🥱 Won’t even bother with the third book

Tell me your character is extremely insecure without saying she is insecure
Lame. Chapter after Chapter this books characters just moan and complain about their insecurities and fears. This author writes books but says almost nothing. Says things that have already been said over and over. Sad, cuz I really like the plot, but the story goes nowhere.
I am SO invested in this book, in Lucy… in her Alphas! Hell even in Frankie!! I love this series, the storyline, the writing is incredible and detailed. My ONLY issue with the series is there’s not a lot of world building. Like we kinda go along and terms/designations/traits are kinda thrown at you and you bumble along till it makes a bit of sense. Descriptive introductions would be great to have at the front of this series. As an avid OV fan I’m finding things in these books that I’ve never encountered in other OV stories so some information on how this world differs from others would be appreciated. And now that I’m at the end of book two, which I knew this could not be the last one of the series since the writing is so detailed, I’m still confused and at a loss about a lot of the characters and what their designations entail. Heck the term zeta was thrown out and I’ve only encountered that designation maybe one other time in a book. Also what the heck, dropping a bomb about Frankie then skipping off like there was not a ton more to unpack there… So while I love the writing, and the detail assigned to the storyline I’m hoping all the little plot holes and world building actually gets tied up in the last book. Because I love the series! Lucy is the best omega I’ve read about and I’ve probably encountered 1000s of omega characters in my reading endeavors. I love how she comes across as so emotionally and intellectually different. She’s a bad arse in a number of ways but that big beautiful mind of hers is awe inspiring! I’m so over the top in love with Liam and Cas until I’m just sick! lol To be who they are, to the world and in private but they let their primitive tendencies overtake them with Lucy, and don’t give not one $h!t about it! Beautiful! There’s a scene maybe 1/2 to 1/3 of the way through where Liam lets it all hang out! All his psycho, alpha, love struck emotions and it’s beautiful! Made me so jelly I didn’t have a Legacy alpha. Since I’m doomed to wait until June so I can help Lucy solve this mystery guess I’ll dive into my next book. Happy Reading Friends!
This is the second book in this trilogy (the author says the characters wouldn’t let it be a duet), and it picks up where the cliffhanger from book one left off. Our heroine is having to come face to face with the brutality that defines her alphas, now that Lucy has come out of her heat. There is also the murder of Liam’s brother to solve, and Lucy starts delving further into that case.
For the most part, this engaging, steamy romance, is developing the relationship between Lucy, Liam and Cas, as they uncover each others secrets and feelings. The murder isn’t yet solved, though there are some pretty strong leads the trio are following, and there are also some political battles yet to come, which promise to be intriguing.
As others have said, the title and series title, don’t really define the book well, it’s a rather engrossing read in the omegaverse, so expect brutal alphas, weirdness in physiology, and over the top sexiness. Despite all that, it’s actually got quite a bit of depth to the story, and an enthralling plot. I’m looking forward to seeing where the mystery eventually leads, and what all the political ramifications of events in this book will ensue.
An entertaining and enjoyable omegaverse RH romance, this one is for the hardcore romance lovers that don’t mind all the things mentioned in the CW at the front of the book.
Honestly, I don't know if I can give this a proper review. I was so excited for this book and to see the end, get the closure on this story, find out who the killer was. Only to find out at the end of the second book in the "duet" that it's actually a trilogy and I'll have to wait another month plus. The author is a self proclaimed "autistic author", but as another autistic adult, I'm very upset with her. She should know how incredibly frustrating it is to read something like this, expecting an ending only to be lied to and told it's a trilogy. I have no problem with it being a trilogy, but call it that from the start. Or at the very least, put the author's note in the beginning that you put at the end. It's the same as a trigger warning, if people don't want to be spoiled, they don't have to read it. I really love this story and I'm glad she is giving the characters the story and development they deserve, but it feels like a betrayal to her readers to not give them a heads up when they expected a conclusion.

And Emma Dean #$&ing aced this omegaverse. The details, the plot, the character development, the finale, everything was *chefs kiss*
I don't write reviews, I read a lot but never review but I just had to for this.
I was so upset when I finished the second book and it just ended on a cliffhanger and it was supposed to be a duet. Luckily I only had to wait a month and the final book was released and I couldn't be more satisfied with the conclusion to Lucy's story.
Make sure to read the trigger warnings, but this was the perfect series for me and I cannot wait for Frankie's.
I saw the post that said that part 2 of the dust was out. I thought it was providence since I had just started book one later then anticipated. But now go find out it's not a duet any longer and part 3 will release in May?! And that same pre order page says book 3 of 4? You should really know this is part psychological thriller. I did love this story and I'm sure fans will also. But the wait is going to hurt.
Omg like all the books I've read by Emma I'm caught up in the story too the last word. I was so ready for this series to continue but even more pissed 😤 I have to wait for the end of lou's story. Such a dark sexy quirky triad. How will this mystery be solved? I can't wait to see how pack valentines story ends and how the next packs story begins.
This second book is why more emotional than anything. Still no end to who killed, you do get the little twist at the end but that’s it. WTF! I want more plot then the smut sorry but two books in and it’s boring. I did enjoy the emotional scenes with them.
I’m so glad they bonded! She feels so comfortable and it’s wonderful! The alphas are so amazing taking care of her every want and need. Ugh. Love them. I can’t wait to see who killed Gideon.
Book 2 done, and still no answers. But lots of action. Lucy is bonded with her two alphas. Melinda is still shady AF. Will anything come from Frankie and the ice chick from the Steele pack? I guess book 3 is next.
Such a great continuation of Lou aka Lucy's, story of finding love and a murderer! A lot going on, and so many unexpected things come up, ending on a bit of a cliffhanger. So excited to finish the story 😁🔥
I love Lucy, Cas, and Liam. They balance the crazy so well. I feel like I know them the emotions are so well detailed that you forget you are reading fiction. Thank you, Emma!!
