Rate this book
The world of Peter Hanson, emerging true crime writer, is about to fall apart. He is informed by the police that both his parents have been found dead in their bed. The case is quickly closed under the claims of natural causes, despite the doubts of Robert Cooper, the homicide investigator in charge of the case.
Peter goes through a challenging phase where grief mixes with strange manifestations and hideous nightmares to the point where he starts having doubts about his state of mind: the buzz of flies, the smell of rot and the excruciating laments of grieving souls.
Thanks to the support of Jack Sullivan, a former priest specialized in demonic exorcisms, Peter realizes that sanity and logic have very little to do with the events unfolding. A dark force is at play: an ancient and insatiable evil that feeds off negative human emotion is on the hunt for a new prey.

This hit home for me. Both my parents died recently. I probably should have waited to read this, but I couldn't help myself. I felt this book... both in the feels and creepy factors. Another amazing book by Tarsitano!

This one got my attention almost right away, but who wouldn't be intrigued when a gruesome murder happens basically off the jump? Multiple POVs give us a more thorough understanding of the Hollow and how it came to this once quiet town.

Once you start, you won't want to stop

Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down!
If you're into scary books like me then this is the one for you!! I do most of my reading at night and many nights I would have nightmares. Though, I have zero complaints. I LOVE being scared!!
I found when I wasn't reading Hollow, I was thinking about what was going to happen next!
This is a MUST READ especially if you're a horror fan!

This review will be crossed between Goodreads and Amazon.

Peter Hanson a up and coming True Crime writer, who had moved to New Orleans after falling in love with the allure of the city, is summoned back home to Indianapolis Indiana after he gets a calling in forming him of the sudden, and mysterious deaths of both of his parents. Along with Detective Robert Cooper, and former Catholic Church Exorcist Jack Sullivan, he quickly realizes there is a force at play that is ancient and very much beyond his comprehension, and it is hungry, very hungry.

Horror can be a interesting genre to dabble in, it is very much the case of either, you get it, in the case of author such as Stephen King, Clive Barker, and H.P Lovecraft, or you very much dont and fall flat on your face in the attempt, and I'm happy to say Davide Tarsitano hit this one out of the park.

Mr. Tarsitano did his due diligence in research for this novel, both into the working of the catholic church and how an exorcism is truly done, and into Native American Folklore, showing the utmost respect for the topic and making sure it is properly and accurately represented in the book.

And it leads to a book that while in my opinion, isnt so much scary , it is quite gripping, pulling you along expertly from page to page, giving you little breadcrumbs each chapter that makes you want to keep reading and not put it down, to see what happens next. Also a special note to how the book is broken down into sections, with each section being focused on a character in the book, and how those sections play off the preceding ones, is masterfully done and adds to the pull and gravitas of the story, leading to an ending that while, not one that is going to effect you in a profound way or set a new standard in the genre, was quite acceptable, and made me feel like as a reader my time with the book, was respected and rewarded.

If you have enjoy movies like The Exorcist, and enjoy Native American Lore done right with the proper respect, mixed with a psychological edge, a villian that preys off of real life things that all of us experience more then a few times through the course of our life, and enough suspense, you could easily find yourself, making a day of it and reading through this book in one sitting, I cannot recommend this book enough.

Out now!

Thank you to @twinsandtalent & the author for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review!

If you love books involving:
☞supernatural elements
☞folklore
☞atmospheric writing
☞grief
☞disillusionment of religious institutions
☞multiple POVs
☞body horror

...then this book is for you!

"The magic had vanished, and the horror was the only thing that remained."

Wow! I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed this book, as I was approached to read it & hadn't seen it anywhere beforehand. The author did an amazing job weaving the theme of grief throughout & differentiating it for each character in their own respective sections (as opposed to switching POVs after every chapter). The men were allowed to cry repeatedly and unabashedly, which is a huge relief from the toxic masculinity written by most male authors. Great atmospheric writing put me right into the story, like I was watching a limited series; however, I was thrown out at times by the absence of Oxford commas. Religion, spirituality, and the paranormal were juxtaposed and combined in multiple horrifying scenes.

This is definitely one of my favorites of 2023, & I'd be open to more from Davide Tarsitano.

Also, no! The dog doesn’t die!

Summary: Peter is a true crime novelist, whose life is set into a tail spin when he learns of the unexpected death of his parents. Their deaths are quickly dismissed but Peter suspects something more sinister is at work. Nightmares then begin to unfold for him....

Thoughts: I liked the plot and enjoy the ride with this. I wanted more punch from the story as a whole... however, I did love how this book touches on grief and intertwines emotion with horror. Thank you

This story captured me from the beginning. Although it is horror at heart, there is a depth that had me sitting with my thoughts at the end. You feel for the characters as they are developed to show how different experiences of grief have shaped them. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a new read!

From the beginning this was a gripping story, which made it difficult to put down. I found the author’s writing to be visually horrifying and made me uneasy about my surroundings. I also appreciate how the characters were written in the story. Out of all the grief horror books I read in 2023, the way Tarsitano displays the raw emotion of losing a loved one (in this case two) has stayed with me. At times, Peter’s grief felt so real that my heart kept breaking with what he was experiencing.

Overall, I really enjoyed how the author blended various religions to create a hair raising yet also heartbreaking story. I would recommend this to readers who enjoy horror mysteries set near woody setting, and even more so for fans of grief horror.

I was a Goodreads Giveaway winner for the Kindle edition of this book and I give it 4.5 stars because this book did not disappoint me!

I enjoy horror movies, the suspense, the build up, that creepy or eerie feeling you get while watching and that lingers afterwards… I was worried this book wouldn’t deliver… but Tarsitano brought it to life from the pages.

Multiple deaths under mysterious circumstances plague a small group of people, seemingly unconnected but something very sinister is at play that unites them all. An insatiable evil, a writer, a detective, and a former priest, and no it’s not the opening line for a bad joke. The evil must be stopped but what is it and at what price?

The story is a combination of police procedural and supernatural/paranormal horror. Multiple points-of-view solidify the unfolding of this story, and most of them start from the same beginning, but some a little before and it adds depth to the horror factor. The end is so beautiful for the grotesque scenes that I was like yes a lovely bow to wrap this up!

I gave it 4.5 stars only because I really wanted more from Lynn Harris’ point of view to add depth and even more just creepy factor to the evil. Or if not her maybe more from the evil’s view. But I can’t knock it too much because the book was great!

In a one word review, I would describe Davide Tarsitano’s “Hollow” as…Unique.

The story is original as can be, and is a true stand alone experience in the haunted & demonic possession horror sub-genres. The author has done extensive research on the subject matter to which he presents, and it definitely shows.

Weaving the stories of multiple main characters who are all unknowingly connected by the mysterious deaths of 2 people. The book explores each character through extensive parts, each with their own chapters, as they peel back the enigmatic onion layers in this subtle, superior, and sophisticated tale and eventually their journeys all converge in order to do battle with the Hollow.

While reading this one was truly refreshing, I did find it a bit drawn out at times, which is absolutely my personal preference, with some of the pieces not quite fitting together as easy as I had liked. Otherwise, a solidly intriguing tale that was as original and unique as could be.

**Review of Hollow by Davide Tarsitano**

Hollow by Davide Tarsitano is a pleasantly spooky, gut-wrenching read that delivers on its paranormal premise without ever straying into mundane explanations. From the very first pages, I was gripped by a sense of unease that built steadily into full-blown anxiety and terror. The suspense is relentless, and Tarsitano masterfully keeps you on edge, ensuring that the fear never dissipates.

What I particularly appreciated was the respect shown to the characters, who are integral to the story without diminishing the horror that surrounds them. Tarsitano honors each character’s role, adding depth and humanity to the narrative without letting it detract from the terrifying circumstances they face.

Another standout aspect is the inclusion of Native American culture, which adds a layer of mystery and intrigue to the story. Tarsitano manages to incorporate these elements thoughtfully and without falling into harmful stereotypes, making it both compelling and respectful.

Overall, *Hollow* is a gripping horror novel that delivers genuine chills while maintaining respect for its characters and cultural elements. If you're a fan of paranormal horror that stays true to its roots, this book is a must-read.

I was so excited to read this book based on the reviews and description, and was so unbelievably disappointed. Maybe a demon with a dream and little talent possessed the author while he was writing it. The writing is just terrible; no plot could make up for it. The dialogue feels like it was written by a 10-year-old. The descriptions of people and places read like someone was a little too thesaurus-happy and chose the most obscure and random words to make things more interesting (but by definition, the chosen words really don't fit well). The story itself was okay, but nothing particularly special or mindblowing. The best/most interesting part was the internal description of the experience of being possessed, which I found unique. Ultimately, I found myself avoiding finishing this book, which isn't good. Wouldn't recommend.

Hollow is a novel that goes far beyond the horror genre. These pages will penetrate you, opening you to existential and profound questions that will accompany you throughout your reading and beyond.
It is Tarsitano's second novel and like the previous one you will not be able to stop reading it. You will become each of the characters that make up this frightening and psychological story, experiencing the fear, anguish and nightmares of each of them. You will be able to see every scene and smell every smell. This is what great writers know how to do, and Tarsitano is becoming more and more so.
At the end of the novel you will close the book, but I am sure that he will still be with you.
Wonderful!

I've read the kindle version in 3 days and now wait for the paperback. The story is thrilling and captures my attention from the first pages. Such a great difference with author's first debut novel, his pen is more mature and absolutely promising in the horror genre scenario. Don’t want to spoiler, but Hollow really delve into the depths of everyone's fears. Can't wait for something new from this talented writer already!

If you’re looking for a book that will give you feeling watched vibes this is the book for you. This book is very spooky like and fast pace, I loved the different POVs and I really enjoyed Jacks perspective I would have like to have more of his POV. But other than that this book kept me engaged all the way through till the end. I am anxious to read the rest of Davides books.

This paranormal horror book follows Peter’s parents’ unexpected and strange death. Peter is pulled into the inexpilicable circumstances and finds himself in the path of an evil entity looking to feed on the negative emotions and energies.

The storyline was superb, the characters are memorable, and the entity is unalike many others! You will be pulled into the mystery and the history alike! This horror even highlights the humanity that still exists!

I highly recommend this book if you like supernatural horrors, mysterious deaths, and stories with exorcisms!
