Louisa Hoffman has just endured a humiliating annulment, which has left her bitter and determined never to marry again. Having tarnished her reputation in New York, she flees to the Colorado Territory to live with her sisters, Hannah and Paulina, who have happily married and settled.
Determined to teach in Denver City, she is ready to live her dream, but the distracting children of a neighbor have caught her attention. A little girl by the name of Annie and her two brothers have been running amok, feral and starving, as their father has taken to the bottle in his grief over his departed wife. Not being able to mind her own business, Louisa secretly feeds the children, growing closer to them by the day. When their father, Matthias Montgomery, is struck in the head by a wooden beam, she takes over his house, nursing the rugged miner back to health.
Through loss and disappointment, Louisa realizes that God might have something else planned for her, although she fights the attraction she feels for Matthias, determined never to trust a man again. However, she underestimates the charm of the Montgomery children, especially Annie, who tugs at her heartstrings. Louisa’s far more entrenched in their lives than she could have imagined…and living without them is quickly becoming unthinkable.
This is the third book in The Colorado Brides Series, chronicling the lives of the Hoffman sisters and their adventures in finding love out west.

This is the tale of a girl coming to Denver City to be with her sisters and teach school. She meets Matt and his three children and they were living in dire circumstances. He was having a terrible time coping with being a widower and unruly children. Whiskey is the way he has taken to deal with his wreck of a life. Louisa takes it upon herself to rescue this family and seems to be ruining her reputation and she has be terminated from her beloved job. You will love discovering how they find their happily ever after.
Deceived by her first husband, Louisa gets an annulment and heads west to join her sisters in Denver. Swearing off men, she meets up with the Montgomery children running wild and unsupervised. Mathew has been wallowing in misery since the death of his wife. Will he be able to straighten out his life before he loses his family? Will Denver be celebrating another Hoffman wedding?
This book was okay. I felt sorry for the kids who were neglected by their alcoholic father. Louisa obviously adores children, so it made sense that she was as deeply involved as possible. Moving on in the series!
I am loving this series. This is a little unusual. The sister involved here has had an "unfortunate" marriage (not going to say more so as not to "spoil it) but not wanting to stay around to face the scandal her annulment would cause, she decides to go West and settle close to her sisters. She is not interested in marriage at all...going to be the town's schoolmarm. Needless to say, that isn't the way things turned out (again...no spoilers here, read the book). I loved the story. So completely different from the first two of the series....at least until almost the end. I hope to get more of the series and I know that I'll enjoy each and every one of them. Each is well written, the characters are well developed, there is humor and more. Love them.
Book Three: The third sister suffers a devastating marriage and loss of her place in Society. She heads for Denver City determined to NEVER marry again and to become a teacher - which is why she graduated from University! Happy to be with two of her other sisters, far from New York, she starts her life over. This story proves we have little control over our own fates...and promises we make to ourselves are not always what's best for us. Read on...
I'm really enjoying this series - they are all short novels only taking a few hours to read. The storyline is very good and I like all the characters in the series so far. The addition of the children adds to my overall enjoyment of these books. I've already downloaded book 4 which I'll read tomorrow.
After her annulment she travels too Colorado to be with her sisters. There she plans to teach school and remain unmarried. Seeing neglected children she cannot ignore their plight. She takes care of the children and ends up wed to their widowed father.
