Another easy to follow book, that was in my collection during my student years at university, very easy to follow format, I was a big fan of the Dummies series.

"No matter who you are or what your background is, you are not a dummy if you're reading this book. You might, however, be a dummy about what Visual Basic is"

And such a dummy I was! This book helped me to realize this wasn't the book I needed after all, but I keep reading anyway because it had some interesting points not related to VB 2005 but programming in general. I would only recommend it if you're totally new to VB, aka when you need more theory than practice, because it doesn't have many practical examples, but it did help me to understand some key points in the .NET Framework and gave some helpful advice!

Since starting a class where I have to make internet pages, I've realized that I know diddly squat about anything beyond the very basics & nothing about the programs such as VB. In fact, the first time I saw the Visual Basic program I almost hyperventilated because it all looked so foreign & crazy.

Thank goodness for the 'Dummies' books! There were lots of nice references in the books for me to use. The only problem is well... sometimes there wasn't a lot of explanation for parts of the code & that's not very helpful if you actually want to understand what you are putting in! If I wanted to just copy down random code, I could've done that from the internet for free!

Still, there's lots of helpful bits & pieces in here, so it did help me overall with the course. I just recommend for any potential buyers that they find a copy to look through first before plunking down the money for it. You may find that other books could be more helpful than this one is!

This book provides a good high level view of VB, and the introductory sections on how to prepare for developing a program are very helpful.

Where it falls down is that it does not have a great deal of information on actually writing code, which is what I was looking for.

That said it's given me far more of an overview than I had picked up elsewhere, so has certainly helped with a foundation level understanding of VB.
